    Problems with the reservation

We had a problem with s reservation and they insisted to pay a reservation again. After Two days of arguing, negoations and interventions we paid it even if we paid for it already in the agancy. In the end, agency refund the amount. So, be precausious!!! The hotel is a little bit old-fashioned but still good. Entertainmet is good. The beach is great. It is a little bit crowded around the pool. The food is great.

Great Experience for My Large Group

So let me start by saying I don't write reviews often but when I do, it is because either service was really good or really bad. In this case, it's because service was really good! I had a large group of 15, reserved 5 rooms, and this was our first time staying at a Riu property. I read the mixed reviews prior to booking but took a chance as sometimes people that submit reviews can complaint about self inflicted problems or nip pick at minor details. That being said, we stayed for 4 days and had a great time! The greeting at the front door and with check-in staff was excellent. All of them had a smile and were super friendly. They were able to check-in my entire group with no issues. Prior to everyone taking their rooms, we inspected all rooms. Each of the rooms were super clean and ready for guest. The rooms were a little dated (the one thing in other reviews that seem to be true) but to be honest, how often are you staying in a room on vacation? Nonetheless, the ocean view was amazing and in my opinion, compensated for some of the room feeling a bit dated. Additionally, due to the size of my group, I needed 3 roll-a-way beds and called as soon as we got settled into the rooms. The beds were there within 15 minutes of request. There is a little bit of construction going on, on the property but they have it blocked off nicely, clean around the site, and you can not see any of the work being done due to the barriers they have in place. There is very little noise coming from the work being done and they are super careful not to disturb guest. To be honest, the work was so quiet that I totally forgot work was even being done and the barriers blended in with the landscape of the property. So it was absolutely no issues. The property is well maintained and very clean. It is in a really good location along the hotel chain and the beach front is amazing! This locations have several events through out the week with a stage somewhat in the middle of the resort. This is a great location to meet up, hang out, or check out a show. My favorite event was the silent dance party which is held on Tuesday nights. There are other adult only themed parties but they are held at the Riu Caribe. If you have an opportunity to go, GO!! We went to the Neon Party and the Jungle Day Party. Both were a total vibe!!! It is free for current Riu guest and there is a shuttle bus that takes you to the Caribe. It is only a 10 minute ride and well worth it!! Let's talk about the food for a moment. I have visited many resort and this resort did a really good job with food! The buffet food was really good and most of the restaurants food was great as well. I have to give a big shout out to Ibis and Rosalia who where our servers in the buffet area most of the time of our stay. They took really good care of us and made sure we were comfortable! If Riu management is reading this review, please be sure to give them a raise or a reward because they worked hard to make sure we were happy. We hit the steakhouse one night and it as amazing. There is also a 24 hour Sport Bar with light food. Its a really good spot to hit late at night when all of the restaurants shut down. If there is anything I would complain about or give a downgraded rating on related to food, I would have to say the bar drinks. We hit different bars on the property for mixed cocktails and that is definitely an area they need to improve upon. Some of the drinks had an after taste and I'm confident its because the alcohol is not top shelf or premium. The alcohol is very generic. If you are not a regular drinker, than this will be fine for you. But for those who indulge often, you will notice a difference. Overall, I am happy with our stay at the resort and had a great time! Everyone on the staff we encountered were super friendly and helped to ensure our stay was a good experience. I recommend staying at this resort and would stay at another Riu resort in the future.

    Great Last Minute Cancun Trip

I’ll start by saying we had a fabulous time at this resort. We had a first floor room overlooking a pool and a view of the crystal blue water. First floor was great as far as convenience. We never had to wait for an elevator and we could get from the pool to room quickly and the view was better than expected. We sat at the bar pool each day and walked back and forth to beach when we wanted to swim in the ocean. There were a very limited number of chairs and virtually no shade at the beach. That’s why we opted for the pool chairs. In order to get a pool chair at the bar pool and party pool you had to reserve your chair before 8. I don’t think the other pool was as crowded and you could probably get a chair later. I will say that the staff went out of their way to bring out more chairs to try to make sure everyone was sitting where they wanted. Maggie the bartender, at the swim up bar was the hardest working staff member on the resort. She was amazing and managed the full bar with ease. As far as the food, it was ok. We had very low expectations for food. We were fine with the options but if you are a foodie then you likely won’t enjoy this resort. The worst thing about the restaurants were that they were first come, first served. We got in line for the Japanese restaurant at 6 (when it opened) and by the time we got to the door at 6:30 we were the last time slot for the night at 8:30. We only ate at the Italian restaurant because you could always get in. Our waiter, Fabian was awesome. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and they are always cleaning and making small repairs. The hotel was very clean in all areas. We would certainly return to this resort in the future.

    Overall experience

For an all-inclusive resort, Hotel Riu was awesome. You hear horrors of bad food, bad rooms, etc, but my friends and I actually looked forward to eating from the buffet and every worker we encountered was so nice. I would recommend coming here. My friends and I came for our spring break trip and it was exactly what we needed and the price isn't too bad

    Great Resort!

It is not my first time at a Riu resort as I am a big fan. Really like these resorts. The Riu Cancun is beautiful. Many good size pools, great food, great service. Nice air conditioned lobby with bar and many comfortable seats. The beach is soft white sand and the water was very clean while I was there, no weeds. It was so wonderful.! The rooms are clean and the ocean view with balcony was great to sit in the evening and relax. The entertainment was very good. This resort is a “party resort” so there is a lot of loud music by 2 of the main pools. There was also 1 quiet pool on the far side that was a nice change. As I am in my 50’s I appreciated this pool the most. The resort is great for those in there 20’s and 30’s as there is so much partying here. There is also the “Riu Party” where they have large Parties such as the White party and Neon party etc and this is held at the Riu Caribe property that we have full access to. On the evening of these large parties, they have a free shuttle bus going back and forth to the Riu Caribe every 15 minutes from 7 pm to 11 pm. In conclusion, if you want a party resort with many activities, then this is the resort for you. Great for Bachelor and bachelorette groups. The resort is right in Cancun which is nice to take long walks along the street to shop and go to Starbucks etc. I am a Travel Agent and a Wedding Destination specialist so I always look at the resorts with this prospective. Would I book a Wedding group here? Yes, for small Groups! The beach is beautiful for a Wedding and the Corner bar patio is great for a small private reception.
