    Going back!

We are big fans of Meliá resorts. We spent 9 nights in the Reserve and truly had one of the best relaxing vacations in recent years. We were assigned a concierge, Galdino, who was so attentive. He came to say hi to us on the beach. He reached out on What’s app and even helped us find a private driver who took us on a tour of the city. We appreciated the fun activities at the pool, the delicious elevated food, the spa services, and the general aesthetic of the resort. The sea was too lively for our wobbly legs, but the pool culture is fabulous. We are definitely going back!

    Spend your money elsewhere!

Vacation June 4 – 13 2024. Upon arriving in Cancun, I was immediately impressed with the airport transportation arrangement. Our private shuttle to Paradisus was outstanding. The property (Paradisus) was large and seemed overall more of a (4 Star) environment having traveled to actual 5 Star properties elsewhere (Europe, Turkiye etc.). The front desk was understaffed at our time of arrival and after travel an extended check-in wait is the last thing you want. The immediate staff presented a courteous and hospitable front which seems to be where it stops, they put their “faces” out front as our dealings with other staff weren’t as pleasant. Once we arrived at our room, we found small items in disrepair and the room had a musty/stale smell overall. As we settled in and within a few short hours it became apparent that our A/C was not working properly. After several calls to the front desk and even notification to our concierge who was supposed to report the issue, maintenance finally arrived. Upon check of the room temperature, it was 80 Degrees. The maintenance individual checked a few basic items on the unit but then advised that he did not know what was wrong and thereby couldn’t fix it. We then requested another room. Again, after several hours and multiple trips down to the front desk we were advised that a room was ready but the sleeping arrangement would be modified from our double to a single king. This was unacceptable as I refuse to have my child sleep on a couch/couch bed for over a week. Some time later a more appropriate room was offered and the reasoning for the time lapse was that it had to be approved from a manager who was off-site! C’mon! Upon arriving in the second room, the spiral continued. The balcony sliding door was very hard to open/close and the handle from the outside had fallen off so re-entry was impossible. The faucet handle for the shower wasn’t attached so it would fall off when you touched it. The sink faucet fixture wasn’t tightened so the entire assembly moved when you touched it. Just when you thought that was enough, our 2nd day in the room the A/C completely went out at night (for the entire night). Approximately 10 hours without A/C. It was cooler on the balcony at night than in the room. In Cancun, in June…..This is highly unacceptable! After repeating the various complaint processes throughout the night as before with the previous rooms A/C we got absolutely nowhere without any relief. The next morning an older maintenance man arrived after so many complaints that I cannot count, and immediately the A/C was restored. A fix as simple as the branch breaker from outside the room needed to be restored after a recent power outage. I mean, this is 5 Star? Wow. In our daily partaking of the “all inclusive” dining experience we and everyone else we spoke with agreed that the portions were extremely inadequate, more like snack size vs. meal size. If you find yourself at the buffet just to quell your hunger be prepared to eat virtually the same thing everyday. While the outside areas are somewhat relaxing, there are poolside activities that are extremely loud which may disturb your peace of mind and or a nap per se if you so inclined to do so during the afternoon. The main pool is drab and has maintenance issues, I cut my calf on the exposed tile as many of the areas are sharp. The secondary pool near the adult area is where it’s at. A much nicer pool with a far better environment. The staff are pleasant yet infrequent having to retrieve our drinks ourselves several times. If you smoke…..there are only 2 public areas for the entire facility which are designated. One by the front entrance and one at the secondary pool mentioned above. If you have the opportunity to utilize room service, your food will arrive cold – luke warm at best. Aside from everything, our greatest disdain was the constant attempts by staff to upsell you and offer excursions. We were literally followed throughout the entire facility by one individual and it didn’t matter where, in the pool, while smoking, walking too and from, this man tried to get us to buy into Melia properties. From what I saw, no thank you. Our day excursion to Chichen Itza was a nice break, even though I feel like tourists are taken advantage of financially. In some respects you feel “stolen from” by the very people you hired to provide your excursion. Playing on fears about insect spray, hats, umbrellas……literally trying to sell you everything for inflated prices and always asking for tips in the process. Our guides spoke way too much, to the point where that was the most annoying aspect. I mention the excursion because of the travel arrangements, our bus was late so the hotel staff urgently contacted the company for us and made sure pick-up was enroute. However, while we were picked up at the front main lobby door, upon return at the end of the day we were dropped in the street. Really! Of all the events that transpired, one left me infuriated and I’m retired so pretty much laid back for the most part. My 11 year old son wanted to go to the “Escape Rooms” and I was happy to go because as a family resort there’s very little for children to do other than swim at the pools because the beach is covered in sea-weed and the waves/current are too strong to enjoy without being knocked down or sucked out. After paying $80 (US) to enter the event, 9 rooms in 1 hour, we began. We achieved the clues for the 1st room quickly and moved to the 2nd. In a matter of minutes we figured out the combination needed for the lock to exit the room. I tried the combination many times, my son tried several times himself, but the lock to exit the room would not operate. After 20+ minutes of trying to apply the combo and being yelled at over a handheld radio the attendant entered the room. He tried the same combination we had tried several times (the correct one) and could not get the lock to function. After repeated attempts he entered the combo and slammed the lock at which point it opened. He advised it was jammed and needed force! He then asked if we’d like to continue with only 20’ish minutes left to go thru 6 rooms, I almost died! So you’re telling me that after forcefully clearing a lock malfunction made for a children’s excursion you’re advising me I have 20+/- min left and asking me if I’d like to continue? To sum it up, after demanding a refund at the front desk, after being yelled at by staff at the guest services desk by a child who shouldn’t be in front line customer service we left the next day and after the 3-4 vacations we take globally each year, we were glad to head home without a refund ($80), never to return again. The highlight of the entire vacation was the city of Valladolid that we stopped at during our excursion. The shops were great, the jewelry very nice, and the churros amazing and the people very hospitable. I will never stay at another Melia property again, ever!

