They advertise “Gourmet Inclusive five-star service.” We got cockroaches and reheated burgers.

They Call It “Gourmet Inclusive.” We Called It Inedible. — Nickelodeon Punta Cana The Karisma website promises that every guest at Nickelodeon Punta Cana will receive “five-star service” through their signature Karisma Gourmet Inclusive® Experience — described specifically as “gourmet meals, premium drinks, and personalized service,” with dishes “made from fresh garden ingredients” across 8 restaurants. They have awards. They have glowing photography of families laughing over beautifully plated food. We have cockroaches, water-logged burgers, and a checkout billing dispute. Here is what the Gourmet Inclusive® experience actually looks like on the ground. The “Gourmet” Food Is Not Gourmet The main dining room — your default option if you can’t secure a reservation elsewhere — served steak, fish, and poultry that was consistently inedible. The angus burgers were stored in water and reheated before service. We left most meals unfinished. Having stayed at all-inclusive resorts across the Caribbean, Mexico, and Europe, this is the single lowest food quality we have ever experienced. The website promises dishes crafted from “fresh garden ingredients.” The reality was reheated protein sitting in water. The only genuinely good food was at WokWok, Spacewalk, and Verdetto. Which brings us to the central trap of this resort. 8 Restaurants Advertised. Effectively 1 You Can Access. Karisma markets 8 restaurants as part of your stay. What they don’t mention prominently is that the quality options all require reservations through their proprietary app — and the app is functionally broken. It crashes, freezes, and times out repeatedly. We logged in at 9am sharp when reservations opened and found every time slot across every restaurant already gone. Multiple days in a row. When the app fails — and it will — you fall back to the main dining room. The one with the reheated burgers. This is the Gourmet Inclusive® experience in practice: eight restaurants on paper, one real option in the room. The website also advertises 24-hour room service. We did not find this to be a reliable backup. Cockroaches on Night One Two cockroaches in the bathroom on our first night. This is a five-star, award-winning Gourmet Inclusive® resort. We will leave the implications of that for you to draw your own conclusions. Service: Polite People, Broken System Staff across the property were largely warm and trying their best. At breakfast in Verdetto, a black coffee took close to an hour. Butter was never replenished. Basic requests disappeared. This is not a criticism of the individuals — it is a criticism of the operational infrastructure they are working inside. The website promises “personalized service.” What guests receive is polite staff operating inside a system that prevents them from delivering on that promise. Audit Your Bill Before You Leave The checkout process involved incorrect charges for experiences we had consumed during the stay. Customer service was unhelpful when we raised the discrepancies. Check every line item before you walk out. The People Who Genuinely Earned Their Stars Francisco and his team at the pool bar were the single best service experience on the entire property — fast, warm, attentive, and consistent every day without exception. Jayse, Elvin, Bladimir, Miguel at the pool, and Jamon at the Italian restaurant also consistently delivered. These individuals are working hard inside a system that sets them up to fail guests. They deserve better management above them. Final Verdict Nickelodeon Punta Cana has won awards. It has polished marketing. It calls itself Gourmet Inclusive® and promises five-star service to families. What it delivers is broken app infrastructure that controls your ability to eat, a main dining room serving reheated food, pest concerns in guest rooms, and billing errors at checkout. The gap between what Karisma promises on their website and what is delivered at this property is not a minor shortfall — it is a fundamental misrepresentation of the experience. We would not return at any price. If you are planning a family trip and considering this resort, research alternatives before booking. The brand promise and the guest reality are not the same thing.

