El Dorado Seaside
This was a perfect vacation resort. Every aspect from the nightly entertainment, Room cleanliness, property upkeep, amount of space and though it was 89% booked, you did not have the sense that it was crowded was special . This resort has 10 restaurants all of them really had top notch food. The bar drinks were top shelf brands and every effort was made for special moments. Nice over and above touches were made like pop up stands all over the property from Mexican corn cob , Donuts one night, bonfire marshmallows , Ect........ Amenities were kept sterile clean and well appointed. We would absolutely return here .
Fantastic service, good food - just no beach and mildew issues
My husband and I really enjoyed ourselves and that was largely due to the service and the food, both of which were great. Due to the COVID-19 issue there was less than 50% of the people that would normally be there. Under normal circumstances I doubt we would have had the easy access to the luxury beach-side bed and chairs which made all the difference on the "beach". On the El Dorado side of the resort complex (there are 3 resorts) there is only one very small section of beach (maybe 40ft wide?) that you can wade out into the water. The rest of the ocean front has a small rock wall and very rocky water not possible to wade/walk out due to coral. We never went to the much larger beach on the Sensimar side, because the reduced number of people provided us with our "own" private beach on the El Dorado side. The staff are fantastic and really made our stay an enjoyable one. A few we certainly want to mention: our server on the beach Sara, always had a smile, a warm welcome and delivered great service of drinks. Azael was fantastic tending to our needs on the beach and ensuring we were comfortable. Food on the whole was very good and best 2 restaurants are Culinarium and the Klay Talay Asian restaurant. All of the the wait staff at the Culinarium are fantastic, particularly the head waiter and the bartender (we forgot their names) who were exceptional, and the food was delicious. The staff are extremely professionally and go above and beyond to make your meal time enjoyable. We loved the octopus appetizer as well as the skirt steak and pork dishes. The whole resort is mindful of gluten sensitivities so not only were breads and buns available, they even had gluten free beer that they tracked down for my husband. The Sandwicherie has gluten free pizza too. We got a couples Sky Massage outside on the beach which was really nice (but wasn't worth the morning wasted on the presentation to get it -- more on that later...). My husband gets lots of massages and he said his deep tissue massage with Leydi was the best he has ever had! I got a relaxing massage even though we both requested deep tissue, and it was pleasantly relaxing. Hector our travel agent with Sunwing is a true professional. He was extremely calm and patient while helping us navigate the COVID-19 matters and providing us updates without trying to influence us on any decisions, nor try to sell us on an excursions. As a side note - Canada Transfers, the company we used to take us to and from the airport, gets 5 stars and we would absolutely use them again to travel anywhere in Cancun region. The Down Sides: Apart from the lack of beach: the exotic presentation they deceive you into (you've been warned!), and the mildewy rooms. Our concierge Shirem provided an invitation to receive a gift of our choosing from select options and indicated that the 25 min massage can be upgraded to a 50 min massage plus a $50 USD credit that can be applied so that it would only be $25 USD each to get the sky massage (that includes hydrotherapy), if we were willing to listen to a presentation over breakfast that would be about an hour. I asked her 2 or 3 times if the presentation occurred ONLY during breakfast, which she confirmed it was, and so we agreed. The whole morning of the presentation it's handing you from one person to another - from concierge to a receptionist in the sales department (who changes the length of time from 60 min to 90 min - NOT impressed), to a salesperson who comes to breakfast with you, to 2 more sales reps, back to receptionist for a survey -- BRUTAL -- and when I prompted at breakfast to hear what the whole deal was, he indicated he would let us know after breakfast!! Trying to sell something to people you've deceived and pissed off is a losing game. Not to mention avoiding my husband's questions early on about how much the membership is so we have some context. The sales rep only told us at the end of it all! So for those of you who decide to do the presentation, you can know up front that the 50 year plan is about $50K (USD) at the most basic level, the 10yr is about $15K (USD). There are different levels that offer different perks. The perks for the basic Sapphire are nothing that we would ever want. Besides the Sapphire room was the room we were already staying in. When they could see that we were leaving, in desperation they offered the 5 yr deal for about $3.5K USD. The only reason they come to breakfast with you to build rapport. We kept telling them we need to get going...we met at 8am and finally freed ourselves by around 11am!! We were not impressed that we were lied to and that our questions were repeatedly brushed aside. And lastly, the mildew. I had to wash all our clothing items and only those items that I was able to use some bleach with resolved the smell. Hanging clothes to dry in the sun helped as well. I also had to put our travel bags and other items out in the sun but there is still a subtle smell. I can smell like a hound, but even my husband who normally can't smell anything really noticed the bad mildew smell in our first room so we definitely had to change rooms. I could smell it in the enclosed hallway in front of the rooms (including the one we got transferred too), and it was very subtle in our new room but I expect that's as good as it would get. There is obviously a lot of humidity so with the air conditioned rooms it makes it tough to deal with I'm sure. For anyone who is recovering from mold exposure you definitely should not risk it here.
