Disappointing Resort- Be aware of details
The hotel is not as picturesque as their website would lead you to believe. We had a party of 12 adults with six rooms in the privileged area. We were surprised to find the “upgraded” area was at the very back of the property with only views of other buildings. If you are expecting pool or ocean. Wow be very clear with your choices. Junior Suite Privilege rooms are in the back. The privilege lounge, beach and pool are in furthest location across the complex (which is very far). We were supposed to have a butler to help us with various things- 5/6 of our rooms never met, spoke to or received any help when requested from the butler, Juan.. The only thing that privilege is good for is the upgraded liquor package. We all wish we would have been aware of this and not paid the extra for basically very far and disappointing rooms. Also, what they call a junior suite is just a standard double. We showed the staff pics on the internet we were expecting and they all laughed and said- that doesn’t even look like our hotel. The beach was beautiful, the party pool was a blast, the privilege pool had plenty of seating and was relaxing. Kendal, whom taught the dance pool classes, was the best part of the resort- he was amazing! Staff were friendly but service was very, very slow. I do not think I can recommend this resort as there are lots of better all-inclusive in the area.

Beautiful place
We visited here for 2 weeks from the 30th of March. The place was beautiful. Everything and everywhere was spotlessly clean. Lovely food . Lovely rooms and amazing staff. All the bar guys were amazing and friendly in all of the bars. Sports bar was great and has amazing chicken wings. We had a fair few of these. We spent all of our days chilling by the pool, apart from the time out to do aqua aerobics classes with Kendall. He is amazing at his job and somehow manages to remember everyone by name. Amazing. Lots of wildlife around the hotel ground which I loved too. Wouldn’t hesitate to come back one day.

