Not all 5 star resorts are created equally
Here is our review for Secrets Moxche-roots of a tree! This is going to be a very difficult review to write……I’m so torn on what direction it should go, but here it is. When you first drive in, it gives off Jurassic park vibes. Then when you get out of the car, it is lush with beautiful landscape and the view of the ocean. The entrance and main lobby are stunning and well crafted. Check in was simple enough and we were on our way. We then headed to lunch at Seasoul after a quick check in because the rooms weren’t ready. Which is always the case and never bothers us because we pack sunscreen, sandals and our bathing suits to change into after plane. Lunch was very good, although a very limited menu, our waiter Jhonathan was great! We had guacamole, ceviche and some tacos. Then we headed to the pool to find absolutely not one pool chair. After quite a while of searching on our own we finally got 2 chairs and then waited 45 minutes for a drink. There was only one waitress working the entire main pool. They only have some chairs with cushions so make sure you get them because the other ones are beyond uncomfortable. They do not have enough chairs for the amount of amount of guests at the resort, And the wait service at the pool is honestly the worst we ever had at a five star resort. You either have to go in the water to the pool bar, or hope a waiter comes by. Also they do not offer any pool services until 10am. It was 95 degrees outside and we asked for water, the answer was oh no I’m sorry not till 10am. That was just baffling to us. Let me add in, the will not give you bottle of water at the pool chair because of environmental reasons they told us, however they have bottles of water in the room. Explain that one?! Honestly, at 5 star resorts that provide elevated service, “no” is not something you should hear often when making simple requests. You can hold your chair in the morning, however, they will take you’re stuff away and off the chairs if you are gone for more then an hour. Which makes absolutely no sense because if you’re in the pool and you’re not in your chair, they don’t bother you. They make sure to tell everyone this and honestly, it gave me anxiety. I was worried if I went to eat or went into the pool my stuff would be taken and I would lose my spot. Couldn’t relax. The pools were all very hot in temperature but it’s July and I don’t think there is much they can do about that. Not to mention there is no ac in the women’s pool bathroom, and it’s so dark inside you can’t see! I found it difficult to get a good drink, even a simple spicy margarita frozen. They also didn’t have fruit to add to the drinks which I always think is a nice touch. Once we got our room, we were beyond pleasantly surprised. We did have some issues in the room, our toilet room door was broken and they told us it could not be fixed and they are having issues in many rooms in the resort and they are working on it. My opinion, one of the nicest rooms we have ever stayed in. The entire resort is beautiful, Along with the spa. However, we were very upset because even though we paid for our 50 minute couples massage for 460 Dollars, you cannot use the spa amenities unless you get an 80 minute massage. And all the other resorts we go to, they give you hydro therapy with your stay. The massage itself was fabulous! We loved our masseuses!!! Reina was amazing. The day we arrived it was 4th of July. We were surprised to see that Mexico was celebrating our america! lol They had the Lincoln monument, the Washington monument and the Statue of Liberty. Along with a huge sign that read 4th July USA! They had a special buffet. You sit on the lagoon beach and listen to a band playing on the stage across the lagoon. It was $150 to $300 a person. However, if you didn’t pay, you can still eat the food and just not have anywhere to sit! You can not make dinner reservations except the hibachi restaurant which is inside the sushi restaurant. It’s just a bar seat, not a typical square table. Just mentioning because if your in a group, you are looking straight and can’t interact with your friends. Every restaurant is a wait of at least an hour. If you tell me I can’t make a reservation, then make sure the restaurants have enough availability to seat guests. It’s insane! The air conditioning is not great in any restaurant at all, But again all beautiful. The food was good, I don’t have much to complain about that. Well besides the pool food choices at lunch! They have a sports bar, also not air conditioned well. The drinks are just mediocre at best. The best part for me was they had a drink menu with 8 drinks on them and told us they can’t make 3 of those drinks. At the sushi restaurant, they didn’t have any drinks available on their drink menu at all! I mean that’s just unacceptable. The pool bar had taps for Dos Equis but they weren’t working. There are rocks along the entire walkway of resort, not compliant for heels at all. Even in my flat sandals and sneakers it was not comfortable to walk on. Ladies, pack accordingly! The app is horrible, it’s slow and doesn’t work most of the time, and our iPad in room had to be replaced because that was also not working. It still didn’t work because it turned out to be the charging dock. Gym has new treadmills but only 7 of them so I made sure to get there very early and no bottles of water. They don’t have workout classes except spin, and that’s just not my thing. Not to mention it’s at like 6am! We did do water aerobics with Christian and that was fun, He was very energetic and he even went out of the way to get us seats for the show at night. The shows were entertaining, but I mean I could see why people would say they were not great because at other resorts they have a lot more variety. They had karaoke in the dark horse bar, always fun in my opinion. They have people singing during the day and night but low key. No DJ at the pool, so if you’re looking for more of a party vibe, this is not your place. They do however have a speak easy, but it’s a club inside. They call it a speakeasy because you need a password to get in and the front of it is a pharmacy. Let me make sure I explain that me and my fiance go to Mexico every 3-4 months and have been at many resorts. So we are comparing to be fair! We have very high standards when it comes to 5 star resorts. But to be clear, not all 5 star resorts are created equally. To summarize this marathon of a review, it is fair to say that Secrets Moxché is a stunning property. The attention to detail, architecture and upkeep are wonderful. The food was delicious! The drinks missed the mark. The pool service was I’m sorry to say some of the worst we have experienced. The restaurant wait time was not something we expected or appreciated however the restaurant service was wonderful. Breakfast buffet was one of the best we have had and the nightly taco stand was a great touch! Like I said before, “no” is not something we hear often when traveling to a five star resort in Mexico. In all fairness, we did voice some of our issues with the resort and they made every effort to elevate our experience and we were very thankful for their effort. It’s a great resort. But if you enjoy the higher end of the five star realm like us, then maybe impressions is the way to go. We didn’t know about it until we got there and I think we would have been better suited there.

