What We Love
- The scenery is extraordinary. It's right in the middle of Soberania National Park, a tropical rainforest home to lush plant life, animals, birds, insects and reptiles.
Things to Know
- The Gamboa Rainforest Resort has everything you could ask for with extra perks such as the location so close to nature.
The lush grounds of Gamboa Rainforest Resort are 35 minutes from Panama City and along the banks of the Chagres River and Gatun Lake. These valuable Panama Canal water sources are the backdrop to serenity and adventure, though the pool is a safer bet for swimming unless you like alligators! Paddle up to Cascadas swim-up bar for a mojito while soaking up the sun, and when hunger strikes take your pick of the three dining options. Corotu Restaurant's international theme dinners – from Italian to Panamanian – offer guests a taste tour, and Chagres River View Restaurant offers exquisite fine dining. After dinner, guests can groove to live music or relax to the nighttime sounds of the rainforest on the terrace at the Monkey Lobby Bar.
In order for guests to take full advantage of the area's unique eco-system, the resort has educational exhibits along pathways and trails. Let wonder guide you through the freshwater fish aquarium, reptile exhibit and historical and cultural displays. The resort's tours are a popular way to explore the surrounding environment totally worry-free, and the Arial Tram Tour gives you a bird's-eye view of breathtaking flora and fauna. The Monkey Island Tour brings guests face to face with capuchin and howler monkeys!
Adventuring can be tiring; luckily the resort's Sensory Spa by Clarins has the secret to winding down after a long day with natural herbs and minerals. We loved the quiet herbal wrap. When it's time to call it a day, the Standard Room's comfortable furnishings are just the thing. Looking for a bit of history? Choose one of the 48 renovated 1930s One Bedroom Historic Apartments.

We stayed here two nights on our Caravan tour. The setting is idyllic. The view from every room includes river and rain forest. The outside pool area is beautiful. The balcony has a hammock to relax. The lobby has a three level window on the entire back wall. The buffet food was delicious and the staff were all friendly and helpful. Sloths and interesting birds were on the grounds. Cool hiking trails close by.
Great basecamp for Gamboa area.
The GRR is a beautiful place. Great view of the Chagres River from the hotel, dining room, and rooms. The pool is large and fun to use the water based basket ball hoop. The grounds are spacious, plenty of nice walks. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The front desk and tour desk are multilingual. The dining staff typically only speak Spanish. They run many tours in the nearby rainforest, including a monkey tour on the Panama Canal. Downtown PC or the Amador Causeway is not far away if you have a car. They need to freshen the paint in a few places, which they are doing to some extent. Warning, it is a bit of a walk from the rooms to the lobby & dining area. But there is lots of wildlife to enjoy from the walkways. The famed Pipeline trail is nearby, if you are a birder or like wildlife walks. We were there just before the world-wide travel shutdown. Hopefully when travel returns people will experience this place.
Beautiful resort with a great night tour of the animal life!
We stayed here 2 nights as part of our Caravan tour and it is beautiful! There is a large pool with plenty of seating and with a basketball hoop in the pool as well as a bar. The lobby is grand and open air. They have beautiful metal hanging birds as artwork in the staircase leaving the lobby. The lobby has a large bar with plenty of seating. And downstairs, the restaurant is buffet style but excellent service, hot food and a large assortment of food items. And the desserts at night are enough to make you gain weight just looking at them! Rooms are huge, some with hammocks on the balconies. The bathroom is large enough for at least 10 people! Large shower, plenty of counter space and lots of fresh linens. Again very quiet. There are plenty of walking trails around the resort as well as a tour desk to help you with any excursions you may want to take. They do offer a complimentary night tour of the grounds in an open canopy jeep. They offer tours at 7:30 pm & 8 pm but sign up early at the excursion desk as they fill up fast. Bring bug spray as a precaution. We spotted 3 sloths, alligator and a few other animals. The main lobby has plenty of couches to relax and I noticed large conference rooms on the premises. Highly recommend this resort.
We took this trip thru Caravan Tours which included all of our hotel stays, trip excursions, meals etc. Well this was one of our overnight stays at this resort. The views are are facing either the pool or the water and forest areas.Rooms are air conditioned very well and clean. Our balcony had a hammock which was nice,a table and 2 chairs with a great view. The Buffet was a 2 on a scale of 1-5. Food was lukewarm at best, even when first brought out.Breakfast food seemed to us like lunch type of food, but everything was tasty in its own way. The resort needs some much needed maintenance. The pool deck area is in need of cleaning and painting, although there were sparse areas that they were attempting to repaint. The pool water was clear and clean. There is a swim up pool bar as well. Some painting and some other items needing attention,I give this a 3.Star.
My wife and I recently spent a week at the Gamboa Rainforest Resort. We were there to celebrate my wife's birthday and do a little nature photography. We had some small concerns due to some of the poor reviews we had read. Our concerns went away instantly once we arrived. Our check in was quick and easy. We had a junior suite with a river view. The room was incredible. Clean, spacious with a very comfortable bed. We had no issues with the A/C. The view was spectacular. We had the all inclusive buffet, which, we both thought had plenty of options and felt the quality of food was excellent. We also enjoyed many different drinks which were very good. The resort grounds were very spread out, which got us out walking quite a bit. The different types of birds and wildlife spotted just around the resort was unreal. If you are into birds, nature or photography then this resort delivers. We enjoyed spending the mid day at the pool. The pool area and pool itself were very clean and it was never overly busy. Most impressive to us, was the staff. We were constantly greeted with smiling faces and we found that the staff would go out of their way to help us. There may have been, at times, a few language issues but nothing that would cause any problems. The number of staff that we could praise is endless and I don't remember all of there names but these few help make our stay incredible. Angel(concierge)- he is truly amazing, Marco(boat captain), Rueben(bar/restaurant), Aracellys made the best omelletes every morning, Miguel(pool bar), Julio (waiter extrodinaire), all the front desk staff and special thanks to the amazing staff at the tour desk who were always there to ensure you got what you were looking for. Last but definately not least is Roberto the manager. He always took the time out of his busy day to make you feel like you were the most important person. He went the extra mile to help make my wife's birthday extra special. We can't thank these people enough for their hospitality. We would recommend this resort to anyone, however, if you are looking for a place to party and a big social scene, then this is not likely the place for you. We hope to return sooner, rather than later!!