A Wonderful Week with Great Guests and an Amazing Staff
It was a difficult time to travel but the amazing staff at the Seaside Suites and great guests made it a week to remember. From our wonderful time in the Infinity pool section with Bernice, Juan, Gaby, David, Mina, Azuel, Uvaldo, Manuel, Damian to our incredible restaurant service by Abraham in the Market restaurant and Driftwood plus all the staff of the Gourmet pub and the Steakhouse you went above and beyond to make it a special vacation for my wife and I. In these trying times i cannot say enough how much we appreciate how far the staff went to be positive and provide a top level experience. We would reccomend to everyone a trip here to experience this wonderful place and staff. We also met some great people form other parts of Canada and the U.S that we will keep in touch with that made this trip even better. A trip to remember!
Heaven on Earth
Best time of your life! We have returned home after our annual trip to the EDSS. Each year we are reminded of the many many reasons why this is absolutely our most favourite place to be! The scenery, the lush tropical view, the Palm trees, the ocean and it’s breathtakingly blue shades that dance in the afternoon sun, the fabulous and superbly delicious food, served with amazingly artistic presentation, and last, and by no means the least, the many extraordinary, genuine, caring, wonderful and truly amazing people that we have come to meet, to know and to love. Our hearts have been touched by so many. Firstly, we need and want to thank both Azael and Manuel, our amazing Beach Butlers who daily took extraordinary care of us on the beach, after one of us had an injury. To our Butlers; Eugenia, Rosy, Aldo, and Anna, all of whom also went above and beyond taking care of us, we offer our most heartfelt thanks and sincere appreciation. To our Amigo, Antonio from Mia Casa, who always makes both our stay, and our dining, a delight, we send our hugs, gratitude and appreciation. To Gerardo (SeaSide Market) you were always there to assist us, and to greet us with a cheerful “Buenos Dias”, and offer us a sincere hug, and smile. We thank you for being you!! To Lorenza, lunch would not have been nearly as enjoyable without your friendly assistance, always happy, always cheerful, always offering to do more. To Carlos (Culinarium), Nelson (Klay Talay), Alexis (La Carretta) and also the hostess (Melissia), we thank you all for wonderful evenings and delicious meals. We also need to extend a huge and special THANK YOU to the chef at the Culinarium (Emmanuel) who personally came to our table on 3 separate occasions, and for making us the amazing coconut foam and coconut shrimp that we love so very much. Stunning and amazing experience!!
The entire experience at this resort was simply fabulous, welcoming, clean, and luxurious. From being offered champagne at check in, to enjoying the added perks of the anniversary package, everything at this facility was well worth it, and worthy of being called a luxury 5 star experience. The staff were all wonderful, and friendly, with some of them going out of their way to make the experiences top notch. Special mentions to Ivan our favourite bellhop, Suemy our most amazing beachfront/poolfront server (thansk so much for taking our order from the swim out area on our patio!), Sergio who was our server at Mia Casa, Damian our bartender at the Driftwood, and Rubicel, our server during our beachfront cnadlelit dinner. If you are lucky enough to meet these folks and many more, you are in great hands! We were a little disappointed that we couldn't get into Klay Talay during our stay, but the other restaurants were incredible. The portions appear to be small, but are actually perfect in size, and jam-packed with flavour. I was surprised that the dinner at the Culinarium turned out to be my favourite. Also very impressed with the daily pop-ups on both sides of the resorts, as well as the fact that the resort doesn't make you wear wristbands. The shuttle drivers all make your life very easy with portering people around, although the walks are very short and peaceful. The beach is perfect with the water breaks, although a little rocky if you don't have water shoes (highly recommend them, as they were a foot saver!) We loved our experience here, albeit it was abbreviated due to scheduling, and we look forward to coming back next year for 2 full weeks. If you have read this far, put any worry or concerns aside, and book this trip! You won't be sorry!! Have fun
