    Nightmare turned into a dream

We were on a cruise when my husband became ill with COVID pneumonia. We were disembarked in Willemstad Curacao where he was hospitalized for 2 nights and not allowed to fly home for another week after that. Our son is a frequent traveller and only stays at Marriott properties, so he helped us secure a reservation at this resort. What began as one of the most frightening experiences of our lives, became one of the most beautiful ones because of the lovely people here. There were: warm, welcoming bartenders, Rai and Angelo; the "jewel" hostesses, Juwella and Zahyra; the amazing smoothie maker, Martina; attentive servers, Williams, Elizabeth, and Jouen; best omelet maker, Isabel; smiling Shaerwindra (Shira) who seemed to be doing a little of everything; my "angel", Dianarra at the front desk who was so kind and helpful at such a scary time. We apologize to everyone whose names we did not make note of, but your kindness and compassion will never be forgotten. Chichi is the Papiamentu word for "big sister", representing the eldest daughter of the family, who binds the family together in a loving and caring way. Everyone here truly represented the spirit of Chichi. In addition to the amazing employees, we had a lovely room, the infinity pool with its sand beach so beautifully relaxing, the location felt very safe, and we could walk to so many interesting locations in Willemstad.

    Simply The Best!

This resort and staff are by far the most friendly and accommodating. We will be heading back to our home away from home on April 19th and would like to highly recommend the Renaissance to adults and children of all ages. Javier Croes, and all our other friends that work at this resort go over and above to always make our time more amazing than the last!

    Great trip with beautiful weather!

We had a wonderful stay at the Renaissance. The staff are all very kind and helpful and made our stay really enjoyable. The seafood buffet at Aquarius was the best! Pool chairs are plentiful but you do have to get down there early if you want an umbrella. Things definitely clear out after lunch, so if you want to wait, go after 1 or so. We stayed on the family side but went to the adults only side for dinner and drinks. The pool on the adults only side is much smaller, but still a lovely space. We will be back for sure!

    Flamingos and Iguanas OH MY!

Our family and friends were on a cruise to Aruba and we had an entire day to spend on the island. I wanted nothing more than to visit flamingo beach. We booked a room at the Renaissance to ensure that we would be able to obtain the day pass to visit, the beach and see the flamingos. It did not disappoint and I am so glad we chose this as our excursion. The flamingos hung out on the family side of the island all day so that was an even better. We got to capture unlimited photos with them. There are iguanas randomly perched on rocks around the island. The hotel had a great pool with a swim up bar that we took advantage of as well. We had lunch on the beach and drinks. Everything is expensive but I didn’t expect anything different. I will say my pina salad was delicious and we just ordered buckets of Coronas bc it was more cost effective. Service by the staff was great. So friendly and helpful.

    The Ultimate review!

My Wife and I decided to take a vacation to Aruba for the first time. Our friends speak highly about the location and especially they promote the relaxed vibe of the island, which is exactly what I was looking for. I’ve been a Marriott member for over 20 years and wanted to stay loyal and book with Marriott. After checking out Trip Advisor, it appeared the Marriott property Ocean Club would be our choice. The pictures can be a bit deceiving. They show a great beach and bungalows on their private island. The beach you see is on the Ocean Beach Family section, which is across the street from the adult section of the resort. It's about a 10-minute walk between locations. If you book the Adult ONLY portion of the resort, you are across the street with a view of the downtown. Of course, you get access to both resorts, but the Adult version has workout facilities and more amenities, if you are looking for a beach and less traffic, pick the FAMILY Ocean Suites. Again, if you want to feel tropical and close to the beach DO NOT book the adult ONLY section. Fortunately, the hotel is a close drive from the airport. It only took 10 minutes to get here, but I thought I was staying on the Adult side, so the cab dropped us off there, but the greeter in front said we were upgraded across the street to the Family Ocean Suites. So now my wife and I are hauling our luggage down the street to the family hotel. I was upset because I didn’t want to stay in a hotel with kids running around. We did that enough as our boys grew up. I thought about how this could be an upgrade. Going from an Adult Only to a Family hotel. At check-in, there are two windows, and they are apart from each other so you do what you think is correct, you stay in the middle waiting for the first available check-in, but that doesn’t work because another guest will come in and just go directly to the check-in window. So when you check in, pick a window and stand directly behind the person at the window. Don’t try to be polite. Because others are not. Also, make sure you get your wristband. Do NOT leave the window until you get your wristband. Plus, look at the screen in the middle of the two check-in windows and snap the QR Code, this will open the hotel’s schedule of activities. As you can guess, the person who checked us in didn’t give us the wristband or advise us of the activities. That became an issue later. When I purchased the trip through Marriott I asked for an upgrade and fortunately, they came through. Our room was like a little apartment with a balcony looking directly over the Ocean. Very quiet and relaxing. The room was amazing. This is NOT All-inclusive. Everything you drink and eat is charged to your room. If you are a Marriott rewards member, you do receive 10% off purchases. This Hotel has only one restaurant Fresco, which is elegant Italian. Fortunately, the location of this hotel is near the downtown market and there are a ton of other restaurants. I would suggest you use Trip Advisor to find the best restaurants nearby. The Iguana Jims looked interesting, but the food was not that great. The 5 ‘O 5-clock atmosphere was cool for a cocktail and normal bar food, but we liked Cuba’s Cookin. That was the best dinner so far. You may need to take a cab to find great restaurants. The great thing about the Marriott property is that as a guest you have free access to their private island with Iguana’s and Flamingos. The boat will pick you up in the Marina. They need to see that each person has a room key and that you have a wristband. This was probably because our check-in person didn’t give us a wristband, so we had to go back to the front desk for the wristband. It was a hassle. The little power boat was packed with people to the Island, it was about a 10-minute boat ride. They give you towels over there. When you get off the boat, exit to your left to the blue structure next to the gift shop to get your towels and water sports stuff, snorkel, floaties, etc. You know those cool-looking bungalows on the Trip Advisor website, this is where they are located. They cost $500 per day. I’m not sure why someone would do that, maybe it is because of the shade, because there are no umbrellas available, You need to find a spot under palm trees for shade. The Beach is very nice and the water is beautiful. You can walk out to the barrier. Also, if you want to work out, bring your gear, they have a complete fitness facility on the Island. There is a family section and an Adult section on the island, which is located to the right of the boat drop-off. Go left to the family section, and go right to the adults. The hotel offers a program called Navigation, which books your excursions. We did the UTV/ATV yesterday. De Palms was the organization we booked it through. This is a big operation with a ton of excursions, so if you book yourself, you may want to work with this company. It was about $280 per couple and 3 ½ hours long. I would highly suggest this because you get to see a part of the Island that looks like walking on Mars, Arikok National Park, which covers 20% of the island. As we near the end of our vacation, my original frustration about the Adult and Family hotel versions of the hotel and the wristband situation has subsided. I hope this review will help some of you.