Sorely disappointed, unhelpful staff/not safe infrastructure

I'm sorely disappointed with this resort. Firstly, when we got there, our check in process took about 2 hours in total - as they had me in a different pyramid than the rest of my family so we were pushed into upgrading our rooms into ocean view rooms. The first room on an upper floor they gave us was not ready, so we went back to the front desk to have them switch to a different room. We had to re-check in and go through this whole process again for another room. When my family came, it was the same deal - we had to upgrade them as well and it took about an hour for all of this configuration. On the third day - the front desk was incessantly calling all of my family claiming that I need to urgently report to the front desk for something extremely pressing (refusing to tell us what it was for). I ran from the pool to the front desk, only for them to not only know what I was talking about. I waited about 45 minutes for them to locate the person who called. They tried gaslighting me to tell me they would never demand something like that or have the authorization to call my family. They found him, I ran over, the pressing matter was that my signature on a small receipt slightly varied from my passport. I asked why this couldn't wait, he had no answer. He claimed he was trying to contact me the entire trip, this can't be true - I was at the pool for about an hour and I was working from the room the entire trip. This is the story that takes the cake - we're there for almost a week at this point. I noticed the balcony wall was damaged but didn't think anything of it, since you know, they already allowed us to stay the entire week. I took off work for the last day of our vacation, and of course I spent it CRYING at the front desk: They called and said we must move rooms because of the wall, but guess what - there are no more ocean view rooms so they need to downgrade us claiming there are absolutely no other rooms in the ENTIRE resort. They offered us a refund for one day of the upgrade. We paid for the upgrade for the entire stay, so they're only refunding us for the day we're not in our ocean view room. Then they switched it up to refunding us for two days. We kept telling them we only have one day left, we bought a cabana for this day, you didn't care that we stayed all week. They forced us to move, they brought security over to man the door while my husband spoke to the front desk. They claimed there was absolutely no other rooms at all available in any pyramid other than the one they're offering us. They got "approval" from their manager to give us a refund for the upgrade for the entire stay and we agreed to move rooms. This took about 3 hours. After being forced to move, the room they moved us to did not have a working AC and the room was NOT cleaned (add insult to injury)!!! There was toothpaste in the sink, pubic hair in the shower and a moldy smell in the room. I went back downstairs to an extremely unhelpful lady at the front desk and they were, once again, trying to gaslight me. Half the day was over at this point, I missed the opportunity to hang out with my family along with the cabana we paid for. I started crying and I showed her the photos of said pubic hair, etc. and she told me to sit tight and wait for the cleaning staff. They can "clean" it all they want but they're not going to get rid of the moldy smell in a day, I kept pushing for any other room. After waiting for 45 minutes, no person came. I went to check back in. They went back to figure things out, another 45 minutes later, they miraculously found an alternative room with two twin beds. We were so exhausted at this point, we're 5 hours deep at this point, the entire last day is ruined. We took whatever room and asked for the cabana reservation to be moved to next morning since we weren't able to use it at all. They said "we made a special exception for you to get a refund of your upgrade so we can't do anymore." Great. Fantastic. Thanks so much guys for a really wonderful vacation.

    Happy in Paradise/Paradisus

The staff, food and resort accommodations were stellar. Pasquale, Henry, Martini, Jose-- as servers were top-notch. My family and I have stayed at Paradisus /Cancun 16 times in the last 10 years and it truly has never disappointed us. The staff helped us joyfully celebrate my twin grandson High School graduation. Love, just love Paradisus/Cancun. My family and I are already booked for a return visit in 12/25.
