Wonderful stay!
This was our first trip to a Riu property! I couldn't have picked a better resort! Once we got the hang of the layout, access to the beach was easy! The beach was absolutely gorgeous, soft white sand and beautiful blue water! The staff was so attentive and we're always cleaning up! The food was so good here! I can say that I felt like there could be better choices of specialty restaurants, as we didnt even go to two of them due to the menus. The steakhouse was sooo good that we went twice! We loved the view from our room on the 12th floor! We had to request extra pillows and a blanket, but it was quick delivery. The one downside to our room was the shower, there is a weird window in the shower and one day I accidentally pointed the water to the window, which caused it to leak into the room. Only made that error once! We took the ferry over to isla mujeres...a must do! We rented a golf cart from. The company called Joaquin. It was affordable for a 6 person cart! We had all day with it! I would absolutely visit Riu Cancun again!

OK if you're looking for a party hotel
Before I went I requested a low room with sea view, got put on 13th floor with no view, which when sitting down you were basically facing a brick wall. I asked reception for a change the night we arrived and they said no room available even though we were booked for 10 nights. Went back to Reception the next morning as I really wasn't happy with the room and was moved to a much better room on floor 8 with sea view. Reception couldn't be bothered moving us first and said it was fully booked. Arranged free transport to and from airport with hotel but had difficulty getting hotel email address and the one the main Riu customer service gave me didn't work. The swim up pool was dirty and they always scraped between the tiles cleaning it when people were in meaning there was lots of bits floating about. Eventually someone got sick in the pool so they had to close it and give it a proper clean which was a God send! Food was good and varied, location is good, beach was nice, bit of sea weed but not too bad, Miguel is the pool bar was the best, so quick and always remembered drinks. A lot of young noisy people in pool particularly at weekends. Overall this hotel is OK if you're not too fussy but it's not a 5 star. Room decor is fine though, there are optics in the room and room service and cleaning were good. Entertainment was average and main bar inside has no music or anything so its a bit dead. I would probably stay again but would not advise the older generation to go as its full of drunk and noisy twentysomethings!

Fabulous hotel, with amazing sea views.
We have sadly just returned home after a week at Riu Cancun. We requested a sea view and were directly facing the sea and quieter pool area. Room was immaculately clean, had 2 double beds and 1 single bed, with more than enough space for 3 adults. Although the decor was slightly dated, the room provided everything needed, including iron and ironing board. On arrival there was an issue with the toilet and safe, however, this was resolved very quickly. There are several, well maintained pools to choose from including one with pool activities and another with swim up bar. We found that the main pools did attract a younger crowd, and were busier because of this There is a large quiter pool, which we preferred and had no problem getting a sunbed. I wasn't looking forward to the food as I generally struggle to find hot food to my taste. The variation and quality of the food at all the restaurants and bars was impressive and will miss my breakfast omelette. All the staff we encountered were friendly, approachable and very good at their job on every level. The only downside was that we chose not to go in the sea due to seaweed, which was beyond the hotel's control There are several reviews stating that the hotel had younger clientele. We found there was a good mix of younger and older and the younger guests were very respectful for the most part. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel and we have ready started planning our 2 week trip for next year.

Cancun is not worth it.
Overpriced, beach was super dirty. the islands on the Caribbean are much better. Cancun is over crowded, it lacks good infrastructure. I wouldn't call it an international destination. it lacks so much, it does look good for a third world city.

Cancun Riu
Our stay was nice. The room could have been a little cleaner. Above the bed was black residue. Maybe mold not sure. Overall , nice stay! The elevator leaked from vent
