4 Day stay at RIU Caribe
The Wife and I were a bit uneasy after booking a trip to the RIU Caribe in Cancun during these times. But we felt completely at ease upon arrival with all the precautions being taken at the airport, our private transport (USA Transfers) and at the resort. There is hand sanitizer galore in Cancun, huge bottles of the stuff everywhere. The transport driver immediately asked if he could spray and wipe down our luggage before loading it into the van and out response was a resounding “YES, PLEASE DO!” Didn’t expect that level of safety and it saved my Wife from needing to dig out one of the cans of Lysol we brought. At the resort they scan you for your temp prior to checking in, and masks were mandated to an extent. Didn’t need them in or around the pool area. Everywhere else it was asked that you wear one unless actively eating and/or drinking. And I didn’t notice anyone refusing or not wearing one per the rules. The a la carte restaurants were open, but only 1 or 2 per night, buffet open every night. No reservations necessary for any of the restaurants and no waits times. There was a decent crowd there the first two days/nights, but still plenty of personal space to be had and available pool chairs at any given time of the day. Swim up/Pool bar was open, business as usual. Pool closed at 6:30-7. All bars closed at 11PM, minus the sports bar which was 24 hours. There was a show in their theatre type room every night at 9:30 with the sears spaced nicely. The gym was open and I was in there alone both times I went. I know I’m probably missing some info, just getting home and settling in. Any questions, I’ll be more than happy to provide any information I have. Great trip, felt safe...we will be going back to Cancun in approximately 2 months!
Hiccups at first but amazing vacation!
LONG review but honest :) First off the overall experience of this hotel was amazing despite being in the middle of a pandemic. Everything was thoroughly sanitized and the staff were always working to keep everyone safe. Temp checks, sanitizing of shoes and hands and hand sanitizer readily available. Now for the review. When we arrived we were given a room with NO AC. They said they could not change our room due to COVID unless maintenance confirmed it was broken. After confirming it was broken they put us in a basic room (we paid for junior suite). After speaking with the manager she apologized and upgraded us to room 791 which was amazing with the most amazing views and HUGE balcony. The hotel itself was very well kept and very clean! We enjoyed all the restaurants and even the buffets were good. I have stayed at RIU before so it was different as they now plate the food for you due to COVID. The Maria margarita restaurant had some amazing Mexican food for it being a resort. We were celebrating my boyfriends birthday and they even decorated the table and gave us a bottle of champagne to take...also SHOUTOUT TO SILVANO he was the most amazing server!!! Because of COVID the restaurants are not all open every day and the 24 hour bar only had pre made sandwiches that were not good. So if you get hungry after 10pm I suggest grabbing some snacks or a plate to go from the buffet. The activities were fun and loved the drinks! We couldn’t get enough of the Palomas and Garfield shots! We did book our excursions through scuba caribe at the resort and they were a blast. Definitely recommend the VIP trip to isla mujeres. I would like to come back after COVID to see if things liven up as it gets pretty dead after 10pm. For excursions I read that pesos were required but I found that USD were accepted everywhere. We brought pesos and ended up getting better prices than paying with USD. HOWEVER if you don’t know conversion rates you can definitely get ripped off trying to pay in pesos Overall LOVED our stay and would definitely return to RIU Caribe. Side note: had dinner at Lorenzillos seafood restaurant it was amazingggg with the best lobster. If you’re looking for a fancy restaurant with good views and amazing service I definitely suggest leaving the resort and paying them a visit.
I've been at this hotel on March 2020. For me is the third time in Cancun. I've been stay at Riu Cancun (nice), after this at Riu Palace Las Americas ( side by side of Riu Cancun) and for me was one of the best stays I've been in my life and I take vacations two times a year. The third time was Riu Caribe, and for SURE the worst vacation experience in my life. I've tried because it is a RIU hotel, but I do not recomend anyone to go there. The food, the room, and especially the pool bar with mr Israel, no doubt about the worst experience in my life. Every little thing I've asked from the bar, the answer was: "We don't have". So I've decided do not go to Cancun anymore. In my opinion a hotel with a stay U$300 plus, should be far better.
This stay has been a disaster from start to finish! First night here we were put in a room with no AC, when we called they told us they had to try and fix it before they could give us another room! Terrible guest relations!!! Then after hours of men in our room, they move us at almost midnight into a room on lower floor with smaller TV and no king bed, they just pushed 2 beds together. Again, terrible guest relations! Was told before we arrived everything open, only 1-2 restaurants available each night with exact same food every night! Was turned away at pool bar and told they could not serve me and that I had to walk around with mask on to get drinks, then watched young girls in bikinis being served there by same exact bartender! Was called and awakened by staff one night accusing us of climbing onto another balcony, ABSOLUTELY ABSURD!!!!!! Staff didn't even check, just called and woke us up to accuse us! We are 50 years old, I highly doubt we would risk our lives to go onto another balcony!!! Every day our key card stopped working and had to return to lobby and wait for a replacement. I will make sure no one I know ever comes to this poor excuse for a hotel! Very disappointing!!!!!
Great service, very pretty hotel and grounds, pretty good food and drinks! Pool water is hot. Overall they are doing a great job keeping everyone safe during Covid. All employees wear masks and gloves. Buffet foods are all plated by servers. Really really great service from everyone! Adults liked the food but our teens didn’t so much. Beds were hard but our housekeeping staff was absolutely wonderful! Only major Complaint: POOL WATER IS HOT! All pools were hot like my bath water and not refreshing at all! I asked and they said it’s bc they are in the sun all day and they can’t fix it. They absolutely need to invest in a pool cooling system!!! It’s so hot and humid in July that a refreshing, cool pool is essential!!! Also, bed sheets and pillows didn’t have a nice smell.
