The Perfect Costa Rican Getaway - Excellente!
My boyfriend and I stayed at Planet Hollywood Beach Resort for 7 days at the end of January and it was absolutely amazing. We had never done an all-inclusive in Costa Rica, but now we can't wait to go back again! The resort was very clean, the rooms were spacious and up-to-date, the pool and thebeach were breathtaking and the staff was beyond wonderful specially Rene our server. Everyone who works at this resort is so kind and will do anything to ensure you have a nice vacation. Pure Live
The PH was a nice resort with all the amenities. The restaurants were very good and service was excellent! Enjoyed all the varieties of food types, but our favorites were Gusto and the Steak ! The pool was fun Rene had a great service! The Beach was nice and a lot of monkeys on the trees. Had a great excursion booked by Nexus. Spent the day zip lining, hiking to a waterfall and bathing in hotsprings. Highly recommended! Pura Vida
The Management DO NOT CARE!!
The hotels facilities are amazing, the bed is one of the most comfortable I've ever slept on the staff are great but, and it is a BIG BUT, which is if things go wrong as it did during the coronavirus pandemic you want a company to look after you and Plant Hollywood is not that company. They showed their true colours over the past week as nasty, careless, mean spirited, greedy and ruthless toe rags. We got there on Monday 17th and it was wonderful by Monday 23rd it was like being in Westworld. No food, NO WATER let alone beverages. No Management to complain to either. No communication. It was not that they did not have supplies, they locked them all away by the Thursday leaving only what was left out, meaning once it is gone it was gone. Local produced rum, sparkling wine, even regular Pepsi. No fruit or vegetarian options at meals. I paid £3,000 for 1 week stayfor my wife's 40th to "Vacation like a star" but by Saturday we felt like squatters in a homeless shelter where by you get what you are given and you should be grateful for it. Let me br clear they had the water, prosecco, rum etc but they locked it off. They could of asked us what we wanted a kept just that but they did not care. That is how the Management treated customers and they treated their staff much worse. They tore up contracts with no notice, they stopped their pay, promises of 1 month pay was renaged on to just two weeks pay. The country is beautiful, the people are beautiful and the whole world is affected by the current Covid_19 pandemic but there are ways and means of doing things and the Planet Hollywood way is wicked. Because the management were so mean it meant that a lot of staff (not all) ended up just going through the motions and not caring either, which spoiled our holiday. When Coronavirus problem goes come to Costa Rica but think hard about my review and if you want to put your trust in a company like this.
Nice but not great
We booked planet Hollywood last minute as our previous holiday was cancelled due to corona virus,this review has has not been swayed by the pandemic and subsequent closure. we have been to costa rica before and stayed at the secrets resort across the bay. On arrival at ph you are asked to walk the red carpet amidst clapping (embarrassing) then asked if you want to pose for a photo, after an 11 1/2 flight, queing for immigration and a 40 minute transfer we may not be looking or feeling very showbiz so declined, check in was easy enough, rooms are nice and spacious but could do with soft closers on the doors as quite often you can get woken up to the sound of slamming doors, 1st night we went to the buffet restaurant as we were tired, food and service were good, afterwards as we awaited the golf cart shuttle we were talking to a concierge who soon got on to the subject of upgrades, renting cabanas, the ph travel club etc, to be honest we weren't listening as we paid for all inclusive as that's what you should get. Second day at the pool we got the same again from a more persistent member of staff who would offer all sorts if we joined the travel club/ celebrity traveller or whatever they call it. Basically it's a timeshare, a very expensive one. Some of the golf cart shuttle drivers can be erratic and dive like they are F1 drivers, to the point of my wife almost falling out if she hadn't been caught by another person, when we got back to the room we also found out this had caused the screen of her tablet to break, we reported this but no one was really interested. The beach is nice but you have beach sellers to walk through every day although they are not persistent or aggressive, the sand is hot! It's volcanic and black, deal with it, it's not something to whinge about. The sea is very nice and fairly shallow. I think the resort would have been better with more pools as sometimes it's nice to have somewhere quieter to sit where you don't have to listen to the non stop music all day.it would also have been better if the majority of the restaurants and entertainment were nearer the pool as everything is either at the top of the hill or the bottom. We ate at the sports bar one day, the food was not great and the lighting so poor you can barely tell what you are eating. I had to spend one whole day in the room as I think I got food poisoning too after tuna, bass crab legs and squid. As the resort wound down due to the virus the staff did what they could with what restaurants were open, it went down to a smaller buffet and then down to a smaller menu, on the last day there were probably only 30 or so guests left. To sum up, Costa Rica is a lovely country and the people are great, but I would not stay at planet Hollywood again. Next time we return we will go back to secrets.
First Class 5 star resort!
What a fantastic resort! We spent a week and all I can say is "Wow". When we first arrived, we were greeted at the entrance with fresh cool towels, cool refreshing tropical drinks and smiles all around. The facility is immaculate with attention to cleanliness and no detail is too small. There is no shortage of fabulous food. The daily buffet is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You will not go hungry. There are also cuisine specific restaurants. Each building has it's own concierge. The resort is built on a hill, but not to worry. No need to walk up and down the hills unless you want. Electric carts come by every building every 5 minutes. We never waited more than 2 or 3 minutes to go anywhere in the resort. The staff hospitality is outstanding. It seems that everyone enjoys making your stay a memorable one. From outside our room, we would sometimes see the staff shift change. Everyone was friendly to each other and having fun. The saying in Costa Rica is Pura Vida; which roughly translates to life is beautiful. The staff was so polite - please, thank you, you're welcome; in one word - refreshing! Full disclosure, this was our first all inclusive resort. Your mileage may vary. We were told by guests that have frequented other all inclusive resorts, this was by far their favorite. We will book again!
