    Don't have a wedding here!!

    Just got back from a wedding, and just want to tell everyone not to make the same mistake. Half the attendees didn’t get the rooms they booked, and the resort was at 100% capacity with at least two weddings going on at the same time — and no one on staff knows how to coordinate one! The day of the ceremony, the wedding guests were sent to five different locations! When we finally got to the right beach, a downpour starts. OK, let’s go to the rain location — except it’s unavailable because another wedding asked for it first! And there’s only ONE indoor venue at a resort in the tropics, during hurricane season. We waited out the rain and started the ceremony, but there were more clouds rolling in and thunder/lightning. Despite this, the workers were setting up everything on the beach, all the decor, food and guest books with no cover. So when the rain arrived five minutes later, everything was ruined. (Oh, and they cut the groom’s mic in the middle of his vows!) The food was inedible. We weren’t expecting anything fancy for all-inclusive but the meals were legit gross. We all went inside to the lobby bar, where we waited two hours before the staff started bringing out the hors d’oeuvres — but since it’s in the lobby bar, other hotel guests swarmed them and none of the guests got any of it. Then we get sent to a “convention center” for the reception, which was just a dark room in the back of the resort with no windows with no decor, flowers, nothing that the bride and groom had picked out and planned. Oh, and the door to our room didn’t have an inside lock and staff just kept walking into our room without knocking?! There was a button you could click, but that expires every X number of minutes. So yeah, never again! Don’t make this wedding party’s mistake!

    Beautiful propterty, the right price, but the value just isn't there.

    Disclaimer: We are admittedly picky, so please take that into consideration. I'm breaking this review into three sections: food and drink, room/pools/beach, and overall service. Food and Drink: My husband is a vegetarian, and the limited options available were simply not good, with the exception of the Mexican restaurant where he enjoyed a mixed vegetable torta. While the resort food wasn't the best I've had, it wasn't terrible. I found the Mexican dishes at the buffet to be the best. The Japanese restaurant, however, was horrible – there's no other way to put it. The French restaurant wasn't much better, though I did enjoy the duck confit. However, the salad nicoise had canned tuna instead of grilled tuna, which was disappointing-- and I love canned tuna-- that was not the issue. The Saturday night Mexican fiesta had great food but almost no vegetarian options, which was very disappointing. Overall, I wasn't satisfied with the food. As for drinks, they were fine but inconsistent. The Club pool bartender was the best – I wish I could remember his name. Room/Pools/Beach: We had a king swim-out room with a living room (#2019), and it was one of the nicest resort rooms we've had (our only other resort experiences being Atelier and Unico). We really enjoyed the space, but it could have been cooler. Despite keeping our AC at 60°, it couldn't keep up with the heat and typical to resort rooms, there was a bit of a damp musky smell that I cannot see past. Our sliding door was nearly impossible to open because of traction (I am 6'1 and 230 lbs and struggled) Additionally, there was significant water buildup in the bathroom light fixture. The pools were nice, clean, and well-kept, and the beach was incredible – beautiful, clean, with little seaweed. Service: Everyone was very friendly, but the biggest negative for me was the lack of housekeeping. I don't stay in Airbnb's because when I'm on vacation I want fresh towels and to not make a bed (or cook!). We had to call for housekeeping on our first day, and no one showed up until we were back in our room for the evening. The floors were FILTHY, and within 20 minutes of checking in, I stepped on a large piece of glass and cut my foot-- the glass was not ours. We only received fresh towels once during our 4-night stay, and there were no pool towels for our swim-out room. The bathroom was not cleaned at all during our stay. We always ask ourselves when we travel "would we go back?" And the answer for this resort is, unfortunately, no.

