Not the best
The good, the bad and the ugly for my 7 night stay at this resort. Let's start with the good: the food, pool, entertainment, albeit to much male twerking, and the resort grounds. The Japanese resturant was good - shout out to chef Teo; but be prepared to chew a bit at the steak house. The buffet for breakfast was also good. The bad: the constant selling of excursion at the poolside and at the beach. The beach is public so you have locals trying to sell excursion working on commission - I feel sorry for these people there is differently an underlying caste ststem. The beach can be unsightly with hugh sand bars to alleviate erosion. Other bad include some of the staff & sale presentation. The ugly: Arrived a day late due to my flight cancellation that was out of my control. Couldnt get reimbursed for losing a whole day/night because the room was being held according to my travel agent. The next day arrived at 8pm to check in after a 6 hour flight delay. Waited at the reception for over a hour with my hotel confirmation number for a room which was supposedly being held. Finally a room was found in building 3 but needed to be cleaned. Tired and traveling with the wife and 2 kids not knowing better we just needed a room. What a nightmare, the toilet couldn't flush and over ran, the room smelled moldy and everything was outdated. Avoid this building at all cost. To get a better room the next day we had to upgrade to their privilage room at $900 for 4 people. Privilage offers some benefits, most I didnt use, but there were similar rooms that didnt required the privilage upgrade. There are some more ugly like poor customer service but I'll keep my rewiew short. By day 6, I was ready to leave. In conclusion, will I return to this resort? The answer is a big No. Will I visit punta cana again, not sure -I felt more stress leaving this place.
We will return someday...
We stayed at OBS Feb/Mar 2020. I traveled there with my spouse and our 3 children. We all had a great time! My 8 year old son keeps begging me to go back. I hear it at least a couple times a day months later. The grounds were lovely and well kept. The food was delicious. Our favorite was the steak restaurant. Mike's (coffee shop) was our go to place at least twice a day. The frozen cappuccinos were amazing! The wifi always worked perfectly everywhere on the resort. Made it easy for our older son to do his homework...hehe. There was always something going on. The entertainment staff was incredible! The foam party was so much fun. The foam does get super deep so keep your kids close to you. We stayed in building 10 Privilege. As a privilege guest we had many extras. The only ones we took advantage of was breakfast at Villa Marina, the lobster dinner, dinner reservations and late check out. The lobster dinner was amazing! Our butler Jose made sure we had everything we needed and made our restaurant reservations for us. He even helped us facilitate our late check out on his day off. As a family of 5, the upgrade was a bit pricey (for us). I might try a regular room next time (if the kids come along) but will definitely miss a seated breakfast for sure. Saying this I still recommend the privilege upgrade. If you stay privilege I highly recommend the steak for breakfast at Villa Marina. Should I return with just my spouse only...priv all the way! Thank you OBS for the awesome treasured family memories we now have ❤
Our 20th Stay at our home away from home Ocean Blue & Sand
Arrived at OBS on March 4th for our 16 day vacation. Thanks to Axia Arun and Marisa Rosa our check in was very welcoming and smooth, Argenis was super helpful in getting us our drinks, facecloths and making us feel right at home. The Butler team of Wells, Cesar, Jose and others were super helpful in making our vacation terrific as usual. Our room 10304 was perfect and full of treats for our arrival, Wine, Champagne, & Fruit Basket. We have always been treated like Royalty here and this time was even better. All the staff from the Bartenders, Maids, Chefs, Restaurant Servers, Cleaners and the awesome Entertainment Team led by Minny & Chocolate Are so very helpful in every way to help you enjoy your stay to the fullest. We always thought the food was great but this year we thought it was even better had room service numerous times and it was all great. Mikes Coffee is another reason why we love OBS the staff and menu are top notch and we like the ice cream place to. In closing we would just like to say our 20th visit to OBS was different for sure with the Corona Virus issue, When we left on March 20th it was a pretty quiet and sad resort because of what was happening world wide but right until the end the staff that was left were still smiling and taking care of all the remaining guest. As we post this almost a month later things still not good but we look forward to our next visit to Ocean Blue & Sand thanks again for everything Marisa & Staff hope to see you all soon take care and stay safe our Dominican Family Joanne & Freddy Doiron, Prince Edward Island Canada
What a excellent place to stay
I just got back on March 14, 2020 and I would love to thank Bonnie Young for her facebook page recommending this resort. The price was great, the accommodations were wonderful and the staff here "Amazing" Our group had the best time. We had pool view rooms in building 5 (Room 216) and could see the beach from the balcony. Food was decent, as I am a foodie. Everyone can find something to eat at the main buffet. I like the beach buffet for lunch, that was my favorite. Drinks were plentiful and our pool waitress, Christina was the best ever. She was super friendly, attentive and always with the quick joke. She made our trip so incredible. The entertainment staff was on point also. So many comments about Pokemon, Chocolate and Mickey Mouse from other guests. Well, ALL TRUE. These guys were amazing. They kept us laughing all week. Such fine people to have on staff to make this trip so memorable. We miss you OBS, and you are in our hearts with the recent turn of events here in the world. Please stay safe and healthy and we will be back again sometime in the future. You are too great a people not to come back to the Dominican Republic.
Each time I go back, the experience gets better
I went in March to the Ocean Blue with my Girl friend for my 3rd time, Her 1st. Each time I've been there the experience has gotten better and my partner she was totally blown away by everything the resort had to offer. From the service we were given from the moment we arrived till when we sadly had to leave as our vacay was over. The food was absolutely fantastic. Let me say in the 3 times I've been there I have not partaken to eating in any of the al la carte restraunts and both my partner and I are both huge foodies and both love seafood to which there was no end of. Also I must note my beautiful girl friend has gluten dairy and corn allergies and never had an end of choices that she was able to eat without worry. As we spent most of our time at or around the swim up bar at the pool closet to the beach we found the servers Ymbukou, Ben, Elizabeth, Christina, Derby and the others to be a never ending source of both amusement and entertainment. These servers and the rest throughout the resort are the ones that make this place so remarkable and fun to go to. Then there's the Blue team the entertainers. What can I say about this energetic group that goes on and on to make sure your time at this resort is beyond fun. From Chocolate, Pokemon, Micky Mouse Cherry and Marocka this group work so hard to make your stay memorable. They are out at 9 AM enteraining and running events from water arobics , kids games, volleyball on the beach to games and fun pool parties then in the evenings they perfom at the theater everynite and then off to the lobby bar to keep things going, when that closes they head over to the disco to wind up their day. The energizer battery company should hire this crew as there advertising people. And to close out the unsung heros to this resort are the housekeepers gardeners and security. The housekeepers somehow manage to keep the rooms in tip top cleanliness despite all the sand people track into there rooms. The gardeners keep the resort looking amazingly clean and manicured and you hardly ever see them doing it, it's like they're invisible. same as the invisible security guards that are everywhere but keep out of sight but if needed they are there. Having struck up friendship with several staffers and through talking with them, everyone of them said to me they all loved working in this resort. When I asked why they like it so much there (and this is a tribute to the management of this great resort) they all said that the management treated them all like family. WELL DONE OCEAN BLUE MANAGEMENT TEAM
