We stayed in the grand class section and had an amazing room. It was extra spacious and on the end. While it was a bit of a walk, the surroundings were so incredibly calm and beautiful...just exceptional landscaping! Paola, our concierge, made this trip very special. She took care of our dinner reservations, romantic nights after our dinners, transportation, and took care of things we didn’t even know we wanted! The attention she gave, made us feel very special. Paola was very discrete and never overbearing she treated us like royalty. We are beach people. I loved watching the ocean waves crash onto the erosion barriers they have in place. It reminded me of the Bellagio fountains in Las Vegas! We were able to play in the ocean. No seaweed! Also found some great sea shells between grand Velas and mayakoba! A favorite breakfast spot is Bistro. We were so happy to see Ernesto was still here. He always puts a smile on our faces. We went on a snorkel tour with Pedro. It was just me and my husband. We used one of the hobie cats on the beach. We didn’t need to go very far. Pedro led the way in the water, and we saw some great stuff. This was my husbands favorite snorkel experience, thanks to Pedro! The eco tour is a must! Just wow! We did a wine pairing with our meal, and our sommelier was exceptional! We took advantage of the free photo shoot. Ended up getting a picture, and we made some great memories! After a week of total bliss, we went to secrets maroma beach, which we also love. This resort was very stimulating. Much more interaction with other guests but not nearly the pampering and relaxation we experienced at grand Velas.
First Class Resort-truly felt for the staff but Pray for a Recovery !
We continued to Riviera Maya/Cancun for Spring Break despite the early days of CoronaVirus USA. Cancun had zero cases at the time. It was absolutely beautiful yet the irony of it all weighs heavy on me- we were seeing God's absolute glory and beauty while the world was changing and not for the good. But I write this in hopes of others chosing this place when we all RECOVERY. Upon arrival late Sunday, we were seated in the Zen lobby and given cool towels and drinks. It was kinda funny that we were not offered an upgrade before we asked for one. We assumed there were many cancellations. We negotiated an Ambassador room and were transferred to the Ambassador section. We had a balcony with a lounger table and chairs. The ocean view (room 4017) was spectacular with the massive pool in front of that view. It was dark so we saw the show in the garden right below our room. Our kids LOVED the karaoke bar and I enjoyed the classy piano bar next door. Here's a quick summary of our restaurant visits. Sunday-Sen Lin with kids - I got the kids to try tempura. Te curry fish with vegetables was so nice...13 yo had two orders of lamb chops ! all small gourmet portions but so scrumptious and filling. Desserts here were so fun ! one dish had tapioca, Corn and carrots ! So fun I had it twice. This is def. asian fusion so don't expect all asian. Azul for lunch...not open for dinner so don't expect to eat if you don't have reservations at one of the al la carte restaurants. The pool food is available until 7pm and there's alwasys room service. Azul was very international-also with sushi, pastas, breads, tons of unique salads, soups, and entree dishes like fish and curry chicken, homemade chips, fruits-all very nicely presented. We also had lunch by the pool at tables-burgers, nachos, guac and chips -birds are annoying! service was excellent. This is far from any "buffets eating' like at other AI and cruise ships. Frida-had the best service and beautifully decorated, faces the ocean. Service was again exceptional. Kids enjoyed tournedos of beef...def not tex mex. I had salmo. Piaf - just me and the husband here -gorgeous decor, excellent service and specialty drinks. I had chilean chardonnay Grand Marnier Souffle was excellent. Lucca with Kids, we had pasta kids loved duck pasta ragu. We had rissotto, fish again. ice cream for dessert. Toward the end of the week, Chef sent out fun appetizers. I guess they got bored with so few families. We did not eat at Cocina de Autor although I wanted to. Pool service was flawless but again, so many waiters and so few people. Water aerobics was nice around noon everyday. 8 year old wanted to join 13 year in Teen club with the better consoles which they allowed. Nicely decorated, fun, clean clubs. There was another kids club at Zen but it was closed. I enjoyed the fitness center...clean, smelled nice and there was plenty of water and modern machines. We had room service almost every am- breakfast was cooked to order and we enjoyed it. They present it very nicely. Our fridge and snack baskets were plentiful...even two half bottles of red and white win. BEDS ARE SUPER COMFY AND LINENS ARE CLEAN AND CRISP. I did check out the rentals at the beach which were reasonable and even checked out the day trip tours at the tour office across fro m the piano bar. Too lazy to do anything tough...Zen area pool is quite unique and relaxing. The Spa is out of this world. I've been to a few in my day. The water ceremony was a one of a kind experience-especially the ice room. It's just something you have to see. btw, we did the water ceremony on a separate day from our massages which was perfectly fine. Give yourself at least 1.5 hours to do this. Spa staff is sweet, quiet and very zen like....quite a contrast to 2 rambunctious screaming boys . In all, I would not hesitate to return to this resort. The beach was super nice. I saw maybe 2 vendors quietly walk by. The staff caters to each and every need. I feel for all these kind faces we saw throughout the week. Again, I hope everyone can get through the tough times and recovery. God Bless!
Wow, wow, wow! Everything about GV is top notch!! Accommodations are luxurious(we were in Ambassador), service is top-notch and the food is delicious!! Our concierge, Kate, went to great lengths to make sure we were taken care of our stay was top notch. The entire property was so manicured and clean, and our room in the Ambassador had an amazing view of the ocean and the pool. We can't wait to go back!!
Best Spring Break
Our room was beautiful and we loved having a patio with a plunge pool. The restaurants were varied and all of the food was very good. The staff is amazing...great service and responsive to any needs we had. We would definitely return and would have stayed longer had it not been for COVID-19!
This is our third visit to GV. The hotel is beautiful, the service is superb, the food is incredible. We love visiting GV because we can go and just be together and rest. Everything is taken care of from the moment you arrive.
