It’s fine……
This hotel is fine. It is not 5 star but it also doesn’t warrant the terrible reviews I have read about it. My husband and I travel to Mexico a few times a year and prefer adult only resorts but this time we traveled with our two 10 year old granddaughters. We got a family suite and very glad we did so we did not have to share a bathroom and the connecting door allowed for some privacy. It was also very quiet in n the room. The hallways of the resort are quite noisy due to design but we had no issues with noise in the room due to our location. Third floor facing the water park. Rooms are clean and they keep them well stocked. AC worked fine, not as cold as we would have liked but others will likely find it fine. Water in shower is very hot but pressure is pretty low. As far as food, no one will go hungry. All restaurants will get the job done. If you are coming here hoping to get a little tipsy, you will be hard pressed to get that at this resort. Drinks are very limited on alcohol. They do have Tecate or Dos XX in the can but you have to ask for it. If you prefer a less sweet margarita, ask for them traditional. They only have Pepsi and not Coke products. We usually travel to the Cancun area between November and the end of April so we were not prepared for the lack of breeze. It both keeps the bugs away and helps to keep you cooler. No such breeze during this time of year so very hot and pool water is very warm. Like very warm bath water, not much of a respite from the hot sun. Adult only pool with swimup bar does offer shade which is nice and Willy at that bar is great. The RIU brand is solid and as long as you go to this resort with realistic expectations you will have a good time. This is not a resort for those that want quiet.

Good not great
This hotel is extremely family oriented. 3 family pools and 2 adult-only pools. The room is quite spacious; we opted for an ocean view upgrade. What we got was right above the theatre which is ok but we also feel right in the club from 11pm to 2am. Note to future travellers, ocean view in room 3104, is noisy. Show costumes are quite provocative especially for young children viewing. But the games and karaoke at the theatre before the shows from 6 to 8:30 are awesome. Sargassum. Mother Nature isn’t the hotels fault. However, the fact that the daily morning tractor scoops it to make it so that the ocean takes it back instead of having it picked up by a truck and removed from the premises is absolutely stupid. The beach is ok. There are beach chairs aplenty and quite close to one another. Wish there were little huts instead of shaved down palm trees to hide from the scorching sun. The water slides on the kids side were alright. Pools are extremely shallow and close to pool edge for the speed children come down at. Also, a few kids were knocked over as you can pass directly in front of the slides. Food is a hit or miss. Was not a fan of the à la cartes. I just never am at resorts and prefer the buffet. The snack bar at lunch is great. Right next to the main pool that holds daily games for the entire family. Rooms are made up daily and sheets are changed upon request. Fridges are also stocked daily but for some reason our fridge was so loud it woke us in a jolt at night. We did tell the front desk and maintenance did come but it still makes a ton of noise. Love that the sports bar offer a variety of snacks, drinks and coffees 24/7. The gift shop, although expensive is really nice. The staff do seem overworked and smiles are hard to come by. But when you were greeted with a smile, it changes everything. - The silent disco is a must (Wednesday night) - The neon and white party alternate on Thursday’s. We were there for the neon party - Day trip to Isla Mujeres: book with Scuba Caribe - the cheaper trip gets you the short bus to the marina, snorkeling, 4 hrs on the island and 30 mins of swimming in clear water. The staff is super sweet and attentive. The lost and found is at reception. We were lucky 1/2. Beach lifeguards do not pay attention to anyone. All in all I don’t agree this to be a 5* hotel. I am glad I came but will opt for a different hotel if and when I come back to Mexico.
