More than the how the place is, what matters is how you are treated. Thank you Francili and Antonio!!!
Absolute exquisite experience from the moment I arrived until I left. The resort is clean and the views are mesmerizing. But what really took me away was the regular staff that you interacted with on the regular basis from being at the bar or getting a ride on the golf carts etc. I had the pleasure of meeting with Francili on my first day and he is the reason I am writing the review as he made my stay very pleasant. I was with my wife and 1.5 year old daughter. He went above and beyond for everything. Getting me rides, room service, special requests. He was only a text away and when he wasn’t working he had his other co workers handle all my requests. I am very grateful that I got to meet him on my first day, my words can’t describe how grateful I am for him to make my experience so extraordinary. Also, I would like to thank Antonio at the Riviera bar, he works after 3 everyday and just an awesome guy with a great personality and attitude, make sure you meet him as well. I really enjoyed ours talks Antonio and I surely plan to be back soon!

Large property with poor restaurants and loud groups
This hotel covers a huge area and has beautiful well manicured grounds with roaming peacocks and birdlife. The beach has white sand and lots of space and loungers but is VERY windy with seaweed washed up. The rooms are large with comfortable beds, and good facilities . The food is varied and plentiful . There are 2 main pools . One is for Level guests and I urge you to upgrade. The restaurants are noisy and at breakfast and lunchtime are like a bunfight. The staff struggle to serve you coffee and the self service is manic. The Japanese restaurant ( supplement ) and Riviera ( for Level guests only) are the best of a bad bunch. The main pool has very loud music playing , the entertainment at night is garish and really for kids. There is no style or elegance to this hotel and it does not feel like a 5 star experience . While the food is quite good , meals are not a pleasant event. Service at The Level ( premium room , drinks, restaurant and pool) was desultory to the point of rudeness. The Level bar has only a few bar stools to sit on and is not conducive to meeting friends. It is tagged on the the Level restaurant. Some of the staff were lovely while others were just not interested. The golf course at Cocotel was pleasant and the Rafa nadal tennis centre next to the hotel was good . ( 112$ per 1 hr lesson) If you’re a couple this hotel is not for you, too brash. If you’re an American in a large group with an assortment of children you’ll love it.

A fine vacation location
This is our second time vacationing at this resort. The service and location are top notch. We did have a problem with our room which could not be resolved, and we were moved to another room. The staff is friendly, warm and hospitable. Overall, I would gladly recommend this resort to friends or family!!

