We loved the short time we had before my wife became ill. She developed a bacterial infection in her stomach during our stay which kept us for enjoying the scheduled activities. We missed out on the spa and excursions that were all fully paid for. Overall, Melia was great. We’re just disappointed we couldn’t take advantage of the full experience. Feeling like we missed out.

    Not at all 5 star

This is not a 5 star hotel. Not the food, service or accommodation. We have just had a 9 day stay at this resort. On arrival there was a mix up with our booking (no fault of the hotel) but Ferdinand on reception was totally unhelpful and downright rude. The rooms were tired and not to a 5 star standard, the main shower head did not work, they were informed if this immediately but never came to fix this. The hairdryer holder was hanging off the wall so was the extractor fan cover, the plugs in both the sink and bidet did not work and the makeup mirror was hanging by thread. The tv contrast was so dark you couldn’t see and there was no way of adjusting this. The room was cleaned ok but every single day I had to call down to the concierge to tell them that things had not been replaced be it towels, flannels, coffee, water etc and the soap in the dispensers was 90% water and this as I said was every day and to add insult to injury we were approached by the maid who wanted to tell us that she was not in for the next 3 days so could she have a tip now!! At breakfast not once did the waiter say good morning or even smile and this we found out was because he wanted us to tip him everyday infact this is how it works in this hotel, you tip everyday or you get bad service. The food was very average even in the a la carte restaurants. In the main buffet restaurant the food was open to the elements with fly’s all over the cold food which I might add was not kept cold enough so the cheese and cold meats all looked sweaty. The toaster never worked properly and even though they had upteen complaints they made no attempt to put this right. The staff at the pool bar were the nicest in the hotel but there was no drinks service around the pool (which I have never come across before). All in all our stay was not at all enjoyable and the only nice thing at the hotel are the grounds. So if you want a nice enjoyable 5 star holiday do not choose this hotel.

    Hotel good

It’s a very tranquil hotel/resort. With all places there will always be some staff that can completely spoil your experience. The upgrade to the Level isn’t worth the price. In terms of outside the resort there isnt much and staff tend to deter you, didn’t stop me though. You don’t see the real Dominican Republic at the resort or Downtown, you will need to travel to Bavaro to experience that. The food is genuinely the best I’ve had in terms of selection and quality and the options of booking a restaurant is an added bonus. TOURS, be very cautious when booking. The Dolphin tour they say they’re free to come and go but they’re fed so come back which in reality is not true. La Hacienda Park is bite sized where you can do several activities. The reality is you spend 10 min driving a buggy and 10mins at the river. The hotel have nothing to do with them, just allow them to offer these tours to guests. So be wise and avoid Dominican Discovery tours when approached and I’m sure your holiday will be amazing!! Overall id say this hotel and location is ideal for the slower paced people of the world that either like to chill and do very little or need to reset and energise.

    Outstanding Vacation

Don't underestimate the value of having a concierge when deciding whether to choose to upgrade your vacation. Our concierges, Juan Adbricoles and Jose Minaya, were incredible. They took care of all the pesky details...booked dinner, massages, cabanas, changed money for us, even found bandages for a stubbed toe. Having access to them made our vacation very relaxing. We stayed in the Level section of the resort. The rooms were clean. Food was good and the rest of the staff very friendly. An easy trip to recommend.

    Phenomenal Service

Our concierges, Juan Adbricoles and Jose Minaya, were awesome and made our vacation very relaxing. The rooms were cleans and kept very clean. Food was good, but we had limited options for gluten free, but the staff was knowledgeable on what we could eat.
