Staff and management were excellent
Location & Beach: Great location. The beach itself is beautiful, but swimming is only allowed in flagged areas — likely for safety and liability reasons — which limited how much of the water we could actually enjoy. Proximity & Property: About two miles from Cancún’s nightlife, so it’s a short drive if you want to explore. The resort is all-inclusive and well maintained, with nice grounds and facilities. Rooms: The rooms are comfortable and nicely decorated. However, we did have to move twice — one room flooded during a rainstorm, and another had no hot water. The TV in our final room didn’t work, though that wasn’t a big deal since we weren’t there to watch TV. Food: Buffet food was hit or miss — nothing amazing, but plenty of variety. The à la carte restaurants were better, with some dishes easily rating between 6–8 out of 10 depending on the course. Staff: Outstanding service all around. Every staff member we interacted with was professional, helpful, and genuinely kind. They were truly the best part of our stay. Entertainment: There was live music at the bar, which was pleasant and enjoyable. The evening shows included “Three Tenors,” two karaoke nights, a magician, and a Michael Jackson tribute. The tenors were entertaining; the rest, not really my thing. The MJ tribute was especially weak — a few good dancers, but the impersonator and makeup were pretty rough. Sales Pitch: I was asked to attend a sales presentation, which I didn’t appreciate. Being pressured to sit through a pitch isn’t relaxing — “no” should mean no when you’re on vacation. Excursions: The concierge arranged tours to Tulum and Chichén Itzá, both of which were excellent and highly recommended. Beautiful view, hotel needs updates
Great location, beautiful view. However hotel is older and in much needed update. Also the food could be better. Other than that staff was pleasant and accommodating.

Just ok
Let me start by saying the hotel is very nice and clean. Beautiful views. Rooms very clean, just very outdated. Could use some sprucing up. The food was very good, unfortunately, very little choices as the buffet is very small compared to most all inclusive hotels. Food was always served cold, the only way to get hot food was at the grill and only 1 person working the station and lineups too long to wait. Mexican al a carte very good. I highly recommend. The downside for me was the service. Check in very long process. I ordered a cake and was charged 70.00 US(98.00 Cdn) for a 10 slice cake. I was given an option of vanilla, chocolate or van/choc mix. I chose mix and received vanilla. I wrote 3 names to be put on the cake. Cake was plain(no writing at all) @98.00 I expected the cake to be correct. The service at the Infinity bar was perfect. The 2 bartenders were the best in my opinion. The lobby bar not so much. Would stand for very long time while all Spanish speaking customers were served before me. Even the customers arriving at the bar after me were serve 1st. Table service was very random. Not everyday. But, what gives this a 3 star rating, is the last day. The buffet was closed. No notice to customers that it was closed. I was told by a staff member it was for a wedding. Note, the wedding reception was not held in the buffet. So why did they not hire staff for dinner. We were told to go to the theater where they had set up a buffet. It was so small and I felt that the food was subpar. it was not for human consumption. The beef could not be cut by a knife. The chicken chunks were multi flavoured and I am pretty sure it was leftovers from the chicken eaten in the week. Even the deserts were stale. I ended up eating a coupe of buns as that was the only thing that seemed fresh. I feel very insulted that they would treat their customers this way. Not to mention the ceiling leaked in a few spots. In the week I was there, no effort was madeto repair. Would I recommend this hotel. It is okay, but if you are looking for luxury and to be spoiled, pay the xtra money and go somewhere else. You will not find that kind of treatment here..

Not up to par compared to prior visits
This is my 5th stay at this hotel. We have not been here since 2021. We loved this hotel in the past. This visit I’m disappointed. The service has gone downhill. The food at the buffets has gone down hill. Many staff don’t speak English. I understand I am in their Country and respect that. However employees who work at a resort should speak English. Some of the bar tenders don’t speak English. Needless to say. I won’t be back. Let me mention we are premium level guests. Even the food at the premium level room i.e small bites. Is dry and Luke warm at best Disappointing

Will not be looking to return
Stayed at Occidental Tucancun for 2 weeks and left with mixed feelings. The highlights: Staff – Everyone who works at the hotel is very nice, helpful, and friendly. Our room was always clean and restocked, and any maintenance issues we reported were fixed right away. Location – Right in the middle of the hotel zone, close to the airport on one side and downtown Cancun on the other. The bus stop was very close, which made it easy to get around. Beach – Great views from the hotel, and the beach itself was lovely—clean, not overcrowded, and definitely one of the nicer spots in Cancun. The downsides: Sales – If not for the positives above, we would have rated this hotel 1 star purely because of a very unpleasant encounter with the sales team, who tried to pressure us into a membership subscription. The whole ordeal took almost 3 hours and was one of the most uncomfortable experiences we’ve had while on holiday. One of the salespeople was not only rude and berating but also aggressive. It left a really bad feeling for the rest of our stay. Food and drinks – The buffet food was below average, and 2 out of the 3 à la carte restaurants were disappointing (the Mexican restaurant was the exception). The meals were repetitive and not always fresh or warm. The cocktails were very sweet, and the spirits used were poor quality. Overall, it could be a great place to spend a holiday, but the sheer audacity of the sales team and the low quality of the food mean we would not choose to return.
