It was the first time we visited Puerto Plata. From up from the plane, this island looks lush and so green. We felt that we were landing in Hawaii rather than a Caribbean island. We could not wait to start our beautiful trip. Our resort was about 20 minutes away from the international airport and a nice ride there. From the time that we arrived there, we were greeted by the friendly staff of Gran Ventana. As we arrived in the afternoon, the activities were in full gear. Lots of activities happening, laughing, dancing and good cheer in the pool area. It had an amazing vibe of hospitality and friendliness that we had not experienced at other resorts. The nightly shows were a lot of fun, especially the Michael Jackson show! Wow. It brought us back to our teenage years. Spectacular performances. There was another aqua show too done at night, which was very different that what we had seen before. The entertainment staff, including their gracious manager, Carlos did a fantastic job keeping everyone busy; even on those rainy days there. Never did we feel that they were tired or fatigued. Hats off to their team for keeping the spirits up for all the tourists there. One of our favourite activity was the yoga sessions which were held either on the stage (rainy days) or on the grass near the beach. Our yoga teacher (Sonia Sharma from NRG2GO) was a certified Yoga Alliance teacher, who was very knowledgeable about yoga and meditation. She had a calming voice that was perfect during the coronavirus time. She gave us many exercises and meditations to help us remain calm during a challenging time for many. Although, nobody was panicking here, it was still nice to know that the resort had this activity to help their clients. We also had a beautiful walk on the beach on full moon night. It was spectacular to experience this. The food was perfect for us, since it gave provided great variety for vegetarians and meat eaters. Delicious experience! One of the days, I had some issues with my internet, and the patient staff were very helpful. They would go out of their way to make sure that we were taken care of. With it’s lively ambiance and friendly atmosphere, we definitely want to go back again!! Ten out of ten for this resort!!
Beautiful beach, great service, Delicious vegetarian buffet!
We stayed in Gran Ventana for 7 days. It’s a very family friendly resort with beautiful pools, comfortable rooms, great buffets, perfect beach and lots of activities. The location of this resort was perfect! No weeds on our side of the beach. You can walk for hours on the beach, while listening to the waves. Our favourite activity was the yoga from Sonia, (from NRG2GO a fitness instructor) who gave good classes with relaxing music. The yoga class had people from different backgrounds and ages, and we loved getting together and joining in as a group. Also, as the coronavirus began while we were there, we felt that the yoga exercises and meditation were helping us remain calm. There were 2 classes every day (morning and evening) and the outside location near the beach was heavenly. During yoga time, we would hear the birds chirping and providing a beautiful ambiance for relaxation. Almost a spa-like experience! All the staff at the resort were touching and very warm. (especially Carlos, the entertainment manager). Our cleaning lady was super sweet. She would decorate our room with flowers every day, and towel patterns on our bed. These folks don’t make that much money, but they are so devoted to their work and excellence. We tipped her well as a way of appreciation for spreading their cheer and hard work. The food at the buffet was full of diversity and delicious. Being vegetarian, we were impressed with their amazing assortment of dishes (always!). The staff was always quick to respond to every need and the manager would walk around each meal time to make sure everyone was taken care of. During the virus scare, the resort was taking many precautions. They would mop sanitize the floors hundreds of times every day, especially with new tourists coming from around the world. You had to sanitize your hands before entering the buffet section (always). We were impressed with how professional the staff was in answering all our questions. They were always patient and understanding and provided excellent service. Overall, we give this resort 2 thumps up! We can’t wait to go back again.
Gran Ventana March 23rd 2020
We had 28days of fantastic weather, service, swimming, shopping, food, service (the best of everything) yah a little rain for a few days, that was fine. Everyone did bingo in the theatre, walked around, walked the beaches, walked to the Mall and around thru all the neighbouring resorts. Didn't get to the golf course this year, the costs were too high based on what they offer. We wanted to mention the fantastic crew/employees at the Ventana, there folks went beyond beyond: Ybelka, Felix, Hipolito, Luis, Juan Carlos, Carlos(the boss), Rayson, Joan, Ana, Samual, Mini-me (Jovanny), Scarlet, Greiby, Rosa, Percilia, there were more for sure we'll get their names next year. This family of individuals will stay in our hearts. Management was great, handed out masks and strong feelings before we left at 930am on March 23rd. The resort was closing after we left for a few months. We love the bunch, hope that all stay safe and well, need them back next year on our return. Without them would not be the same. Cheers be safe and well, next time.......
Stay here and you become Family!!
Fantastic resort by all means! Having been to several all inclusive's, this resort tops them. First off, the staff make this resort. When I arrived and talked to guests, several of them said it was their 8th or 10th time visiting. The staff is wonderful, always smiling, and happy to help guests. Please don't forget to tip the workers- they work super hard and aren't paid well. The animation team is high energy, always engaging the guests. The food is super fresh and very organized. The buffet has tons of options. Healthy salad bar, lots of authentic food to try, fresh fruits, pasta and pizza station. This resort really kicks up the food! Ahh don't forget the desserts, the flan is out of this world. The beach is fantastic, zero garbage or seaweed. Plenty of lounge chairs and the vendors approach you- politely say no thank you. They are trying to make a living. I can't wait to come back and visit everyone. When you stay here, you become family. *Please note, due to the CORONA Virus the resort is temporarily closed*
This was our 1st time here. A friend recommended it. We have made about 40 trips so I think I can give an honest review. We arrived on a Friday from Toronto and our first impression was good. Very easy ck in, taken to our room quickly and quickly went out to check things out. The staff are very good. The grounds are always being maintained. The beach is fantastic and you can walk forever and the ocean is very warm and clean. We were very impressed with the quality, quantity and variation of the foods. There is no reason to go to the Ala carts, they are good but the buffet is also very good. So don't sweat it if you don't have a reservation. Management should consider real cream at the coffee bar by the pool and in the rooms. I could go on but the bottom line is that YES we would recommend the Gran Ventana to anyone including our friends and will be back .
