    Beautiful Resort, but Disappointing Service

Review of Grotto Bay Beach Resort, Bermuda We recently stayed at Grotto Bay Resort and overall found it to be a beautiful property with some memorable highlights, but also some disappointing experiences. The resort itself is very scenic, with lush surroundings, a crystal-clear beach, and the unique experience of swimming in the caves—which was absolutely refreshing and unforgettable. Our room was updated, clean, and comfortable, and the food we did have was very good. That said, there were a few drawbacks. The resort is quite hilly with many steps, which could be a challenge for some. We also found the dining hours restrictive—there were periods during the day when no food was available, which felt inconvenient. The pool was small and often overcrowded. Entertainment was lacking compared to other resorts we’ve visited, and while most of the staff were friendly, we were surprised by a few encounters with rudeness. In one instance, when we asked for water, a bartender actually turned his back on me and said he refused to give me a glass of water or ice. I even went to management to report this, as we found it extremely unprofessional and shocking. Another time, when requesting to fill our water containers, we were told they didn’t have time. On top of that, a bartender in the lobby told my son-in-law that because we were all-inclusive, he had to go all the way down the hill to the beach bar just to get a drink, which felt unnecessarily inconvenient. These situations left us quite taken aback. Despite these issues, we truly loved Bermuda itself—the air was fragrant with flowers, the locals outside the resort were welcoming, and the island’s food scene was wonderful to explore. While we would definitely return to Bermuda, we would most likely choose a different resort for our next visit.

A beautiful resort- a few tweaks and it could be even better

We just returned from a one-week stay at Grotto Bay Resort with our two teenage boys and overall had a great time. The resort is in a stunning location, and we especially loved the rooftop area. We opted for the all-inclusive package. Breakfast was consistently great with a good variety, though lunch and dinner were more hit-or-miss. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful, but the level of service wasn’t always consistent. Unfortunately, the bartender by the pool left a negative impression – quite grumpy and refused to serve a simple glass of water with ice, which felt unnecessarily rude, especially as I don’t drink alcohol and primarily stick to water. That said, there were plenty of highlights. Bermuda’s public bus system is excellent and made it easy to explore. We went into town a few times, did a fantastic jet skiing tour (definitely a highlight!), visited Cooper Island for some beautiful snorkeling, and played both tennis and golf at the nearby Rosewood. All in all, Grotto Bay offers a lot, especially for families :beautiful surroundings, great activities, and a good base for exploring the island. A few service tweaks and it could be even better.

Could not have asked for a better Bermuda vacation!

Perfect Bermuda vacation from Aug 3-10, 2025, with our family of 10, ages 6-66, on the AI plan. Arrival: The Bermuda airport is very nice and literally 5 minutes away. Cab ride cost $17 with the Sunday surcharge. Check in was quick and our bags were transferred to our rooms while we went to lunch. Meals: Breakfast buffet was great, lunch at the Bayside always had an enticing sandwich of the day - hard to choose vs the regular menu - everything was delicious! We had equally excellent dinners at The Palm Court and Hibiscus plus the 2 buffets (Island BBQ and Surf and Turf). The Panorama Lounge was surprisingly quiet and enjoyable before dinner, with terrific views. The Rum House Bar tended to be busier with people getting drinks before and after dinner. The wait staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating. They work so hard, from sun up to sun down and are still so pleasant, patient and just nice people! Because we had a large group, I tried to make reservations for each night (which was easy) but the last night we hadn’t decided where to eat. We spoke with the lead restaurant staff (who amazingly knew our names) and they accommodated us! Awesome customer service! Thank you! Bartenders were somewhat reserved and had very demanding jobs - but if you were patient, interacted with them and were kind, they reciprocated! Resort: Grounds are beautiful! Lots of stairs but if needed, a golf cart could be called to transport anyone with mobility issues. The onsite cave is amazing and so unique - refreshing crystal clear water! Beach: Warm, beautiful water. Not as clear as the Caribbean though. Plenty of beach chairs with umbrellas. Fairly shallow so perfect for kids and no waves. The inflated “waterpark” was enjoyed by young and old! At the other end of the beach were a few steps down to a shallow area with great snorkeling, especially for beginners. Watersports (kayaks, SUP, Sunfish, floats, snorkel gear) was included with the AI plan and readily available. They also rented small Boston Whalers for 2 hrs, 4 hrs or all day. An incredible dive shop, Dive Bermuda, was on site with 2 tank morning and 1 tank afternoon dives, plus courses were available for certification. Off resort activities: A bus/ferry pass is included with the AI plan with a bus stop right at the entrance to the resort. 15 minute ride to St George’s, 20 minutes to Hamilton and 20 minute ferry to the Royal Naval Dockyard. We never made it to the other beaches - no need! The Blue Hole, Tom Moore’s Jungle, The Swizzle Inn and Bailey’s Ice Cream are all a 5 minute walk. My son went to the Bermuda Aquarium/Zoo/Museum with his family and they thoroughly enjoyed it! Weather: Hot and very humid - especially brutal during our half day explorations of Hamilton, Royal Naval Dockyard and St George’s. Short brief rain storms almost every day and one half day of steady rain during our week. Departure: Inform the bellman when you want to leave - they arrange for your luggage to be picked up and a cab for the airport - only charged $15 for a large passenger van for 6 of us! Very smooth and stress free. You clear US Customs in Bermuda so no extra waiting and lines back in the US. We had an amazing vacation. Customer service was beyond 5 star and the resort was perfect for us! A vacation to remember - thank you Grotto Bay! We hope to be back!

Great resort. Plenty to do. Pool / beach and swimming in the cave. Public transportation directly out front of resort. Close to the airport. Rooms were well done. Very nice.

    R&R getaway

Hotel was very nice, food was very good. Used the all inclusive option. Close to airport which was a plus. Beach had calm, warm water to float in . Spa in a cave , massage was very good. Only downside were the bartenders especially at beach bar, very elusive, do not make eye contact, have to get their attention while they stare off past guests. Thought it was one or two but even the bars in the guest house were the same. Not friendly at all, would say “ grumpy”. Understand that most people don’t tip, but we did with each drink, as usual. Really need to improve on customer service in this area ,as vacationers love their drinks.
