Hard to do better than Barcelo Riviera Maya
Top notch resort! Adults-only (i.e., no kids around) was a surprisingly great thing about the stay. It makes it peaceful and quiet. Hard to do better! Highly recomended.

Come see Katia at the Pool Bar
Pool bar was amazing! Katia Cespedes took such good care of us. Amazing personality and service. Pool was relaxing and not too crowded as it was the quiet pool. Wife and I enjoyed ourselves daily at the pool. Lounge chairs were easy to get. Will be back to visit again.

Fun relaxing time.
Love the hospitality team poolside, kept the Frappuccino’s & water coming all day. Shout out to Felipe, nahomy, juan, and Karla on the f&b side. Irelli was a gem figuring out activities and entertainment

Excellent service
Excellent service from Carlos Lopez. He is very attentive and kind. Always is around asking to serve. The drinks were tasty.

Quality control
If I could give 3.5 stars, I would—because that’s more reflective of how I feel. Here's the breakdown. PROS Beds are incredible — seriously some of the best I’ve ever slept in. Nighttime entertainment is top-notch — fun, high-quality shows that exceeded expectations. Spacious rooms — big, comfortable, and modern. Epic pool — large, clean, and well-designed. Access to the entire Barcelo complex — being able to explore the other resorts and amenities was a huge plus. CONS - The food was... rough. Especially at the buffets. We found hairs in our meals, and more than once, ate numerous pieces of rotten-tasting seafood, and wandered around feeling repulsed by most of the offerings by our second day. The à la carte restaurants were significantly better, but overall, food was a low point. There is an excessive amount of poor-quality food available and it just leaves you feeling a bit gross at the end of the day. - Strict and poorly-communicated dress codes. Men must wear pants to the restaurants—something we didn’t know ahead of time (and didn’t pack for). Staff wasn’t super helpful in communicating the rules, either. - Learning about their dolphin abuse was also problematic. We read after booking that the resort had recently come under fire for dolphin mistreatment, which put a damper on the experience. That said, Maya Riviera is the nicest of all the hotels in the Barcelo compound. The whole complex really is like a Disneyland — there's a shopping mall, a shuttle bus system, go-karts, a waterpark, and more. At the end of the day, the price point ($150 per person/night) made this feel like a decent value. We chose it because it looked modern and seemed to offer a lot for the price — which it did. But would I come back? Probably not — the food was the dealbreaker.
