    Very happy with our experience

Can't beat the location right across the street from the beach and by the famous Duke statue. We were lucky to be upgraded to a room with an ocean view and that makes a lot of difference. The room was good sized and the beds/pillows were comfortable. Shower/bathroom was good size and loved having the heated toilet seat and bidet features. Each floor has a ice machine and water spigot which was great for filling water bottles and coolers. All staff we encountered (especially Joe at the front desk) was fantastic and very accommodating. Loved having a car rental place right on site plus the shuttle bus for Polynesian Cultural Center picks up right outside the hotel. They let you check out towels, beach chairs and boogie boards for free which was awesome (starting at 7:30am). We really loved our stay and were so glad we booked this for 2 nights before our NCL cruise and two nights afterwards. Only slight negatives are the slow elevators which can be annoying and parking is $60/night for self parking, $70/night for valet. We didn't try any of the food onsite so can't comment. There is a food truck area right next to hotel that we did try and enjoyed. So many options dining options close by that you don't need to eat in the hotel. Our favorites were Liliha Bakery for a full service breakfast in the International Marketplace and Maui Brewing.

    OK experience

Overall, this hotel was nice. We had a King room with the view of the ocean which was beautiful. But the hotel was extremely crowded. Elevators were horribly slow. We waited more than 5 minutes for the elevators every time we needed to go up or down. The food at the SWIM Restaurant on the 3rd floor was not good at all. Service was very slow for dinner. The last thing is that we requested a late check-out (original check out was 11AM). It seems they were just doing us a favor by giving us only 1 hour extra which was very disappointing. We have stayed at many large hotels and smaller hotels and have always been able to get late check out of 2 hours. If we ever come back to Waikiki in the future, we will not be staying at this hotel.

    Busy time but fun

They were kind and gave us a free upgrade to an oceanfront room. Glad it was only on a lower level as the lifts were quite often out of order or very slow. They opened the service list to help. It was very hard to find the lift to get up to the check-in counter and we had to struggle with the luggage up the escalator.

    A wonderful, convenient family vacation

We always have a wonderful time at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki, and it continues to be our go-to spot when visiting Oahu. As a Hyatt Globalist, the value here is exceptional with complimentary valet parking and Regency Club lounge access. The location is unbeatable. The hotel sits right across from Waikiki Beach, and Hyatt provides beach chairs and towels free of charge. I also enjoyed that we can walk over to the International Marketplace and dozens of other restaurants and shops. For families, the convenience is hard to overstate. This visit we didn't take part in the cultural activities, but on a previous stay, our kids loved making lei flower rings. The programs are casual and kid-friendly, great for low-key afternoons. What truly sets this hotel apart is the staff. Even though this is a large, convention-style property, there's a genuine warmth with everyone who helped us. Saori at the front desk was welcoming and thorough. Bryan always greets us warmly at the SHOR breakfast, and our kids adore the server Tessa, who consistently goes the extra mile to ensure they have the right plasticware. My little one looked up to Mr. Dale as her hero as she is terrified of the pigeons and he manages to keep them away during breakfast with his presence. The new wristband room keys were a game-changer, especially when going back and forth between the beach and the pool. It was a relief not to worry about carrying (or losing) a keycard. The lounge snacks and evening bites are among the best offerings we've experienced at a Regency Club domestically. I don't recall this from our last visit but this time, each floor has a water and ice station, making it super convenient. The gym is adequate. And it has Peloton bikes. Valet is prompt (usually 10 to 16 minutes) and Frank always welcomes us back with a smile after a long day out. To be fair, I have to say that HR Waikiki isn't the best fit for everyone. There's no direct elevator from the ground floor to the guest floors. You'll need to take one elevator to the spa level, then take the tower elevator to the room. This is definitely not ideal for strollers or wheelchairs. We easily have to wait 5 to 10 minutes each day when we go up to the room. A couple times the staff even opened up the staff elevator to get the crowd through quicker. The pool is quite small for a hotel of this size. That said, we always found open chairs, and with the beach right across the street, we didn't mind. Being in the heart of Waikiki, the hotel isn't exactly quiet. Expect to hear music, sirens, or street noise depending on your room and sensitivity. It didn't bother us, but lighter sleepers may want to bring earplugs. This isn't a secluded honeymoon resort, but it's perfect for families. You won't be greeted with leis and coconut drinks, but you will find a warm, consistent, reliable home base with thoughtful touches and a fantastic team. Hot tip: the ABC Store on the 3rd floor lets you charge purchases to your room, an easy way to earn more Hyatt points if you're loyal like us! We're already looking forward to our next stay. Mahalo to the whole Hyatt Regency Waikiki team for making us feel at home every time.
