Very disappointing.
Not at all what we expected. Might be OK for families with lots of kids. Pool crowded. One hot tub non-functional, other full with kids. Mediocre food. Poor customer service. Long wait to check in. Told we didn't need reservations for dinner when we asked at the restaurant after we checked in. But when we arrived for dinner, we were told they didn't have a table because we hadn't made a reservation ... ended us seating us at a bar table. "Resort view" room was of a concrete wall. Tried to cancel later reservation later in week due to poor experience, also had to return home early due to weather on east coast. Initially told no problem, but had to be approved by guest services manager. Received email from Octavia Williams, guest service manager, who said reservation was under a non-refundable cancellation policy, "In order to consider a waiver of the cancellation policy, we would require documentation of an emergency, such as a doctor’s note or proof of a flight cancellation" Then she did not respond to 3 emails, the last inquiring whether having to return early due to inclement weather and likely closed airport on the day of our scheduled return could be considered an emergency. My initial stay reservation was through a 3rd party with a 24 hr cancellation policy. This one was directly through Outrigger, and I must have missed this stipulation. So while I could see them refusing to permit a cancellation, it was simply rude and very poor customer service not to reply to emails. I will never book at another Outrigger. Other lodge/resort experiences on the big island were excellent.

A great stay at the Outrigger Kona
We recently stayed at the Outrigger Kona and truly enjoyed our stay. It is a wonderful hotel that is currently going through a transition. A new Duke’s Kona is rumored to be opening in the near future. We were upgraded to a suite above the construction area and loved the room, since we are at the pool during the day it did not impact our stay. Thanks to Meredith for her hospitality. The staff at the Outrigger is wonderful. We decided to splurge and book the club level rooms and were not disappointed. Their staff was amazing and Tessa, Maria, and crew should be commended for a job well done. It is definitely worth the upgrade! Even our housekeeper Letty introduced herself during our stay. I would highly recommend the Outrigger for a 4 star hotel with wonderful staff!

Outstanding Resort on Big Island of Hawai’i
The hotel was beautiful and wonderfully situated on a point adjacent to Keauhou Bay just sout of Kona. Gorgeous ocean view from our room. Room was spacious and clean with tasteful art. Pool area was gorgeous! Every staff member was so friendly and happy to accommodate every request. The food in the Restaurants was delicious! Shout out to Chefs Ash & Mark and cooks David & Don for the poached mahi mahi with the king trumpet mushroom/lime cream sauce! It was one of the best high-end dinners I’ve had in quite a while. I hope to stay at this Outrigger again!
