  Good resort but not many vegetarian options and amenities.

  Resort was good, clean and rooms were good. Swimming pool was good . But few major drawbacks at resort 1. Bathrooms and shower in the rooms does not have locks. 2. Vegetarian or Vegan Options are not much in Buffet. Food is repetitive everyday. 3.Food not labeled for any vegetarian or allergies. 4. Staff at buffet cannot speak English so food cannot we verified for ingredients or allergies. 5.There is no fast food or quick bites place in the resort. 6. Only one sweet treat shop which closes at 7 pm 7.Bowling place was paid service. 8. No tennis , pickle ball or basketball ball courts. 8. No classes for adults 9.Staff does not speak English which is a hassle. 10.Room Service is slow. On checkout day they would not send room service.

  The hotel is beautiful, the food is very good and the employees are very friendly and helpful! Pikachu pokemon from the entertainment is very nice and brings joy!

  Excellent stay

  This was a very nice stay. The hotel is very close to the airport so you do not waste a lot of time getting to and from the airport to the hotel The resort itself is beautiful. There are many lush gardens and the details of the resort are phenomenal. The room that we had was clean and spacious. It was a swim out room, but the water was way too cold to really enjoy the pool. I would skip this if I were to return. The room did feel a bit damp and humid. It may have to do with the location of the room as it did not get much wind and it was on the ground floor. The food was hit or miss. French and Mediterranean were excellent. Mexican and Italian were forgettable. The buffet was average at best. The Unique Club food was the best but had the least selection. Jose Antonio was an excellent butler and was attentive to our needs. I would suggest unique club for the beach bar/restaurant as well as the beach area. There was never a problem finding a lounger in this area. The resort is huge and the boulevard provides a nice walking space as well as bars and places to eat The kids area is also far away from the main resort which was nice as it gave the kids a place where they could run around and scream without being a major issue for the rest of the guests. You will like this resort and have a good time here. I would certainly return.

  Another Great Visit!

  this was our 2nd time and had a fabulous time. Already planning our return visit. Jimmy was our butler, who was fantastic. Always made sure we knew what was happening on the resort each day and what reservations he had. After a few days, we decided we wanted to extend our visit here for another week. The reservation manager, Willie, was extremely helpful and ensured we were able to stay in the same room.

  Price Increase After Check in

  We just returned from a family vacation at the Lopesan Costa Bavaro. We had 12 family members on this trip for Christmas. Here is the good, the bad and the ugly from our week. I will start with the ugly because this really caught us off guard as regular travellers. THE UGLY: Expedia bookings with kids be very very aware. We feel scammed. The price increase at the front desk happened to us… and they are beyond intimidating. We did the pre check in and then we checked in at the lobby normally with the front desk. The next day we got a phone call to come to the front desk. They told us we had made a mistake and booked an infant and not a child. We checked our Expedia booking which clearly shows a child and his age. They would not look at the reservation they said you must pay extra, now. This wasn’t a small amount they were asking for. We tried to resolve it nicely, as this clearly must be a misunderstanding. They would not even listen to the words we were speaking. All they say is pay now, pay and pay while shaking their heads at us a saying there is no other option, no way to resolve and nobody to talk to. We asked for managers, for 2 days and we were told they were away! We finally got someone who they claimed was a manager and she said she would look into it and call us the next day. She never called, but the front desk called demanding payment and claiming we never spoke to a manager. We called Expedia, who are amazing. They tried endlessly to call the hotel, we watched them ignore the calls! Finally after 2 days and hours of talks we finally got them to talk to Expedia. No use, Expedia said they talk in circles. Expedia said to pay the difference and they will reimburse us so we don’t waste our entire vacation on this. Through our initial talk with the front desk, they admitted this happens ALL the time with child bookings on Expedia…. Yet they don’t fix it. They have a grid system at the front desk for all the different payment increase, they are not the advertised prices and we were not the only ones having an issue. In the end, our room with a child and an adult cost more than the room with two adults as they have their own rates at the front desk. Very very sketchy. We have travelled a lot and love going to different islands. We have never experienced this total lack of customer service as we did at Lopesan. We just got back yesterday, and we will be following up with Expedia and Lopesan head office, but I was too scared to do anything while there. We were at the resort with our entire group and I really tried to look past the front desk situation and try to salvage the remaining 4 days of our Christmas vacation. THE BAD: there are a few things that would not be deal breakers to me, but I think travellers to a so called 5 star resort should know. The rooms: the A/C is either on like you are in a freezer or it does not work. The little control panel in the room did not work in any of our 6 rooms. The shower doors basically open into the hallway. If someone opens the door at the wrong time, you are exposed to the hall. Multiple room booking location. We booked two rooms together. They put us on different floors. My sister had 3 rooms in her reservation and they were put in all different buildings! We tried to call multiple times and emailed them prior to coming to try and avoid this issue, but nobody ever answered the phone and the email was a generic response. There is a lot of walking, no mobility aids. Bring comfy shoes. I like to walk, so I enjoyed the size of the resort. Check your doors. Our room door appeared locked, but if you pushed the door with a little extra pressure it would open. Maintenance can fix it. The nightly shows are very loud, bring earplugs… I’m glad someone warned me. All adults in our group did get some form of gastrointestinal issue during the week. We are not sure what caused it. It ranged from mild to moderate illness and lasting a 1-4 days. THE GOOD: The hotel itself is beautiful and the bar and restaurant staff were mostly super friendly. I have to say besides the front desk, I was pleasantly surprised by the friendliness of everyone. The beach is great and lots of chairs and umbrellas for shade. They do get taken very early. So do not sleep in if you want a chair. The week we were there, over Christmas, there was a lot of seaweed both in the water and piled on the beach. Most days the staff cleaned the beach, but for 3 of the 7 days we were there, they barely touched it. Food variety is good, quality ranging from average to good. The main buffet has a lot of variety. They take food allergies seriously. We even had the chef come out to double check. Overall: Although the property is beautiful, I would not go back. The resort felt like a lot of smoke and mirrors. On the surface it looks god, but there are some underlying issues which make me feel uneasy when visiting.
