    A Friendly “Bienvenidos a México”

My tenth visit to OCT with various configurations of family. This time with husband, sister, brother-in-law, and two young-adult grandsons. The boys played beach volleyball everyday (thank you anime team), water polo, they used the gym, had a lot of ice cream (Mary is awesome), smoothies, and frappes, and went to all the nightly shows. They especially liked the fire show, which really is impressive. The rest of us spent most of our time in or at the activity pool, meeting the boys for every meal. Kudos to Ivan at the buffet who helped arrange an Uber into Puerto Morelos. A special shout out to Antonio, also at the breakfast buffet. With an upset stomach, I was in search of a fresh banana, and when none was available, he returned with, “an orphan banana, madam.” The beach was the clearest in years, the little bit of sargassum raked daily, and the water was welcomely cool in the scorching heat. Mike’s coffee was our meetup place, not only because of the brilliant a/c and frappes, but Rocio and her coworkers are gems behind the counter. Elena in customer service, and her team at the desk (Tania, Alejandro, Jared), patiently adjusted my initial request, to accommodate a change in our group. Husband made an atv/zipline/cenote excursion reservation through the on-site Dive-It Mexico team…. very convenient and efficient. Because the guys didn’t take money or credit card on the excursion, they weren’t able to purchase the photo package at the end, and the price quoted after the fact was higher. No pics of an activity they all enjoyed immensely. Because of low occupancy, at least one restaurant was closed each day, with Villa Marina closed everyday for renovations. Our only disappointment was on our last night, we were told we needed a reservation for a restaurant that clearly specified “no reservation needed” on the H10 app. Although there were only a few people seated, we were turned away. Thankfully, the lovely woman (Beatrice??) at Ritratto D’Italia (one marked “reservations needed”), took pity and seated us. The food was delicious and Eduardo attentive. A bit of an irritation was with TraficTours, the company contracted by H10 as an airport shuttle. The driver failed to drop us at OCT, instead taking us to OMR along with other passengers in the van, adding an extra hour to our trip. It was surely an honest mistake, they shuttle so many travelers everyday, and in no way a reflection on the resort. Despite the heat, I don’t think we met a single rude, surly, or unhelpful employee anywhere. OCT truly has a most remarkable staff! The food is tasty and plentiful, the drinks ice cold, the evening entertainment lively, and the beds comfortable. Not fancy, not fussy, Ocean Coral and Turquesa is our favorite of the many resorts we’ve visited during 25 years of travel to Quintana Roo.

    Great family vacation

Booked this property for a fiance birthday getaway/family vacation. I’ll start from the beginning… I tried calling the property NUMEROUS times about inquiring to decorate our room for my fiancé’s birthday, which was going to be on the morning we would arrive at the hotel. Called the main number numerous times as well as other international numbers to no avail, even ran up my phone bill a bit during the process but you live and learn. This would be the reason for 4 stars. Upon reaching the property (we were privilege and staying in the royal master suite) we were greeted warmly at the privilege counter with no issues. We made dinner reservations for the short stay in one shot. While our rooms were being prepared, our butler Abraham showed us to the privilege lounge where we were able to get some appetizers and lunch. After eating we made our way back to the check in and got our room bands programmed. Room was nice however some small points to make. Couch was a bit smelly, probably from the constant humidity. Fold out bed mattress was torn up, Outdoor deck was ok, but I could definitely see a lot mosquitoes flying around at night, maybe because of the in room lighting, either way, you are in the Caribbean so it is to be expected. All the pools were nice and warm. I can definitely confirm that the beach at this property was not blue at all. However, I saw minimal seaweed if any. They did a great job of cleaning it however I think during this time period, seaweed season was not in effect. You might see a few of raccoon looking animals as well as cats on the property .We ate at the sensai and Mexican restaurants and both were great, ask for the extra spicy habanero sauce at the Mexican restaurant, if you’re in to pepper like myself. I planned a day trip to Isla Mujeres as a sort of way to offset the lack of a great beach scenery on the property. Property is a bit outdated in my opinion, and was confirmed during our time share presentation (totally optional). All of the staff including waiters/servers were very warm and welcoming and could not have been nicer. Overall, a nice property to stay at. If you’re looking for blue waters, this property is not it. It is, however a nice small property to stay at.
