Jan 18, 2026Started bad. Ended good.
Floor 5 on the 2nd tower. The worst view, an ocean in the desert stance. Just a roof with cups and water bottles making noise all night in the wind. Outdated bathroom. Dated tv. The next day, paid for an upgrade and then everything was an 180, and picture perfect views. The suite is the only way to go! The staff was amazing, helpful and informative.

I was a little skeptical when I booked this hotel, because it was so inexpensive. Turns out it is a clean, well maintained property. The pools are great! The rooms were nice. The nightly entertainment was really fun too. The food was decent. The staff were so incredibly friendly and accommodating. Riu is now at the top of my list for any future vacation.

First of all our flight was delayed. We landed at 11:30 and we notified the Riu by e-mail about our approximate landing time. When we landed there was no transportation there so we had to take one of the scammers available, to the hotel at a cost of 1900 pesos or $110.00 US. We got ripped off because they were the only one available. At hotel Check-in the Riu accepted no responsibility and passed the buck to the transfer company. The next day when we contacted them and they refused to accommodate us for any restitution. To me the fault lies with the riu as they hired them in the first place. This is how our vacation began. The hotel itself had mediocre food and rooms. You couldn't even get a bagel for breakfast because they are only available at the Riu Palaces (what a joke). The entertainment wasn't even close to that at the Iberostar chain we've stayed at. One last thing: the pools were freezing and too cold to swim in, and the so called hot tub was colder than the pool. Nothing was heated. All in all it was not a very good experience. I had another trip booked at the Riu Palace Riviera Maya for April but immediately cancelled it when I returned home. As far as I'm concerned in the hospitality business if companies want people to return they should look after them and not put the blame on others. I've been travelling for over 50 years and this is my first critique but I found it to be warranted.

Great Family Vacation!
Facilities, services and beverage/food were great! We've been to other inclusives where the buffet was marginal at best. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were all exceptional The wait staff was very attentive and courteous. Our room was cleaned every day, fridge stocked. Bars were all around the property and we never waited more than a couple of minutes for service. Our suite was directly over the pool/stage area, so at times a bit noisy. But noise died around 11, so not a huge deal. The views from the balcony were stunning. Wish we could've made reservations at the restaurants, but getting on a list wasn't bad. Overall - we were really pleased with our choice of Riu Cancun.

Resort is overbooked. Great resort otherwise. Adult only.
Started off bad. We had a reservation for 7 days in a junior room with ocean view but the hotel was overbooked that we were downgraded and we still had to pay the same amount. Not right. So after a long discussion, they downgraded us for 1 night and got us moved the next day and the rest of our 6 nights in the right room. Beautiful resort. Clean. Friendly waiters, bartenders. Maria, the bartender was awesome. The staff is working very hard to keep this place running, the guests satisfied, and to maintain the resort clean. A little outdated tiles in the bathroom otherwise great and functional. Didn't have to worry about mosquitoes. They must spray the resort very well. Close to lots of market and easy to walk around. Bus stop is right in front of the hotel so you can take the bus downtown. Close to the grocery store. Very convenient. This is an adult only resort. Good and bad. Lots of obnoxious drunk guests who can be very loud screaming in the hallways and patios at 2 to 4 o'clock in the morning. Not the resort's fault so not going to give them a bad rating for that.

a. The number of rooms will be deducted from the contracted allotments
