    Is not a Paradisus or Grand

    I’ve been to several all-inclusive resorts in the area and chose Melia Grand based on the strong reviews. Unfortunately, my experience was far from what I expected. I was extremely surprised by the lack of activities, limited food options, and the fact that several restaurants were closed. The overall food quality and variety were below what I’d expect from a resort in this category — closer to a 3-star experience at best. While I understand it may be a slower season, the cleanliness of the hotel and the overall service were disappointing. Aside from one very kind waiter we had in the mornings, service was almost non-existent — there were no waiters at the pool area or much staff engagement anywhere on the property. Overall, I feel that I did not get the value for the money spent. I would not recommend this property and, unfortunately, left feeling quite disappointed.

    Paradisus Gran Cana, good and bad

    Background information: This review is about our stay at the Paradisus Gran Cana in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic during the period of October 19 – 26, 2025. This vacation was booked using our Hilton Grand Vacation Club points using an exchange through RCI. There were four adults traveling and we were booked in a Two-Bedroom Master Suite. We accepted that we were required to pay the all-inclusive fee of roughly $500 per person for the week. Immediately after making the reservation, I reached out to the resort to ask how to pay the all-inclusive fee and when it was required to be paid and the possibility of upgrading our room to a higher category with us paying the difference. I immediately received a response from the resort and was provided with a link to make the payment; told the payment had to be made at the latest ten (10) days prior to arrival, and a different person would reach out to us about the upgrade request. That person did reach out to us about the upgrade request and advised us he would be our contact. WhatsApp information was traded, and we communicated several times about our hopes to be updated to at least a suite with family concierge service but hoped to be upgraded to a swim-out suite. Two weeks prior to our arrival at the resort, I reached out to see if our request was honored only to be ghosted. One week out, same result. I tried to use the link provided on my initial request to pay the all-inclusive fees with no success and contacted the person to determine a resolution only to be told that the link expired and a new one was sent. The link was received and again no luck making the payment. One card that was used had a fraud alert with a transaction originated from the Dominican Republic which our bank denied. The resort was notified, and they allowed us to make the all-inclusive payment at time of arrival. At the Resort Check-in was very smooth, and the representative was very friendly, personal and professional and assisted us in getting the upgrade we desired to a family concierge swim-out suite. We paid our fees and met our concierge, George. We were taken to our room and provided a brief tour of the Resort. Dinner reservations were also requested and provided for that evening. We requested dinner reservations every day but found the buffet to be the best place to eat after trying a couple of the restaurants and one member of our party requiring a visit to a hospital emergency room for gastronomical issues. Our suite, housekeeping personnel and roughly 75% of the staff were very friendly, helpful and showed appreciation that we were there. Special mentions to the following staff members in the buffet: Andreas, Darlin and Marilyn for going above and beyond! In Retrospect The ground of the Resort is well maintained and beautiful. The swim-up suite was spacious and very comfortable and clean. Air conditioning problems with our suite during our final two days took hours to resolve. Avoid the Circle Club presentation. Eat at the buffet as the restaurants tried to be gourmet, however, they failed. Restaurant reservations were showing not available at every restaurant for every night. The family concierge level suite gets you in, however, not what worth the money for the upgrade. Just like the other resorts in the Dominican Republic, the employees make or break the resort, and we met both great and not so great staff members. As an example, at the towel exchange stand, there seemed to be no one there when we needed to exchange our towels and at one time lied to me that the employee responsible was in the bathroom. As I stood waiting, that employee took care of me seven minutes later.

    overall aperance

    Very dissapointed with overall quility and cleanlyness. Several items need to be replaced or repaired.The shower was broken, the room patio landscape was over grown. The cabanna was broken and the pool was filthy dirty. We were very dissapointed.

    Celebrating in style

    This was our first visit to this all-inclusive resort. We had an awesome experience celebrating our 30th anniversary as we participated in the resort/member events. The service, drinks, food, workshops, events, etc. , were great. We arrived as guests of our friends and loved it so much that we left as Circle by Melia members.Big shout out to our concierge Omar Perez who took care of planning, arranging, and dealing with all of our petitions and problems. Our bartender Hector Acá, the best and most social mixologist of the resort. It was an honor to become one of his guinea pigs at the bar while inventing new concoctions. Anthony was our favorite server and you can ask for him at Mangu Restaurant during the day and at Salt Restaurant at night. If you want to have fun and participate during the daily events reach out to Raisa, the best social events coordinator at the resort. Finally, we thank Luis Herrera from Circle by Melia who showed us what we were missing and convinced us to become members.
