Skip this resort! Terrible accommodations, food is no bueno!

Travelled with my wife, 3yo daughter and our friend’s family of five. Eight of us total w/3 separate rooms. I’ll start off with the positives… booked our transportation and the company was Turrisimo. They were on time at arrival at the airport and departure from the resort. There were some nice bartenders and staff members. The beach area is nice and the pool was cleaned well every night. The entertainment crew did a great job keeping the party vibe going. It’s a fairly short drive to the city but about 1hour to STI airport. Now the negatives and things to keep in mind if you’re thinking of booking. We’ve been to all inclusive resorts before but Playabachata is by far one of the most over-rated on these sites. There are no poolside service. The drink selection mediocre. Overall service from staff non-existent. Maybe 2 out of 10 interactions were good. The rest were either paired with attitude or nothing they can help with. ROOMS: although they do appear to maintain the exterior common areas, the rooms were atrocious. Upon arrival, 1of3 rooms did not have power. Although, a simple fix (breakers)… it was inconvenient after a long travel day. Roaches in 2of3 rooms. 1 room had toilet issues. Our last day there was no power for a couple hours and water source was brown (sink/tub) see attached pictures. Housekeeping was difficult to get. Attempted to use the phone to call reception or for service and they don’t answer the phones. FOOD: they have a snack bar area and the main dining area. Both are buffet style. During the 8 days we were at the resort, most days were PACKED and had long lines to eat. It appeared that they provided locals with access to the resort or pool (I’m assuming). The dining area was unbearably hot and they can do a little better on the comfort side. You’re unable to order ‘drinks’ from the bar and limited to beer and wine. If you wanted a drink from the bar, you’d have to bring it in prior or leave the dining area and go to the bar outside. The food selection or quality did not meet standard. There were a couple good dishes… but overall, I was hungrier by the day. We ended up eating dinner outside the resort to get a delicious local meal. OTHER: they have a ‘sister’ property in the same complex which they offer a tour/lunch. A guy named Raul (pretty sure that’s his name)… was being nice and got us to agree to the tour. I agreed with the expectation that it wasn’t a timeshare presentation. Said hi to us every time we passed by their area. Once we did the tour (it’s pretty much a timeshare like presentation)… Raul acted like he never met us. No more ‘hello’ no more ‘fist bumps’… he already got what he needed from us. Such fakeness! We didn’t buy what they were selling (why would we, the quality of our experience was subpar). There’s more… but it would be a novel. Overall, I wouldn’t come back. It wasn’t a good first impression of the Dominican Republic and hope it’s better at the other resorts in the country. It was our first time visiting the DR and will probably be awhile till we visit again due to the experience at Playabachata.

First of all the only wifi available is in the lobby itself. Kids running around. Watered down drinks. Physical metal Keys breaking when you turn the lock into your room. Never going here again. Go somewhere else like Santo Domingo or something

Not Bad For The Money But We Won't Go Back

My husband & I booked 7 nights/8 days. We were so excited for our anniversary trip. Apparently June is part of the "Off season". Tuesday & Wednesday were nice and quiet. We were the only ones in one of the pools both days. Thursday-Saturday locals/employees/families rent rooms and it was packed like Peak Season. They were rude, would cut you in food line, huddle around pool stairs, leave their shoes at the stairs, slam doors etc. Sunday it got quiet again after lunch, but the restaurant ran out of food at lunch time that day. (seemed like everyone was trying to get one last meal before checking out). The grounds and rooms are kept very clean, we enjoyed sitting on the patio listening to the ocean. There was always someone around sweeping or wiping something down, Rooms are outdated, but we didn't book the trip to stay in our room. The a/c did have a hard time keeping up, we had 1 power outage, a/c leaked in our room at 3am and we were told maintenance will come by after 930am. Maria at the beach massage was amazing, highly recommend! Maybe its because it's off season but no shows, entertainment at the pool was the same stuff daily and 3 employees (the pics can be deceiving). If you don't know Spanish you wont understand any of the obnoxiously loud music at pool #1. Off season also means only 2 restaurants open. Food was not great, hardly any seasonings, salt on the table wouldn't come out of the shaker, most of the time the food was warm not hot. For the most part, the staff was very nice and helpful, especially if they saw you leaving a tip. The Amstar shuttle service was very nice and helpful as well. We enjoyed Damajagua Falls, Monkey Land excursions and Jose for the city tour. Don't listen to "guest information" by the lobby (glass building), they will try to sell timeshare of Senator at $25k or more!

    Awful resort and staff

This is by far the worst all inclusive resort I have ever been to and I have been to many throughout the Caribbean. The staff members throughout the different posts were rude and unhelpful. They had constant power outages and wouldn’t move us to a room with power until day three, even though we had an eight month old baby trying to nap in a 30 degree room every day. We were finally given a crib on day two but when we were changing rooms they told my husband they wouldn’t move it. They also wouldn’t allow my husband to use a luggage cart to move it so he had to drag the wood crib without wheels ten minutes on concrete from one part of the resort to another. The staff even laughed at him while he did this so our baby could go to sleep at bedtime. When I addressed customer service about why they did not help him they said that my husband did not show him enough respect. I then spoke to the front desk and the only kind and helpful man I spoke to called housekeeping and they told him that they were going to move the crib, but the porters called housekeeping and said it’s my husbands problem. We tried to be polite and reasonable throughout the initial problems but the staff soon became rude, disrespectful, and vindictive. Paola addressed some of issues and got us moved, but it definitely didn’t make up for the level of mistreatment we suffered throughout our stay.
