    Honeymoon Experience 2024 - A lovely time

Me and my husband went to this hotel during our honeymoon from 29th April until 11th May. We were in the Hideaway in Room 1212. Not going to lie, when reading the reviews I was quite nervous due to some older reviews saying it wasn't clean/personal items were messed with in the rooms etc. I can safely say (in my own experience) we didn't experience any issues with cleanliness or cleaners messing with our personal things. CHECK-IN: We didn't arrive at the hotel until about 6pm at night, and the check in at the Hideaway.... was longer than I expected due to the Hideaway having its own check-in. So after a 10 hour flight and wanting to get into our suitcases to freshen up, I wasn't too pleased at this. Once we were checked in, we were told how to find our Hideaway room, which we got lost. We did have our suitcases delivered to our room which was brilliant. ROOM: The room on first impression was really clean. I'm a slight clean freak so I take my own anti-bac wipes and stuff and I always do a swipe of the floor with a wipe and it came back completely clean. The bedding was fresh and the rest of the room was really nice and welcoming. The view from the balcony however, was atrocious. HOTEL IN GENERAL: The hotel is stunning. The way the hotel is set out is really good and I like how after our evening meal there was enough resort to be able to have a good walk around. Hammocks dotted about the resort, the restaurants were spread out and a good variety of bars. The hotel was undergoing renovations whilst we were there (Mainly around the Hideaway pool) but I really didn't notice this going on as I was too occupied with the pool, reading, napping, chatting to people in the pool etc. Obviously we could hear the works going on, but its got to be done at some point and we didn't find it bothersome at all. The tipping within the resort is a joke though (I'm from the UK so we are NOT used to this tipping culture). As you can imagine, there were LOTSSSS of Americans in the resort who were just constantly tipping, and I did find this a little over whelming at the start. Be prepared for the expense of the shops inside the hotel. The little trinket shop where you can get your usual magnets/tequila/etc are very reasonable and we bought some beautiful things, but I needed some antihistamines and the price of them were $30+ when in the UK they would cost £3. I had to ask around our pool if anyone had any, to which a lovely lady on the bed next to us did... thankfully! FOOD: The food was really nice. Buffet, just the usual standard buffet but with all the usual Mexican cuisines. The lunch buffet was nice, burgers made in front of you etc. The restaurants on the resort were nice too. The Tepanyaki is a go to! it was BRILLIANT. We wished we had gone more times it was that good. The Italian is lovely. The Mexican restaurant wasn't that good in my opinion. STAFF: The staff couldn't do enough for you. Every single staff member who we passed always greeted us, made light conversation, asked if they could do anything. There was a slight issue in/around our room for a couple of nights where we were getting woken up every day at 4:30/5am and we did complain at the Hideaway desk where one of the management came to see us. He obviously apologised and said he would investigate this and come and find us around the pool - Which he did. He said the room above us, the fly mesh had come loose and due to the wind it was banging against the glass and he is getting it repaired. It did seem to solve the issue. The only other thing I would say that we was a little annoyed at, was the hotel/staff we spoke to/Hideaway reception woman knew it was our honeymoon and after 2 promises of something for our honeymoon we never got it. Despite other people around The Hideaway pool having towels put down near their beds with sand written as 'Mr and Mrs... Happy honeymoon' we never got that so that kind of irked me slightly. HIDEAWAY: We were SO GLAD we booked the Hideaway. The perfect little sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of the main hotel..... NO CHILDREN! The activities which were put on everyday were good light hearted fun, such as: Coconut painting, Quizes in the pool, standard pool workouts, drink making, Guacamole making etc. The music was actually good and it was just a chilled atmosphere. We met some really nice people here. Jose who worked around the pool giving out drinks etc, deserves a special special mention as he was BRILLIANT. He really made our Honeymoon. No matter where we were in the pool/round the pool, he always shouted us to see if we were OK for drinks, his shoes were off and into the shallow part of the pool delivering our drinks, always up for a chat and he was just so lovely and deserved every single tip we gave him. TRIPS OUT: We had pre-booked our excursions so we booked Chichen Itza and a Riviera Maya Jungle buggy experience. The Chichen Itza tour picked us up directly from the hotel but the Jungle buggy we had to meet down in Playa Del Carmen. When we arrived on our first day I asked the bellboy how much a taxi would be to arrange (one way!!!) into Playa Del Carmen to which he said $100. I nearly collapsed. I asked him is this both way he said no and i would have to arrange transport back whilst in Riviera Maya and it could be even more than that to get back to the hotel after our trip out. Unfortunately we had to cancel our excursion as we just didn't want to waste possibly $200+ on transport. I was kind of shocked as we wanted to have a trip into Cancun but couldn't risk the price of the fare on the way back. BUT definitely book excursions out, there are some amazing places to see and glad we did Chichen Itza, although the heat nearly killed me off!! CHECK OUT: Checkout was a shambles and the lady on reception needs to have a better attitude as it felt to us as if she couldn't be bothered and due to us leaving, it kind of felt we were pushed out, no enthusiasm, didn't ask us how our trip was. It was literally... pay your room fees, cut off the wristband and goodbye. I would really recommend this hotel. Its stunning and the views from the lobby are amazing. The beach is stunning too (slight seaweed and no shells :( ) but the walk up and down the beach is a nice walk to do. The water was like getting into a warm bath.

