May 17, 2025Horrible Family Vacation
This is my second time at Royalton. I first came in 2021 and had a positive experience so I decided to come back for a family vacation. Well…it was a family vacation from hell. Where do I even start? There were cockroaches in the pool….how disgusting is that?! On the fourth day, my 2 year old contracted hand, foot, mouth which I later learned that this resort has had outbreaks and issues containing the virus and do not have proper sanitation. You can google HFM and Royalton to read all about it. We paid extra for the Diamond Club and weren’t even able to get higher tier alcohol from the lobby and show bars in the evening. The workers were trying to make money off of us by telling us it would be an extra $5 even though we were told it was included in our Diamond Club package. When we brought this up to Diamond Club…they told us to get the names of the bartenders as they would in the wrong but it continued to happen over and over. They are definitely short staffed…there were 2 bartenders for 40 + people so it would take over 30 minutes to get a drink and there were hardly staff walking around during the day and night to take drink orders. The elevator was constantly broken which made it difficult for my family as we had a stroller. The buffet restaurant smelled like a bathroom…we would walk in and immediately lose our appetite because who wants to eat in that smell? I came back for a second time because my experience in 2021 was good so I’m not sure what happened to this hotel for it to became absolute garbage. It’s so disappointing that we waited over 1 year for this family vacation and were very excited only to experience what we did. I would strongly advise against coming here unless major changes occur. Marriott has a lot of work on their hands as this hotel is reminiscent of a motel.

They made my anniversary super special, José, Eduardo, and Francisco were super wonderful. They took the time to make a magical dinner experience for us. If you are ever fortunate enough to have this staff serve you, you are definitely going to have a wonderful experience. They made us feel like family.

Great place to vacation
Came for a wedding. Was so pleasantly surprised! Food was delicious and there were so many options. Loads of pools and staff kept it spotless. Rooms very very clean and well supplied with shower products and towels. Staff was always helpful. It's worth upgrading your room to poolside or Oceanview because that really was special. I would definitely return and feel comfortable recommending this resort!

Do not book this hotel
Very tired and dirty hotel, unhelpful staff who don’t care and say it’s not their job, dirty floors in the morning from dinner from night before, broken tiles, poor level of food and drinks in all restaurants and bars, Not a 5 star hotel over priced , the cheapest of local drinks and food Most of the food in the restaurants is unedable or cold, the wait in the restaurants for your meal is over an hour if you can make a reservation at all, was upgraded to diamond when we arrived with our party of 10 as we were getting married on the beach, what a waste of time as we never seen or heard from a butler all the time we stayed at the hotel , again when asked about the butler in the diamond resort reception a very rude receptionist said it wasn’t her problem, there seems to be a mentality at the hotel that no one actually cares , spend your money at a different hotel

Josefat made our trip special
This review is for a mixologist name Josefat who usually is posted with a liqour cart in the lobby for welcome drinks. We met him at the steakhouse where they asked him to come make a VIP Executive a drink while he dined. While Josefat was there making that gentleman a drink near our dinner table, he asked us if we wanted a specialty drink as well. I’m so happy we said yes because it was the best drink in the entire resort and made my friend’s bday dinner special! He’s a master at his craft and deserves all the praise!
