Appreciating the underground caves is not just for swimmers. Enjoying their beauty is possible from wood benches terraced into the walls.

    Great stay at Grotto Bay

I went to grotto bay with my fiancé and we had a great vacation. Property: well maintained, beautifully landscaped and clean. The view across the bay is the airport but you barely hear the planes come in and the view of the water is still great. The beach is smaller, especially when the tide is up but lots of chairs but there wasn’t many people at the resort while we were there. Rooms: clean, spacious, soaps and conditioners provided, soft towels and VERY comfortable bed and pillows. We stayed at Oceanview on the right of the property and the views were great with a balcony. Staff: Everyone was friendly and attentive. Kionne at the bar was personable. Dario in the dining hall was funny and a great waiter - enjoyed his stories. Entertainment: It was either their slow season and they don’t do bigger night shows until it picks up but this was really the only thing this hotel was lacking that we are use to at All Inclusives. The comedian was funny Sunday night and there was a historian one night and we missed the dance party on the weekend. Pool: it was too cold for the pool when we were here but they have a jacuzzi that is nice and hot when the weather isn’t! We did two days at the jacuzzi. If the weather was warmer the swim up bar would have been great. Food: one of the best resorts for food. Did the breakfast and lunch buffets and they only had one of two restaurants open and the food was delicious. We were on the all inclusive meal plan and glad we were - I think we would have spent a lot more money if we weren’t - Bermuda is expensive for food and drinks. We took the kayaks out from the dive shop and toured around the island that’s in the bay - saw some beautiful fish. We did the cave massage (very expensive but if you can do it it is a neat experience with the droplets dripping into the water from the ceiling of the cave). We also were able to borrow a scooter from a couple and we toured the whole island in a day - I wouldn’t recommend if you aren’t comfortable driving a scooter especially if you aren’t use to driving on the wrong side of the road!)

    Excellent stay.

This is a wonderful hotel with top quality staff. Please can we make a special mention to Shakeem who took the time to rectify an issue we had with our room efficiently. The food is excellent. Portions are plentiful..all freshly cooked and hot. The staff, without exception, are a team of friendly, helpful, dedicated professionals. Nothing is too much trouble when staying at this hotel. It is simply one of the best places we have stayed. The only feedback we would have is when on an all inclusive rate, it is a little disappointing not to honour the all inclusive package until departure, as we usually experience in other hotels. We did not check in to the hotel until after 7pm on our first night and the all inclusive package ends at 11am on the day of departure . So we effectively paid for but missed out on a part of our AI deal. Based on flight times. Other than that, we had a perfect stay, and hope to come back.

This hotel is outstanding the staff are so friendly and polite, the beds are very comfortable and rooms immaculate. We are staying in room 462 on the 2nd floor. Whilst there is no lift, that doesn’t bother us as it helps to burn off the calories from the 1st class food, talking of which we normally avoid buffets and going all inclusive, but given the price of eating out in Bermuda we decided to give it a try. There are some buffets (which are excellent) but you always have the choice from the extensive Ala Carte menu for no extra charge, the soups and salads delicious. The hotel is near the airport and so far we have not heard anything. The local bus service which will get you almost anywhere on the island (via Hamilton) is just outside, with tickets that include the various ferries. After reading various reviews we were a little apprehensive but greatly surprised, you will see I have written very few reviews but on this occasion feel compelled to as it so good. If you are ultra picky then I’m sure you will find something to moan about but for me, keep up the excellent work Grotto Bay!

