Jan 26, 2026Great Place for a Getaway with some Much Needed improvement Suggestions
We stayed at The Level at Melia Punta Cana Wellness from Jan 13-18, which we really enjoyed. We will definitely return in 2027. I would have gladly given the resort a 5 star rating, once management makes some easy remedies to their current policies mentioned by several former guests on this website. First, the positives: The location could not be better. We are golfers and the solid golf course, the Cocotal, is literally a 5 minute drive from the resort. The resort provides convenient shuttle service to/from the course. In addition, the cost to play was discounted 50% to Melia guests. Next, the stay at the resort: The Level is just that, a level above the main resort privileges . As mentioned, there is a designated restaurant located just steps from the pool and beach that is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food was far superior to the food at most of the resort's other dining facilities, particularly for breakfast. I ate salmon twice there and it was cooked to order "medium rare." The staff could not have been nicer and more accommodating (so pleased I was trying to speak Spanish with them!) The rooms were lovely. We stayed in Building 7, facing the gardens. It was well-appointed with a free stocked mini bar, nice bathroom fixtures (large shower, separate soaking tub, and comfortable king-size bed.) Flat screen TV worked well (could have used a printed listing of the TV stations on paper; TV guide on remote did not work.) Attended 2 yoga classes and used the spa services twice. Both were very good. Pool and beach chairs were comfortable. There is bar service at both, but sometimes spotty due to not enough staff. We really enjoyed using the Hobie catamaran rental during the week for a one-time $60 rental fee. We had prior sailing experience and with a 30 minute instruction the first day, it was a real plus. Very good alcoholic drinks, especially for an all-inclusive. Premium brands included Don Julio, Stoli, Absolute, Grey Goose, but only at the Level. Cleaning service, servers, and concierge (Juan) were all wonderful. Now for suggestions to management: Improve your customer service processes. The flow at check-in was very poor. "Use the app" is not a great way to welcome your first-time guests to orient us concerning food reservations, layout of resort, spa services, wellness classes. The resort map was so microscopic you couldn't decipher any locations - totally useless. Although there was a digital sign in the lobby of the Level, it was not working the entire time we were there. THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO ORIENTATION REGARDING SERVICES, LOCATIONS, DINING OPTIONS, OR SPA SERVICES. It was impossible to make reservations for dinner. But, when we finally had Luce make one, it was for the wrong time. So incredibly frustrating. Although we brought golf clubs, the golf discount was never even mentioned. A simple printout every morning would have been helpful. It took us 2 days to figure out the lay of the land. It was clear to us by the end of the week that many Level guests experienced the same lack of organization by management. It was the talk over dinner one night.

We upgraded to Level, as I’ve done at other all inclusives. On check in we met our concierge. She gave me a WhatsApp number to text for reservations and spa appointments. I tipped her upon meeting her, as with my past experience at other hotels, you have a close relationship with your concierge. I texted her and didn’t hear back. The next day I went to the Level office and the number I had was incorrect. The guy in the office helped me make 2 dinner reservations, but the other two nights we stayed they said they had no availability. We also got a ton of varying information from different Level staff members about what restaurants were included in the all inclusive vs what wasn’t. Overall I feel like I didn’t get to use all of the amenities that I paid for with the Level due to lack of communication. The pools were nice, the beaches were nice. The restaurants we were able to try were good. Decent service at the pool but we had to go up to the bar to get drinks most of the time. People put towels on chairs very early in the morning so by 8:00am they were almost all taken. It was interesting that we left for lunch for just about an hour and when we came back they had removed our towels and moved our books. Not sure how the system goes with reserving them with towels for hours in the morning but can’t leave to eat for an hour at lunch time.
