Horrible experience and happy ending
I dined with my wife and mother in law at the sushi restaurant at the Gran Hyatt playa del Carmen and a wonderful waitress named Escarlet helped us with a smile even after being denied at the Grill restaurant in the same hotel (horrible experience, we were not allowed to it there even though we came at 9 and they closed at 10:30. Escarlet at the shushi restaurant was very kind and helpful even though I can imagine what it is to be at the end of your shift. Good restaurant, wonderful experience.

Loud, degenerate, zero management, ruined vacation. Will avoid EVERY Hyatt at all costs in the future.
I write this with mixed feelings. The beauty of the site was marred by the inability to get a good night's rest. The atmosphere is way too loud at all hours, from an outdoor disco blasting an overwhelmingly loud beat outside my balcony room to a bar in the middle of the property which allows people to make tons of noise until after 11 pm. I went personally to the front desk, after calling security repeatedly, and the agent on duty told me there is nothing he can do. This property is popular for retreats and the participants were louder than mating chimpanzees after their seminars. Once we were walking along the third floor walkway and a naked couple was fliming sex visible through their open window without closing the curtains. This may have been a property next door, but it was disturbing, especially with my kids there. It took THREE DAYS to get an appointment with a hotel manager, who moved us to a different room. I lost my view and was placed close to the outdoor bar with all the noise. There were parties in the room next door. I could not wait to leave. We changed our return trip to spend 2 nights in Florida just to recover from this. Costco travel failed to provide any help, and Hyatt offered 25k points, which is nowhere near enough to compensate for the ruined vacation time and expenses. The spa did not respect boundaries and women from the staff walked into the men's changing room three times without even announcing. I felt extremely uncomfortable and upset. One good part of the property is the excellent kosher restaurant. They did give us a room for prayers but it was in a dank, mouldy basement with poor lighting and even a dead cockroach. (Which they did clean up quickly, but I shouldn't have to even report it). I will never, ever visit this hotel again, and I will think twice before ever staying at another Hyatt owned hotel.

Best in Playa near 5th Ave
I have no complaints at all. This resort met every expectation, professionalism and care. The breakfast buffet was the best and the view was phenomenally breathtaking Thx you for meeting our expectations. Btw, 5th Ave with all the shopping and restaurants is a quick 5min walk.

Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen's superpower is it's Staff
The location of the hotel is ideal. It's on the beach and it's a very short walk to 5th Ave. There are restaurants and shops within a short walk from the hotel. The hotel itself is nice. It could use a little refreshing in certain areas but it's clean and has all the amenities that one might expect. I stayed on the 3rd floor right over the restaurant which I think takes away from the view. Try to get a room in the middle not on either end. I'd also add that I felt very safe here as a solo traveler. There is a guard booth upon entering the property. Whenever I left in a taxi the driver would tell the guard which room I was from...I believe this was a great security measure, especially for a solo traveler. The food is OK. I really like flavorful food...kind of a foodie and will say that the food is NOT that. BUT it's decent. And there are many dining options very close to the hotel. I had club lounge access, and I believe that it is worth it because of the breakfast and happy hour access. The greatest thing about Grand Hyatt Playa Del Carmen is the Staff. They deliver exemplary customer service. Julio and Giovanni in the Breakfast area, Jesus in the Valet area, Jose at Front Desk, Anna, Marie, Marcela and Angel in the Club Lounge all made my stay so much better. They are hard workers, always greeting me with a smile and just kind people. I would go back to the hotel for them alone. Lastly, the team really helped me celebrate my birthday through decorating my room, cakes, a doll, candles and singing to me.

Unfortunate
The resort was okay. I gave it two stars because the massage I had was amazing. Unfortunately, I was tricked by Marisol to attend a sales presentation at another resort, Dreams Jade, after she assured me that it was just to view the property because we stay at Hyatts frequently. The sales rep, Max, was rude and berated my family despite me telling him I was unaware that this was a sales pitch and we are not interested in their “membership”. When I complained to the hotel staff about it at the Grand Hyatt I was told someone would reach out to me from the other hotel to address Max’s bad behavior. I haven’t heard back of course because this is all part of the scam.
