    Pool party!!!

We had a blast playing pools games, I would recommend! The staff are so friendly and high energy. We loved Mariposa…total sweetheart. We came here April 4-11, 2024 for a girls trip and it’s great! Recommend this resort for sure! Beer is cold and the sun is hot!

    Fantastic trip

We took a trip with two kids under ten and highly enjoyed or time at Playabachata. The rooms were fine. Dated, but who cares. Outside of sleeping and coming back for a quick change we were pretty much outside the whole time. The beds were comfortable enough, our bathroom was functional and so was the AC and water. I don't care if the finishes are high end or if some of the enamel is worn on the bathtub. If that bothers you that's fair but it didn't faze us at all. In terms of the food I found the amount of places to eat pretty reasonable. The resort is expansive so depending on what side you are on you may not want to go to the main hall. The snack bars are stocked with the standard lunch fare and this kids had no issue. I enjoyed the main buffet, especially at breakfast. The omelettes were very good and the selection of fruit is pretty impressive. I can't say this for certain but I think a lot, if not all ,the bananas are grown on the resort property. They taste so much better than I am used to. Granted, there are at times long lines for fresh made omelettes, pastas, etc but there are usually 3 stations for all of these. The problem is that people all congregate at the first one once you get into the hall. The refreshing of plates and cutlery at peak times are not always prompt but there are hundreds of people passing through every 15-20 minutes. It is what it is. They are trying. Being pleasant and appreciative to your servers and other staff there will take you farther than tipping, but still tip... a la cartes were hard to come by but the food was a tad better than the buffet. I really enjoyed the salmon at the Italian Restaurant. The grounds and the beach are kept in pristine shape. There's a lot of walking to be had as the grounds are expansive but you'll find something new around every bend. The Carribean Street with the Coffee Bar, Ice Cream Parlour and Pizza Shop were a hit with the kids and it makes for some cool pictures even if it is very 'Potemkin Village' by nature. The beach is free of refuse and seaweed. Please be kind and stop flicking cigarette butts, it's really not that hard... The beach isn't a garbage pail. The pools have variety. My kids called them the Crazy Pool and the Calm Pool and they are just that. The main pool can be loud at times but fun. The calm pool is less busy and quiet. The great thing is you can do both. Want to spice it up? Want to chill out? Yes you can. The entertainment was good for what it is. It's mostly choreographed dancing to various songs with themes. Some are just off the main pool area in a traditional theatre setting and some are at the new outdoor amphitheatre. The dancers are very talented and it must be quite hard to dance in those types of climates in full costumes. One word of warning the Michael Jackson show has live fire effects. Personally, I loved it and thought is was really cool but the young kids... not so much. That's more a bad parenting move on our part than the resorts fault so whatever. Big shout out to our Sunwing rep on the way to the resort. He told us that if we were offered a 'free breakfast' not to take it. Why? It's basically a long timeshare session for the neighbouring sister resort called The Senator. They aren't too pushy. Any time we were approached we said some variation of 'we're on our way to X, sorry' and they'd leave us alone. In fact one time I struck up a conversation with one of the guys on our shared love of baseball, the Blue Jays and the history of Dominican baseball players so it's not that awful. So, is Playabachata perfect? Of course not, no resort is. Even high end ones have quirks and troubles but for us ultimately it's always what you make out of it. The price was very reasonable and I'd say the value exceeded the cost and that is a win in my books. Would I go again? Absolutely. PS. The resort does open up on the weekends for locals and it gets a tad more rowdy. I could see how some people can bet off put by that but personally it changed the vibe compared to the slow and sedate weekdays and I found they threw a few more Dominican food options out there to cater to the locals, which is fine by me.

For the price it was okay, The food was great, although I found the staff were extremely rude, 3 times a day 7x days a week and myself and my boyfriend were only served about 1 time. There was so many people, line ups for food, and no cups or cutlery in the eating areas. In addition ABSOLUTELY no seats at the pool or beach unless we woke up around 8am to save them. Rooms were fine, resort was fine.

A great place in south to go and get away

As other travellers mentioned here, this place used to be Rui Merenge before and apparently 6 years ago it changed to another Spanish owner. Same concept, same lovely place, food and people. Everything was great!! Just make sure to fill out your e-ticket for Dominican before arriving since it is a must & if not, you need to do it in their airport (not fun). The wifi is really strong at the coffee shop in the resort.