Secrets Moxché Is Next-Level 🌴✨
Truly Unforgettable! Our stay at Secrets Moxché Playa del Carmen was nothing short of phenomenal. This adults-only, all-inclusive resort is a dream—luxurious, beautifully designed, and perfectly relaxing—but what made our trip truly unforgettable was the incredible staff. I had a really great time at the resort’s bike ride with Cristian and Regina—fun, engaging, and educational. This was more than a bike ride, it was an educational experience. Highly recommend! If you love a little friendly competition, don’t miss beach or pool volleyball. Sergio, Felix, Monica, and Aranza made every match fun and inclusive. Their enthusiasm is contagious! A little advice: take your rings off before playing, or you'll delay the game as everyone searches. 🤦♂️ A huge thank you to Daniela, who was not only kind and welcoming throughout our stay, but also an awesome caddy! I really enjoying the golf simulator in the Dark Horse bar. Dani knew what she was doing, even though she claims to never play golf. By the way, I'm still trying to finish my Mysterious Places book. It's so much harder to read back in the real world. 👎 And of course, a big shout-out to the sunshine crew: Julio, Gaby, Jessica, Miguel, and Felix. As you can see from my pictures, they brought the sun every day! They were always willing to stop and chat. Miguel Castaneda, if you’re reading this: your staff is the heart of Secrets Moxché. They’re world-class and deserve a raise—seriously, make it happen today! They go above and beyond in every way. 😉 Our concierge, Omar, was also super extraordinary! The check-ins really made us feel like royalty. If we needed anything, Omar was there to assist. We can’t recommend Secrets Moxché enough. If you’re looking for a luxury escape filled with fun, relaxation, and truly exceptional people, this is the place. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Beautiful aesthetics with first-class service, but meh drinks and food
Our stay at Secrets Moxché was a memorable one, thanks to the stunning property and the incredible hospitality. From the moment we arrived, we were struck by the beauty of the resort — modern, elegant, and immaculately maintained. The real standout, though, was the staff. Every single person we interacted with was warm, professional, and genuinely welcoming. Even the behind-the-scenes maintenance workers, who often go unnoticed at many resorts, took the time to greet us with a smile or a friendly “hola.” That says a lot about the culture of service here. The accommodations were top-tier, offering excellent comfort and a peaceful retreat from the world. This is where Secrets Moxché really delivers — a luxurious, relaxing atmosphere with a staff that truly cares about your experience. That said, there were a couple of areas that could use improvement. The food, while presented beautifully, lacked variety and familiar flavor profiles. If you're looking for bold, diverse culinary experiences, you may find the options a bit limited. The drinks, too, were consistently on the weak side — likely intentional given the all-inclusive nature — but it was noticeable across every bar on the property. If the drinks were priced individually, I don't think we would have bought any after the first day Overall, if you value upscale accommodations and genuinely kind service, Secrets Moxché is a great choice. Just come prepared for a more laid-back food and beverage experience.

Amazing Girls Trip 2025!
I can't believe it has been 2 weeks since I was at Secrets Moxché in Playa del Carmen with 13 other ladies! This is a fabulous adult only resort with great food and drink choices for everyone. They can handle food allergies, have many Vegan options and great Mocktails too! We were spoiled with the service and got to enjoy some relaxation and FUN! I have had the pleasure of vacationing at this beautiful all-inclusive resort twice and I would definitely stay here again. I also want to mention Elideth and Grisel in food & beverage and Jacobo along with the entire staff in the Preferred Club, who provided excellent customer service during our amazing vacation!
