Looking forward to our 5th stay!
The best in Cancun. Stayed here many time with the family. If you are looking all things great, look no more. This resort has everything and some more. Our kids loved it so much they is like their vacation home. Too bad we couldn’t go this year because of the virus. Excellent service, awesome food, great onsite gym and AM yoga. Daily evening entertainment and more.
In my last review, 2 years ago, I was singing accolades to this place, as the best thing, since sliced bread... It turns out, that in 2 years paradise can indeed be lost - this place is now a never-ending theatre of tragedy. WARNING: this will be a long winded review, not for the faint of heart. I don't even know where to start, with every that's now wrong with this hotel, and was wrong with our stay. In no particular order: Diamond Club is a waste of money - it seems that when hotel employees see Diamond Club bracelets, it is an invitation to be extra rude to you, and extra useless. When we've stayed at the regular section, 2 years ago, the employees were much nicer. On the second day, I found a finger nail in my burger - ugh. The Diamond Club section is supposed to be nice and quiet, great for families, etc - guess what - super loud party in the court yard, with our windows vibrating, until 23:00! Multiple calls to the concierge, asking at least to lower the volume, were met with bleating about how he doesn't know when the party will end. Most of the families staying in the area had small children, at the time of my stay, so this makes absolutely no sense - the hotel has a responsibility to allow for these things in their room distribution process. People were getting drunk at an alarming rate, with drunk people screaming profanities from their balconies. I wouldn't be surprised to see and hear this in downtown Cancun, during March break, with frathouse outings, but not at a supposedly 5 star resort, in a supposedly "upgraded" section. One day I've discovered someone had urinated in the building elevator, during the drunk revelries of the night before - this was at 8:30 in the morning!!!! There is NO excuse, for this not to have been discovered and cleaned by then. I had to literally grab passing staff to alert them to this fact. There's absolutely ZERO service in the Diamond Club pool area - wait staff make sure to ignore you. Mind you, I speak fluent Spanish, so I get things done much faster, and in this instance it wasn't a language barrier, but rather lack of desire on anyone's part, to do anything that is a part of their job description. We constantly had to ask for things, which should happen without asking - want to have breakfast in the Diamond Club section? Ask for it (ignoring the fact that we are wearing clearly different bracelets). Want to have drinks in your room restocked? Ask for it. Want anything? Ask for it. Things have to be offered at an accommodation of this level, and this used to be the case, as late as 2 years ago - no more. The cooking show became super short (I don't care, but it's interesting to see that they've cut it literally in half, compared to our previous visit, when we've gone to the cooking show twice). The taste of food has greatly decreased, the quality of products did too (i.e. steaks are now full of fat - you can clearly see that they've switched to the cheapest cuts). Most alcoholic drinks are clearly diluted (you can literally see it, aside from tasting it - either cut with cheaper alcohol, or literally has water added to it). Room service deserves a separate mention - the supposedly exclusive Diamond Club food tastes worse than something awful from a small time food court. They use fancy names, but the taste and the presentation are simply awful - they really don't match the photos in any way, and over half of the ordered items weren't present (super simple items like cheese and salmon, which they had plenty of, in the buffet, the same evening - they obviously don't have a separate/exclusive kitchen for room service, so this is complete nonsense). Witnessed a cleanup operation on the beach - guys were kicking garbage around (literally). There are still some employees who go out of their way to help you - unfortunately they are a minority, and they conceded that most of their colleagues don't want to put an effort into their jobs, anymore. One of the last straws was an argument (yes, an actual loud argument, were language barrier, once again, was NOT an issue - they couldn't play the bad English card) with butler and maintenance over replacing the battery in our door lock - it was low, and we kept being locked out of our room. The butler went as far as insulting my wife, suggesting she is drunk (!!!) and trying to enter the wrong room (this is after no less than 4 requests to replace the battery). After all this, a maintenance guy finally conceded that the battery needs to be replaced. I didn't want to sit quietly, so I brought all of this up to the management - just to be promptly ignored. I've requested a meeting with the GM or at least deputy GM, and the latter did not show up to our meeting, having her card passed to me by a line manager, saying I should email her. Email doesn't help - in another life, I'd go out of my way to get a refund for this disaster of a stay. We've spoken to multiple other people, who were on their second plus visit, and everyone had shared an identical sentiment, that this place has gone downhill, beyond recovery. Never again, and I strongly suggest you stay as far away from this place, as possible.
watch out for travel smart vip

Amazing resort and best holiday so far
I can honestly say that this resort is the best that we have stayed at so far and out of everywhere we have travelled, this is the only resort that we would return to. We normally like to go somewhere once and then try a different country/location but actually we had such a good time here and the staff and surroundings were so amazing that we are actually looking to come back as soon as we can. We travelled as a family of 2 adults and 2 children aged 4 and 2 and it honestly was perfect for all of us. Plenty for the kids to do, plenty for us grown ups and generally all round lovely resort. The food was excellent at all the restaurants we visited, our favourites being the Italian and Mexican restaurants but even the buffet food was good quality which usually isnt the case. We always stay in 5 star resorts but there is usually something lacking in the buffet department but the Royaltoin really didnt disappoint, I also loved the coffee shop, despite not drinking coffee, they do amazing smoothies and the Coconut Mango was incredible. The pools were lovely. We preferred the quieter one between the kids pool and the italian restaurant as this was near our room, meant we could take the kids in the kids part and come back at any time and it wasnt too noisy or energetic like some of the others but if it was just us as a couple we definitely would have been joining in the pool parties/entertainment around the other pools. Staff were fantastic. Carlos at the Italian and Xavier at the buffet were excellent and were really great the whole fortnight. Will definitely head back at some point, hopefully soon.
Hand, foot and mouth disease outbreak and staff robbed us
My first time in Mexico ... I heard a lot of positive reviews of this resort. Unfortunately it was a mostly negative experience for my family. Staff, while friendly, definitely were NOT trustworthy. Management didn't seem to care about our concerns. We had our personal effects stolen poolside by our server (later confirmed on video). The server was fired after an investigation by security (or so we were told). The amenities were in good shape although the personal "concierge" was useless. They would often forget your requests and certainly it wasn't worth the extra costs for the upgraded service. Food was good for the most part. Overall I wouldn't recommend this resort and certainly wouldn't ever return to this Royalton.