    Everything We Could Have Asked For

    We just got back from a 5 night stay at ME. I understand everyone’s experiences are valid, but sometimes I think nitpicking and going in with a sour taste, will have you leaving with the same. On to my review 🏝️ Amstar was our transport and had zero hiccups. They didn’t rush us, greeted us, took our bags, and drove very cautiously. The resort is double gated and you’re dropped off and welcomed by staff with the most delicious strawberry drink with pellet ice cubes 🍹 We arrived at 10am so of course the room wasn’t ready. We were on The Club side. We were asked if we wanted a king bed or 2 doubles and got the doubles we requested. They were fully booked so I’d understand if not. They gave you your bracelet and you had access to everything while you waited. Beautiful shower and changing rooms to change into your bathing suits and wash up. The beach 🏖️ was aqua blue and calm. Cabanas were all filled but it’s not that big of deal to us. There was some seaweed but not enough to cause a complaint. It’s nature. The beach didn’t have much seaweed either. We were in 2208. Our views were perfect. We could see the water, heard the entertainment in the theater, could see the Infinity pool bar, and was a good spot for people watching and relaxing on the balcony. Our butler, Felipe, did above and beyond for us. Made sure we had pillows that we liked and beds turned down each night along with aromatherapy (green apple is the best). He found us everyday to check in on our needs. He was attentive, personable, and all round just wonderful. We tipped him very well and he took very good care of us. If you go to the Infinity pool (adults only), seek out Rayli. Hands down the absolute best. We never had to go to the swim up for drinks. We were able to get the cabanas in the water. Water perfect. Drinks delicious. Vibes were 🤌🏼 A friendly tip - These staff depend on tips. $1 for a group of 10 isn’t going to get you the service you think you’re entitled to. We had a group of 8 and would rotate who tipped. THEY WORK THEIR TAILS OFF FOR US. Please tip them 🙌🏻 It’s huuuuumid. We brought Damp Rid to hang and they saved our room from feeling overwhelmingly wet. Make sure you close your balcony door because your air conditioner WILL SHUT OFF. The steakhouse was amazing. The filet was melt in your mouth good. We wanted a watermelon mojito but they didn’t have watermelon. About 1/2 through dinner, the waiter came back with watermelon. Idk where he went, but he was attentive and pulled through. Hibachi was good as well. They fill you up with the best fried rice and the meat and veggies portions get smaller as it goes but it’s a 6-course meal. Italian was decent. Mexican was good. Mar House buffet was good. We didn’t enjoy Mar House surf and turf night. Ordered a well done (don’t judge) steak and it was rare. They tried accommodating with a new one but still was rare. Lobster was overcooked. But ya know what? You can leave and go to another restaurant 🤯 as some members of our group did. Entertainment was good. Every single staff member was friendly acknowledging you everytime with Hola!👋 Did they have some paint chipping? Yes. Were the floors slippery when wet? Yes. Were there rust spots in the shower? Yes. Get over it 😅 it’s a huge property. People were cleaning pools, pruning hedges, and cleaning all day. Give them some grace. My only complaint really is that the bracelets are made of wood and they get waterlogged and do break often. They’re efficient and will give you a new one if you tell them, no matter how many times it breaks. If you lose it though, they charge $90 😐 so if it breaks try to keep it in a safe place until you can switch it out. All in all 9.5/10. I hope this helps! 🤩

    Must Return ASAP

    This resort is a must see, must go, and for me a must return. I travelled with my family for a wedding and my son’s 2nd birthday. This property did not disappoint. The staff were sooo friendly and accommodating. I do need to meet room Diana from the kids club was absolutely incredible. She was helpful and so nice to my son. So welcoming and a joy and perfect for children. My son was able to enjoy the kids club every morning. As well as Londres, who helped me with a special piñata we brought. We also got to see Diana the day we left who gave my son a special piñata gift full of little snacks and a tshirt to remember his stay. Your children will be in great hands with the kids club team. The food options are la cartes and buffets were amazing and I’m still dreaming about the flavors breakfast buffet refried beans and empanadas. Mar house was perfect for lunch with a view. The hamburger and hot dog stand on the beach was incredible. But my absolute favorite was the Mexican a la carte. The server we had was so great, helpful, and if you’re lucky enough to be celebrating a birthday a surprise you won’t forget. I cannot wait until til I come back to this resort.

    Not the best expeirence

    Came with a large group. My 1st room was on the family side and faced construction with constant banging. Changed to and upgraded to Rm 2 which smelled of mildew. I was charged for an upgrade, although other members in my group was upgraded for free. Changed to Rm 3 which was much smaller than Rm 2, yet I was not refunded anything. Butler service is a joke. They need to revisit what butler service is. There was a swim up bar at the family pool and no swim up for adults only pool. Some of the employees were rude dismissive and could care less about any issues. Especially some at the front desk, one of which told us we could write what we want for a review. She did not seem to care less. There were mildew issues throughout the resort and that includes the pool/beach furniture. The floors were constantly slippery due to moisture. That includes the floors in the room. Parts of the resort looks more rundown than it 5 years. There were no attempts made to clean up the seaweed on the beach. The food was meh, except the Japanese restaurant, which was pretty good, and most of the buffet food was good. The steak restaurant was not too bad. The resort served imitation ketchup. Just no! I could go on, but I do not think they could care less.
