    Family Trip to Onyx

Preferred pool: Nelis: BEST WAITRESS! Friendly and helpful to my family. Inoel: knew my family by name. Helped us constantly and was very friendly. Alejandro: best bartender. Fun and energetic, also friendly and helpful! Capers: food was amazing! Our overall favorite dining experience. Hibachi: delicious and perfectly cooked! Preferred: Bartender Julio. Friendly, caring, helpful, and attentive. One of our favorites! Butler Osvaldo: 10/10. Helped us through some difficult situations caused by miscommunication in the office. He took care of my families needs without hesitation. He made sure we had dinner reservations every night, and helped communicate food allergies to restaurant staff. If we return to onyx, we would request him in a heartbeat. Pool: Preferred pool is one of our favorites of any resort we have ever been to. Angel helped us with towels and seats daily for our group of 6. The pool workers (waiters and bartenders) are the absolute best: Nelis, Inoel, Ismael, Alejandro.

Great Pools, Great Staff, meh beach

I decided on this resort because it was family friendly, weather seemed good and the beach look very nice. We did pay for the "preferred" upgrade. In my opinion the upgrade was worth it. It gets you access to the preferred lounges that have top tier alcohol (coronas/Johnny red and black, etc.) Also it gives you access to both a family friendly pool (small, and meh, go to the main pool its great) and the adults only pool (never went once cant say if good or bad or anything). But for the us the benefit came from eating our breakfast and lunch at the preferred seating area (which doubles as a restaurant named Tamarindo at night). This was big for us because you can access the buffet and stay cool in the well Air Conditioned area. Also that AM breakfast team crew were amazing. They go to know our names and allergies... (aguacate for me). But the big big big benefit is the "butler" service. I hate that word and decided never to use it, our "Amigo" NOT BUTLER! was named Zorro. He was amazing, always smiling always around, super quick to text back if hes not around. He made resos at some places on the resort, for my daughters birthday, he sent up a cake and sash over the door when we were at the pool. So when we got back to the room...boom, she was so happy! Also he kept up with me a lot, always asking what he could do or answer any questions we had. The Amigo service for was a big plus for the trip. Im sure Zorro or the team of Amigos could help with near anything you could need/want within reason. While waiting for a drink at the swim up bar, I heard one dude talking to his Amigo , asking if there were places near the resort where he could play baseball ? Its the things like that , that can make a trip truly special. He just made us feel welcome. I do speak Spanish, but the wife and kid not so much. Zorro speaks English like he lives Downtown Toronto! Ha , so if thats a concern, its not a thing at all. On to the resort itself, firstly the resort is modern , clean, and nice. It was standard for a 4-5 star resorts in my view. The pools were really nice, and different. They had lazy rivers for the older/chill folks, the main pool (party pool) was huge with a swim up bar and a Kevin Hart/ The Rock team of bartenders. I dont know their names, but those two were like almost putting on a show while making lots and lots and lots of drinks (main swim up bar, busy busy busy busy). We didnt go to the slide pool, but from how it looks and the amount of happy kids, teens and adults leaving it and talking about it, im sure its also great. The beach on the other hand....I really wanted to spend most of my time their, but do to a few things it did not happen. 1st, they have Caterpillar Style construction trucks hauling seaweed looking stuff (but its called sargassum... i know weird name.. but that's what its called) all day. So while the view was nice, you got too see massive trucks every few minutes , all the time, always. 2nd the beach water like many places has the seaweed thing , so if your not in swim shoes...its really gross. Walk a few feet and it gets better, kinda. Its a nice beach but i wish i knew that it had these things going on before hand. Still ok just not what i was expecting for a top tier resort.

    A ‘Dream’ come true

Great place to relax. So many restaurants and food to choose from. Room service can be a bit of a wait. Many pools and bars all around the resort. The staff is excellent and very friendly and accommodating. Nightly entertainment but felt like poor air circulation. During our stay the sargassum was heavy but still had nice time on the beach which they work hard to keep clean. Highly recommend Dreams Onyx.

    Sargasum is EVERYWHERE

We enjoyed this all inclusive resort tremndously. We had wonderful drinks made by an excellent barista named Carolina at the bar called Mixology. She had a special handcrafted watermelon drink that was fantastic. The Continetal resturant offered many options for food. The water slide was fun for all ages. Now....on the down side there was no access to the ocean becasue of the mountains of seaweed that littered the beach. It is called sargassum and was awful. It smells and then they try to chop it under with a tractor that uses smelly diesel. Also, there is smoking allowed almost everywhere plus next to Cuba, they are very proud of their smelly cigars. SO those were 2 big misteps for us in this trip.

Dreams Onyx is amazing for Families!

Resort is beautiful and clean. Staff especially the bar staff are very accommodating to the kids! Buffet was very good and wait staff especially Carlos made everyone feel like they are a part of the family there. Each specialty restaurant had its ups and some downs but the French and Italian were heads and tails above the others in our opinion. Beach was beautiful despite the Sargassum issue this year. Can’t wait to visit again!