Nice Resort But There are Things to Consider

I think I would have rated this 3.5 stars if I could and I will say why here shortly. I believe that location is key and depending on what you are looking for, I consider this place a bit too isolated. With that said, there is a restaurant at the resort and actually two during the peak season but there is only really one other option within walking distance. There is no shopping within walking distance and the resort store is quite small. Now if you are fine with that and just want to disconnect, this may the right place. I will add though that the walls are thin but the rooms pretty comfortable yet aged a bit. The on site restaurant has some amazing food but the resort prices to go with it. The staff, especially the restaurant staff is excellent and very engaging. WIth all of that said, there are bus stops at the end of the resort drive (50 yards or so) and taxis that are available. A taxi ride to Hamilton is about a $35 charge each way if not a bit more and takes up to 25-35 minutes depending on traffic. The bus is definitely cheaper but obviously takes longer and can get crowded. I have been to the Grotto twice in 6 months for business and I prefer it for convenience as much of my work is tied to the airport (a mile away) so I feel my observations are pretty accurate. If you want flexibility or want to be in the middle of the action, this is probably not the choice BUT if you want to be unplugged with the option to explore occasionally, this may answer the mail. Oh, from what I saw, the Grotto is definitely kid friendly.

Great Hotel...definitely NOT worth the “all inclusive” package & not as advertised!

We visited Bermuda Feb 27 to Mar 1st and stayed at the Grotto Bay Beach Resort Bermuda. The resort is beautiful and clean. There is a small private beach which is accessible by walking from the rooms. The beach is clean and the water is clear and beautiful. It was too cold to go into the water for long swims but there is some cool things to see if you snorkel. We had the all inclusive package but couldn't benefit from any of the included water sports because they said they were closed due to the weather. There is a cave on the resort that you can access every day ‪until 5 PM‬ which was nice to see. We got the all inclusive package and we think it is defidefinitely not worth it and not as advertised. Although we were paying the same all inclusive package during high season we were surprised to know after we bought the all inclusive package that because we are visiting during off season, only 1 restaurant is opened and only 1 bar, and some of the nightly dining events like the bbq Thursday night and other options were not happening again because it was off season, which I understand but I don’t understand why I had to pay the full price of the all inclusive if I’m only getting very few of what is offered for the same price in the high season. There are very strict rules as to when you can access food and drinks which we thought were very strange. If you have been to any all inclusive resort in the Caribbean islands, this is NOT the same. You have to walk with 2 paper cards and keep showing them all the time to prove that you have the “all inclusive” package when asking for any drink at the restaurant bar, which was not very convenient if you were relaxing at the beach and needed to get a drink you would have to walk all the way back to the reception to get a drink because the pool side bar was closed again because of the off season. During breakfast time, there is an open buffet and a small snack / breakfast area outside the restaurant. After having breakfast in the open buffet we wanted to get a coffee to go and muffin/snack and were asked if we didnt just have the open buffet breakfast.... if I am paying for all inclusive, I am expecting I can get a muffin without interrogation. During our stay there was not a nightly show/event or activity except on Saturday they had a DJ in the restaurant. When checking out, my pregnant wife wanted a virgin pina colada and we were told since we are checking out our all inclusive ends after breakfast keeping in mind that check out is at 11:30 and we asked for the drink at 10 am... this really boggles my mind.. it's just some juice and ice. It also just felt like they were doing us a favor if we asked for any drinks or food. There is also no shuttle to and from the airport although the airport is about 5 minutes from the hotel. It's also advertised included with your “All inclusive” package that "passes are available for public bus and ferry services". So at the front desk we asked for a bus pass to go to the airport on our last day, we were told we cant get a bus pass and we have to pay for it because it’s our last day and we are checking out soon. It was frustrating to know that our all inclusive package includes bus pass but we were refused < 5$ bus tickets to go to the airport and we needed the manager to come and intervene and his compensation was to give us one way bus tokens for the bus. It's definitely going to be a one way trip for us and we wont be coming back to visit this hotel. We primarily chose it for the "all inclusive" package that was advertised. However, when we come back to visit Bemuda we would definitely go to competitor hotels which have a lot more amenities.  We did love the country, it is absolutely beautiful and the hotel is well kept and clean but it was a little overpriced compared to other competitor hotels and not worth the "all-inclusive" package. We wanted to thank a few people who are extremely hard working in the restaurant and appreciate all their hard work (Alfred, Dario, Julienne and all the restaurant’s host welcoming you at the door and the restaurant manager)