    Save your money

TL;DR: Completely let down by the entire experience. Food was consistently cold and overly salty, the resort is tired and understaffed, and there is nothing five-star, luxury, or gourmet about this hotel. You could stay somewhere without the Nickelodeon branding and have a far better holiday. Check-in & first impressions Check-in took an extremely long time due to huge queues and not enough staff. We didn’t receive the advertised welcome drinks. The resort itself feels tired and run down. Hallways were often dirty and clearly needed sweeping. Everything feels like it’s overdue some serious maintenance. Rooms At first glance, the room was adequate. Beds were comfortable (including the sofa bed), but that’s where the positives mostly end. The shower leaked badly into the toilet and out into the room, leaving the floor soaked. The rugs were absolutely vile — clearly not properly cleaned. Towels were rarely replaced correctly, bins weren’t emptied daily, and toilet roll wasn’t consistently restocked. One of the sliding doors would not close. We were given only two coffees on arrival. Despite requesting more, they never arrived. There’s tea, but only coffee mate — no milk — making it undrinkable. Mini-bar restocking requires calling to request it, which is unheard of for a supposed five-star all-inclusive. Food (the biggest failure) The food was by far the worst part of the stay. The buffet food was consistently cold or tepid, even freshly replaced trays. This happened at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Everything was also heavily over-salted. I regularly left meals hungry because the food was simply unpalatable. The omelette station was decent when you could get it, but queues were often too long to justify the wait. Service ranged from acceptable to poor, with drinks sometimes arriving after we’d finished eating. High chairs were constantly an issue — baffling for a family-focused hotel. Booking à la carte restaurants requires logging onto an app at exactly 9am and competing with everyone else. Space Walker was never available. • Burger restaurant: Cold starters, poor burgers (mine overly sweet and salty; my husband’s both under- and over-cooked on the same bun). Desserts repeated elsewhere and weren’t worth ordering again. • Verdello: The only restaurant we somewhat enjoyed. Food was tasty but still overly salty. On our second visit we waited an hour for food, struggled again for a high chair, and my main arrived barely blue instead of medium-rare. Staff worked incredibly hard but were clearly understaffed. • Wok Wok: The worst of all. Slow service, constant high-chair issues, and terrible food. The Pad Thai was sickly sweet with no peanuts; the ramen was a poor imitation. We left hungry. • Room service: Quoted 1.5-hour waits on multiple occasions, so we gave up. Only canned drinks available — no wine. For a five-star resort, this is unacceptable, especially when travelling with young children. • Pool bar / water park food: Burgers raw and cold, fries cold, fried chicken cold and salty. Pizza was okay but oddly sweet. Cold wraps were fine. • Beach area: No food options. Presumably closed due to construction. • Fresco: Possibly the best food on site. Hot and tasty, but painfully slow due to severe understaffing. • Sweetery: Excellent — no complaints here. Concierge & sales pitch Our “concierge” was more interested in pushing a sales pitch than providing actual help. We agreed only to access the discounted character breakfast. One concierge just told us to make reservations on the app, after we received a seconds info stating he could make us reservations, he would get us a table, when I followed up with him he never replied. The sales presentation was an obvious scam and far exceeded the promised time. The 20% shop discount was misleading — it only applied to full-price items, and most stock was already discounted, making it useless. The character breakfast itself was actually very good, with hot food — but I’d rather pay full price than endure that experience again. However it was just really a photo opportunity rather than any interaction with the characters. Facilities & activities • Water park was good. • A newer pool area for smaller children (poorly signposted) was excellent. • Character meet-and-greets were well organised. • Face painter was absolutely brilliant. • Beach flags were red or yellow every day, making the sea unsuitable for small children. The beach also had noticeable rubbish and no sunbeds available. Pools everywhere were freezing. • Shuttle service was so infrequent that walking was faster. Checkout & departure Checkout was slow and chaotic. Worse still, we nearly missed our transfer because staff repeatedly told the taxi driver we weren’t there — despite us waiting in the lobby the entire time. Final thoughts I genuinely dislike writing negative reviews, but this was the worst holiday I’ve ever been on. It is nowhere near five-star or luxury, and the value simply is not there. The Nickelodeon branding cannot make up for poor food, understaffing, and disorganisation. And for a Nickelodeon resort — they don’t even have the Nickelodeon channel on the TV. Do not waste your money.

A Family Vacation Nightmare Disguised as a Resort

I am currently staying here and leaving this Friday, and I honestly cannot wait to go home. This trip was meant to be special for my father-in-law, with family flying in from Rio and Miami. It is our first time at this resort, and the experience has been frustrating, disorganized, and far below what is advertised or priced. The food is awful — and that’s being generous. When a resort manages to mess up something as basic as a hamburger, that says everything about the kitchen and quality standards. The rest of the food is no better. On top of that, the reservation system makes it nearly impossible to access the few restaurants that exist. This is supposed to be an all-inclusive resort, yet it feels like the entire setup is designed to avoid serving guests. Room service is advertised as 24 hours. In reality, it seems to take 24 hours to get a simple pasta. As I am writing this review, I have already waited over an hour for spaghetti bolognese for my 4-year-old child, only to be told it would be another 30 minutes — with no apology, no empathy, and no effort to help. Making a small child wait 90+ minutes for basic food at a so-called family resort is unacceptable. The service is terrible — not because the staff is rude, but because they are clearly untrained and unsupported by management. Many staff members are actually nice people, but they don’t seem empowered to solve problems, move faster, or take responsibility when things go wrong. Even something as basic as refilling the minibar requires calling and chasing it down. The water park staff were unsympathetic and rude, which is especially disappointing in a resort built around children and fun. The entire property feels overwhelmed, poorly managed, and indifferent to guest experience. This resort is riding on the Nickelodeon name while delivering a poorly run, overcrowded, low-quality experience. If you care about food, service, or basic hospitality, do not come here. This is not what an all-inclusive resort should be. We traveled a long way for this trip, and it has been a huge disappointment
