An amazing place we can't help but return to!

Grand Velas never disappoints! This last trip was our 5th or 6th time at Grand Velas Los Cabos. My husband and I usually go by ourselves but this time brought some friends along. The resort is beautiful, peaceful, and well maintained. The rooms are large, relaxing and have the best balconies. You can sit outside your room on the comfortable day bed in total privacy. The food is always great. Our favorite restaurant is Velas 10, second favorite is Lucca. Cocina de Autor is a wonderful and unique experience so I highly recommend it. The thing that keeps us coming back is the service and amazing staff. By the pool, we had a great time getting to know Isabel. She provided amazing service and was just so kind and fun. Juan, our favorite waiter of all time, is at Lucca. He always remembers us when we come back and spends time catching up with us, while still hustling and providing great service. Our concierge, Atenas, was delightful and really helpful. During our last two stays, Claudia Gutierrez was our concierge and it was great to see her at the end of our stay when she came back from a vacation. I highly recommend them both!

    Not the best for Couples

A review for Couples. First, I don't really recommend this hotel for couples, Yes, there is an associated "Boutique" hotel 2 doors down that is couples only, however there's not a lot to do/eat there; and we met a lot of couples that stayed there, but spend their days at the Grand Velas (since the amenities are much better). If you are a couple looking to get away from kids running around everywhere (including ALL breakfast and lunch restaurants), then you will be disappointed. There are a few dinner restaurants that are adults only and an adults only pool, so there is a reprieve. Having, said all that, we're conflicted, the room was amazing, and some of the dinner restaurants are the best I've eaten at in all of Mexico. So as a foodie, it was nice. Pros: - Autor - one of the best restaurants in North America. This is probably the biggest reason to stay here. - Cocktail making class at the bar in Autor was amazing! (however, its a max of eight, so I'd arrive 15min early to make sure you get a spot). - Grand Class Corner Suite (resort view) - one of the best rooms I've stayed in (just see my PSA below). Stay on the 3rd floor or higher for unobstructed views. - There is an adults pool with lots of chairs, not need to get down early to get a spot (maybe during very busy periods). - Quality of pool loungers is very good, much better than any other resort. - Room service was also excellent, one of the best Ramen bowls I've had (and yes, I've been to Japan). - The have free tequila and mezcal tastings (check the weekly events calendar, and plan accordingly). - All adult dinner restaurants are great! Cons: - No a la carte breakfast & lunch restaurants, you are stuck having a buffets (which gets old), especially since they don't put families on a section, so you can have screaming kids right next to you. - Fish tacos at the pool were cold and nasty. - Noisy: this hotel is full of families and groups (corporate, weddings, etc..). Outdoor meeting events & weddings go until ~11pm, and the music can be pretty loud. - They allow vaping, speakers and non-guests at the Adults pool. Even though smoking/vaping is not allowed in Mexico, the pools staff favor tips over other guests' comfort. Not sure why people insist on bringing speakers to the pool, use your headphones! - If you are staying at the Grand Velas and you want some quiet time at the Boutique hotel's adults only pool, you cannot use their pool (but their guests can use the Grand Velas pool). - They say tipping is included, but its not really, bring cash to the pool to tip for drinks. Grand Class Corner Suite PSA: I found the webpage for this room category very deceiving. They show a picture with a wall of windows on 2 sides, but they have a “resort side” and a “sand dune” side. They are very different on the inside and location. The “sand dune” side is larger inside and the patio, and has a sand dune view (as well as highway), it is on the windy side (see pic). We first got this room (even though we requested the resort side when we booked 6 months ago) and it was a huge let down and so windy we could not even use the patio. It doesn’t have any side windows, only windows onto the ocean. So, it was much darker. They changed us to the “resort side” the next day, and wow what a huge difference. It had 4 balconies (even one off the shower), and was very bright and on the sunrise side. It is smaller inside & patio, but no wind at all. The problem is Grand Velas considers these the same room, so you may book it and get the “dark side” because they will not guarantee it. This should be a different room category, since it’s not at all the same room. It was a very disappointing start to our vacation, but all is well now. Hope this helps future guests!

    Great family vacation

We got to experience this 2 different ways in the last month. We went on a friends trip end of November and a family trip the 2nd week of December. Both were great experiences enhanced by our concierge abdias. For the family, the kids club was a god send. They were fantastic (even with out shy kids) there was fun activities everyday. The pool entertainment was great for the adults with the workout classes (thanks Cynthia and Andrea) this place is worth every penny.