If you like long reviews, get comfortable…
We really enjoyed our week long holiday and overall quite happy with the hotel. We’ve given it an 4/5 on Trip Advisor, but 3.5/5 would be more accurate after taking all the details into account. Ocean Maya is beautifully presented and well maintained. Staff are always busy cleaning the grounds or sweeping the seaweed off the beach. The hotel grounds also has lots of lovely photo opportunities. ROOM: We were taken to our room on arrival on a golf cart. We were very impressed with the size and cleanliness of the room, as well as a large bathroom and outdoor terrace. Our mini fridge was stocked with cans of beer, Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, a local orangeade and bottles of water. Soft drinks were replaced daily as part of the all inclusive. The air conditioning was unfortunately leaking on arrival, however this was swiftly fixed within the hour. I would prefer the air conditioning to be a bit cooler as the room still got very warm overnight. FOOD: The hotel offers a great selection of a la carte restaurants as part of the all inclusive. We found these to be significantly better than the buffet (both lunch and dinner). Buffet: The breakfast was good, but not outstanding. There was plenty of options available including fresh breads, local Mexican dishes, an egg station, American style pancakes/waffles, fruits, yoghurts, pastries, breakfast cereals and an ‘English’ station. Although dinner had a theme each night, I wouldn’t say that was apparent. The buffet selection was pretty much the same every night, with a couple of ‘special’ dishes. We used the other hotel restaurants 5 nights out of 7. Dessert was the biggest disappointment unfortunately. Although there was quite a selection, we found them mostly quite bland and nearly all were made with long life cream which made them all taste very synthetic and artificial. I would also note the temperature of the buffet needs improvement. The cold selection was room temperature and the hot selection was often just warm. Unfortunately, we found the service at the buffet to be incredibly slow. We would wait a very long time before being offered water and even longer for anything else. We often found it easier to bring in a drink from the lobby bar or Mike’s. It was difficult to catch the attention of any staff members to request water as they often walked past the table without making eye contact, or several staff members would be standing around not doing anything. Mexican Restaurant: The best one! We had lunch here every day and 2 evening meals. Everything was cooked fresh to order and full of flavour. We ended up trying everything and it was all delicious and felt authentic. The desserts were also impressive here and we really enjoyed them. Teppanyaki: Fantastic experience! You need to book this restaurant in the evening of the day you wish to visit. We were treated to several courses and a Teppanyaki show. The atmosphere of this restaurant was great and felt like a proper night out. We visited again another night to use the ‘sushi bar’ side of the restaurant. The sushi was overall enjoyable and a nice change from the other restaurants, but service again was very slow which becomes tedious night after night. Blue Moon: International restaurant with a French bias. We really enjoyed our meal here. The service was prompt and the decor felt classy. All our courses were very enjoyable. A particular highlight was the fillet steak. The waiter asked how I wanted it cooked and it was done perfectly for me. Mike’s Coffee: A great addition to the hotel. Mike’s serves espresso based coffee drinks, including latte, cappuccino and flat white, as well as iced coffees. Pastries, doughnuts and muffins are self service, and were all generally pretty good (especially when you catch the doughnuts fresh when they’re soft and at their best!). The quality of the coffee and the method of making varied depending who was serving. Generally you’ll get a decent enough cup of coffee but nothing spectacular, particularly if you’re into speciality coffee or a home barista. Bars/Ice Cream: Good selection of cocktails as well as Pepsi, Diet Pepsi and 7UP on tap. The ice cream shop by the pool was ideal! Good selection of flavours to have in a waffle cone or tub. Tip: Get an espresso from Mike’s and make an Affogato! POOL & BEACH: The hotel has a quiet pool and a ‘party pool’. Both were very clean. Towels are provided. We mostly used the quiet pool, but the foam party was a lot of fun and the entertainment team clearly work very hard to make sure everyone’s having fun. The beach is golden and soft, plenty of sun loungers and games on the beach to play with. Yes, there is seaweed. But the signs at the hotel explain it is natural and an important part of the marine eco system. Plus the hotel were trying their best to keep it minimal for guests. GYM/SPA: The gym is small, but very well equipped for its size. It has a large selection of dumbbells, smith machine, multi-gym and pull up bar, air bike and 2 treadmills. The hotel also has a 1km long road from the entrance to the main road which was great for an early morning run (if you’re into that!). The spa was eye wateringly expensive so we didn’t use the massage services. However, we used the hot and cold jacuzzis on two occasions which are included with all inclusive. RESORT ACTIVITIES: We enjoyed the 9am Yoga class on two mornings. The same instructor led us through an 8am ice bath on the beach on another day. It was just my husband and I for our first Yoga class and ice bath, so we were really fortunate to enjoy this to ourselves. TRAVEL TIPS: 1. Pay in Mexican Pesos. Everything is cheaper than US dollars. Paying on card adds 10% extra but still works out cheaper. 2. Pack water shoes and a snorkel, then walk down the beach to the left for about 15 minutes and enjoy a crystal clear lagoon full of fish. Completely free. 3. We booked a taxi to Playa del Carmen with the hotel. It worked out about £40 return. Again, pay in Mexican Pesos. We went to CrossFit Fibonaccci (highly recommend if you enjoy CrossFit or functional fitness), followed by a swim in the sea and lunch at a local restaurant. We had a really enjoyable holiday and Ocean Maya was a great resort. The only real disappointment was the lack of variety and temperature control at the buffet, as well as inconsistencies with service from the wait staff.

Another lovely holiday
Recently returned from yet another lovely holiday at OMR. This hotel is our favourite place to go to in Mexico, we have visited numerous times and it doesn't disappoint. We were allocated a lovely room, which happened to be next door to where we stayed last year. It was kept immaculate by our lovely housekeeper. The grounds are beautiful and the gardeners work constantly to Keep them that way. Every member of staff smiles and acknowledges you. We enjoy all the food offered but had a little issue this year of not being able to get into the speciality restaurants without having to wait over an hour. However, one day Kiri came round the loungers asking if people had any problems. She was amazing. Within a very short time she was back telling me that she had spoken with a manager and that I had a table booked for that evening. Amazing service! Kiri then came to find me every day to check if we were happy and to ask if we needed anything. What a valuable member of staff she must be. The only negative we had was regarding the use of the Beach Massage hut. It was bad last year, but much worse this time. They sleep on the treatment tables. They keep all their merchandise underneath the bed covers and eat in there. It's clearly their preferred meeting spot. That said it did not spoil the holiday, we had a wonderful time, and I am pretty sure we will be booking for 2026 shortly.