    You can do better

This is the honest truth. I say that because reviews are sometimes hard to take seriously because people can make a big deal about the smallest thing. But as far as this resort... its just not up to par. The pools are great, the beach is nice too. The lobby is big, open and spacious. The night entertainment was good. But thats about it. The housekeeping is not good. No wash clothes in our room upon check-in... not a big deal. The problem came when I called for towels and couldn't get any for hours... then they finally told me they "didnt have any clean washcloths" couldnt get any til the next morning. The room it self was dreary, dated, dingy, dark, damp. And i dont mean regular beachfront hotel damp. Im talking the sheets felt wet... as if you could literally squeeze water out. The sheets were dirty, literally stained. The linen had the overall look of linen that is supposed to be white, but more so grey because its old and time to be replaced. I guess the buffet options were to be expected at an all inclusive, but the food was sometimes cold, and often needing to be refilled. The hallways leading to the rooms where also dark and dingy, walking to my room all I could think was "this isnt a good impression" The SMELL. It stinks at this resort. No kidding. I had a mangrove facing room. Im not certain if the smell is actually coming from the mangrove because when i stepped on the balcony I didnt smell anything. But when i turned on the water, stepped in the shower, walked around the resort, I could smell it. It seemed like sewage, coming from the drains. The service is not good. Their is no service at the pool. No one to take a drink order, at least not on the regular side, maybe the Diamond club has that. U have to go get your own drinks, but one day, they told me one of the pool bars were closed. Which meant i had to walk the swim up bar, get in the pool, swim up, order my drink, get out, and walk back to my seat... The buffet server wouldnt even take away the finished plates, so we just had plates stacked everywhere. We nearly had to beg him to refill our drinks and bring cutlery. Then we had a timeshare salesman trying to haggle us to sit for a presentation... all we wanted to donwas enjoy our vacation. This place is good for like a family reunion where u have to accommodate different budgets and need a lot of space with low expectations. Its akind to a 3 star property. Think of your local older Holiday Inn, just with a nice pool and decent Beach, and a sewage problem.

Not 5 star, not luxury, not worth your time. Be warned

The minute you come in, you are given a buzzer and shuffled to the lobby area to wait to be checked in. That entire 90-minute wait, I was pestered non-stop about upgrades and signing up for the diamond club. The dude was giving me the hard sell about saving money on excursions and getting money off at other participating locations. I do not give one iota of a sh$# about your exclusive club. Guy was not professional at all and acted all butthurt when I said I didn't want to do the time share-esque seminar. Boy, am I glad I did not sign up because the service is atrocious. We are then told where our room is and promised our bag will be there. It was not. And they gave us the wrong room with two full beds instead of a king. AND they did not make it right in any manner. AND we have to check out of our room at 11am, schlep our bags for the day, then check back into the right room at 4pm. Watered down bad tasting drinks and very bad food. I do not recommend the restaurants. The buffet at least shows you what you are about to eat. My daughter also got food poisoning the first day here, and the front desk did not care at all. Useless. Told us there was a store to get fever meds but did not tell me where. Found the store and tried to ring up a bag of chips, a couple bottles of Gatorade, and tylenol. $83 for that. This place does not give one crap about customer service and cuts corners at every turn. Apathetic staff and pathetic everything else. You would think for nearly $1k per night in a developing country, there would be some nice features to this resort. Exterior deck sliding doors do not lock and general overall lack of repairs/general disrepair. I also want to add that the following morning, it rained, and there were multiple puddles in the buffet dining area from leaks. The water from the ceiling even got on my food! Do not waste your time, your money, your health, your sanity, or your dignity to come here.