2-3* at best! Book somewhere else!
I booked with on the beach (never again). Expecting an amazing 5* all inclusive trip for 2 weeks in the Caribbean. We arrived at the resort and it looked stunning from the reception, we even got a golf caddy to drive us to our room which was great! once we got in to the room, we were immediately disappointed in the room. Very dated, TV that didn't work, and a rough balcony - not what I'd consider 5*. However we didn't plan on staying in the room that much anyway. Cleaning wise, in 2 weeks, they changed our bedding once....on the 12th day. cleaning comprised of wetting our floor and emptying bins. Occasionally (once a week) our fridge would be topped up with 4 bottles of water. It's a really big hotel with different areas accessible dependant on your status (the level) we were all inclusive but basic - which i presume is why our room was poor. although we were close to the beach and close to the pool. Also, there is a small train or golf carts that will take you around the resort - our 3 kids loved this. Food - I've never really had all inclusive abroad before, so i was excited especially considering there around 5 or more restaurants here. We tried each apart from the id paid ones. first night - buffet in the main area. Food was....pretty poor. pretty much the same bland food daily (although they have themed nights). eating this for 2 weeks was awful in the end. the Italian restaurant had a limited (poor) menu and food was terrible, Mexican - staff were incredible but again, food terrible. Bones in chicken, food tasted bland, the grill (steak place) was also terrible....i don't think it's fair to call any of this steak. We ended up sticking to the buffet as the kids enjoyed the ice cream....until they found plastic in it - which we complained about to a member of staff who asked the manager to discuss with us. The manager looked over, then avoided us for the rest of the night. The only positive was breakfast....good variety, made to order omelette/eggs, pastries etc. Although i would take your own tea/coffee because theirs was terrible. beach - on first glance looked incredible, blue seas and golden sand. This is what we came for. when we got on the beach, our kids started playing in the sand while my partner and i set up our sun beds. turned around to see them holding cigar butts, bottle tops and plastic rubbish that came from just below the surface of the sand. such a shame. Then we went to swim in the sea, close to the sea was mounds (45cm high) of sea weed which you had to wade through/climb over to get to the sea). Lovely warm sea, shame swimming in it is impossible due to the amount of seaweed there getting tangled up in your legs. Another disappointment on a very expensive holiday. Pool - there were 3 pools that we could visit on our basic level. the main pool (with a swim up bar), the one by the restaurant (quite small) then the waterpark; main pool - green scum floating on kids pool so we avoided that and took our kids in to the main pool - absolutely huge. although...still a little dirty. Cups & straws floating in the pool. The swim up bar was nice, always music playing....real Caribbean vibes. However the drinks were awful! Lager tasted foul and served in paper cups, mojitos were hit and miss and everything else was overwhelmed by sugar. So, looks like my holiday will mainly be drinking water....which i usually like - but even this tasted terrible. So i stuck to bottled water which was in limited supply (more on that later). Small pool by the restaurant - small, cleaner but limited seating. nice pool to be fair. Water park - bit dated, bit grubby, slightly overcrowded but kids enjoyed it there and the food was passable (basic food like burgers, chicken nuggets etc). However, buy day 5 of our holiday we noticed little spots appearing by our 1 year olds mouth. She got a temperature, then more spots and her body was covered. Turns out she caught hand, foot an mouth disease. The next day, i also got this. Which ruined our holiday. i pretty much stayed in the room for just over 7 days because the sun made it worse, i didn't want to infect anyone else there (highly contagious) and only ventured out for food & water. I also struggled to walk much due to the spots & eventual blistering all over my feet. Staff - really hit and miss. Some were lovely and friendly but also some were terrible, didn't care, ignored what you said/asked for. Other facilities - gym. close to the pool. Pretty basic but they had a couple of treadmills, 2 benches, squat rack and a few other bits. Fine for holiday gym. no complaints Shop - there is an onsite shop which sold your usual tourist stuff plus a few snacks & medicines, we ran out of some of the basics, sun lotion, baby wipes (as our 1 year old contracted hand foot and mouth we got through more than we thought - more on this later). This shop is insanely expensive. We spend $65 on sun lotion (one bottle), $18 on 2 packs of baby wipes and $5 on a bottle of water - as i couldn't get any anywhere else. Avoid if possible, crazy prices. anything else As i mentioned above, we ran out of baby wipes as our child was ill & used alot more than we brought with us. we went to the shop who advised they didn't have any but their other ship did - this was located in the 'adults only' section of the resort. the lady in the shop directed us where to go. We started walking that way and entered the resort - it looked stunning!!!! However we were stopped by an employee driving a golf buggy who said 'no kids' we explained the situation and he told us to jump on the golf buggy and he would take us. Really nice, helpful guy. However when we got to the reception area in the adults only area, security stopped us, gave us and the driver a right shouting at. We tried to explain and they escorted us off site. The way they spoke to us was terrible. what is worse, is we were outside the shop. after being escorted back to 'our side' of the hotel we spoke to the manager who tried to send us off site to the local chemist (which another staff member warned us not to go). eventually this other staff member took me to the other shop....which was a 3 minute walk from reception. We wasted 4 hours walking around for something that should take 3 minutes. We also booked private transfers through on the beach...We waited over an hour for this to turn up getting there, then never showed up when we were due to leave. We waited for an additional hour and had to get reception to book a taxi (at our cost). We only just caught the gate before it closed. We were the last to board the plane. to conclude, if your staying in anywhere but the level and higher, rooms are basic, not very clean and i would consider 2-3* by English standards. Food - plenty of it but awful - 2*, drink - terrible. So hard just to get water too. 1*. Staff, some were amazing but very very few. 2*. The resort looks beautiful in the photos but in reality it was horrible. We've never wanted to go home so much from a holiday before. I will never stay in a Melia again. Such a disappointment!
