Beautiful Beach and Swim-Up Room, But Some Letdowns
Great location with a beautiful beach. While the beach itself is stunning, the water is very shallow and not really swimmable. We stayed in a swim-up pool room, which was very nice and a definite highlight. Breakfast and lunch service were very good, both in quality and pacing. Dinner service was the weakest part of the stay across all restaurants. At Lima Luminary, we were asked three times if we were done with our second course, which felt rushed and uncomfortable. There was very little Asian flavour in the dishes, and overall dinners felt like they wanted guests in and out within an hour. Dinner at Palafitos is extra, but totally worthwhile. The entertainment team was great, which added a lot of fun to the stay. Some spaces could be improved — Rick’s Bar felt too big and didn’t have a comfortable atmosphere, and there is no nice indoor space to relax when it gets cool in the early evening. The all-inclusive catamaran trip with snorkeling was disappointing. It basically took five minutes to sail to one side of the resort for 30 minutes of snorkeling, then five minutes to the other side for 20 minutes, and then back to shore. Not worth the hype. Overall, it was a good stay, but nothing amazing.

Excellent first all-inclusive experience
Spent 4 days escaping the cold of Ohio so that in itself was excellent. Highlight was the Social Ambassador Mauricio and his staff of engaging personnel. Rick's Bar events were outstanding and well worth the "late" night. Best food was at the Caribbean Grill--except Mios had better desserts. The entire resort is populated with staff that far exceed our US standards of service--friendly greetings, superb attention and all very sincere. Some areas for improvement: better identification of buildings (we found ourselves unable to locate Building 11 until you physically walk up to the porch). A large number visible from the sidewalk would have helped. Social events were well advertised, but pop-up eateries around the beach bar were not. We never knew what was going to be available until seeing the set up (or tear down in one case). And not all Junior Suites are alike--my sister's room was substantially nicer and the same price (she was in Building 12). Final suggestion to visitors:TIP the servers, staff, bartenders generously and every time.If you can afford to stay here, you can afford to reward those who are making it so pleasantly over the top.

Five year summary
Since our last review for December 2018, we have returned to Eldorado Maroma almost every year, making this our 8th visit from December 11-18, 2025. This review will focus on the changes during that time. We caught a direct red-eye from YVR and arrived at CUN airport just before 7am. Being the first international arrival of the day, we breezed through customs (vs the normal 2-3 hour wait) and luggage arrived quickly. With such an early arrival, the outdoor greeting area was empty, and we had to search for the sole Lomas representative at the far end of the transport lot. At 7:15am, there were no Lomas vehicles on site, and it took about 15m to be picked up. It was a quick trip to the hotel. Upon arrival at the hotel, we were greeted by the Exotic travellers concierges and check in was quick and efficient. As anticipated, check in to our Ruby Garden Villa was not available until 2pm. The luggage was stored by the bellman and we were seated for breakfast at Lima Limon by 8:30am. What we LOVE about this small, intimate resort (<200 rooms) is the continuity and friendliness of the staff. You truly feel welcomed when staff remember you and refer to you by name, even after a year away. There continue to be just the two restaurant options for breakfast and lunch – Pepitos and Lima Limon. We noticed most days that Pepitos would also set up an outdoor grill by the pool around 1pm for a more-casual option. There are food options for all dietary restrictions (vegan, vegetarian, non-gluten, non-dairy etc) and the hosts at all the restaurants ask about food allergies prior to being seated. Recently opened is the Taqueria close to the Mi hotelito pool for lunch. The specialities were meat oriented (Beef, Pork al Pastor, Lingua) but the chef willingly prepared cheese tostados. Also of note is the Helados (ice-cream) / Café located next to Pepitos which was once a butler station. A nice option after a hot day at the beach. The increased variety of dinner options, especially for Exotic members, has definitely improved over the years, and in the week we were there, there was no need to repeat venues. In the past few years a Maroma app was launched to make dinner reservations and provide a listing of daily activities, but if seatings are not showing as available, the butlers or concierges can assist with bookings. For dinner, in addition to the: *weekly Mexican fiesta on the beach (food & entertainment), there is the *Caribbean grill (accessibility is not ideal for those with mobility issues due to steep stairs) – the caesar salad wrapped in crispy parmesan & coconut shrimp were delicious; thank you to server ALBERTO *Lima Limon – no longer a Peruvian restaurant, but instead Asian influence (at dinner). Thank you to our morning server ANGEL who has been a friendly smile there for several years *Mio – Italian menu, with larger sized servings than expected! Thank you to JESUS for our lovely meal *Pepitos – has a rotating menu but is not open every night. A quick mention to the morning staff there of CARLOS, and our year-after-year favorites of ARTURO & ANDRES. We’ve seen Andres for at least 10 years 😊 *Exotic members can now choose from 1 of 2 weekly Gala dinners: the Wine pairing on the beach by Lima Limon, or the traditional surf & turf at Pepitos. Thank you to the always hard-working (we swear the man never gets a day off!) “Jefe” AUGUSTINE who has blessed us with his presence for the past 15 years and hosted the wine-pairing event *Palafitos – for a paid $99 upgrade per person, you can experience a 5 course meal dining over the ocean. We opted not to do this in prior years, but for those with Exotic benefits that include a candlelight dinner, you can instead now choose the Palafitos dinner for a reduced $65 per person. This was the best meal of our Maroma trip, and worth the extra dollars. Thank you to server ULISES for ensuring this. Highly recommended! For day-time entertainment, this is one area management has invested funds in over the past 5 years, and it does not go unnoticed. There was always music and/or dancing poolside during the day, and the outdoor evening entertainment was fantastic (salsa band & rock band). A great variety, for all ages. For myself, the only downside of the outdoor evening entertainment was being eaten alive by No-see-ums, despite wearing deep woods off and citronella bracelets and anklets (over 30 bites in just 2 days). During our stay, we did see the foliage being sprayed at night, so it’s unknown what else can be done to prevent bug bites. The indoor nightly entertainment at Rick’s bar with Bartender GUSTAVO was livelier than prior years, and we enjoyed the Karaoke sessions as well as the Freddie Mercury tribute band. In addition to the incredible staff at the resort, and the delicious meals, the main reason we visit repeatedly is the BEACH. There’s something about walking for hundreds of metres through the shallow, clear, warm ocean and only be waist deep. For most of our stay, availability of beach chairs and umbrellas was not an issue, but occupancy did noticeably increase closer to Christmas. The exclusive Exotic members’ sections on the beach have both been removed since last year. The beach butlers and entertainment team work non-stop to ensure your vacation is memorable. A shout out to the juniors on the team – OSVALDO, MARCO and (returning) ARMANDO who always greet you with a smile (or hug if you are lucky) and Beach Jefe MANUEL with the December birthday. Long term servers and bartenders DIEGO and KAREN (who we’ve seen for at least 15 years) as well as BETSABE, ANA and LEOBARDO kept us hydrated with our Arnold Palmers. Muchas Gracias from Carolina y Alejandro for always having ice-tea at the beach bar! Lastly we want to thank our Butlers who have a huge impact on how your overall stay is. Both of our butlers provided their contact information via Whatsapp (wifi reception was solid through the resort) and were prompt in responding to any queries. Butler ALEX was the quieter and more serious of the two, but ensured all needs were met. We were happy to have Butler ENRIQUE again after two years, who went out of his way to handle any issues, such as enough Nespresso pods and daily ice. We miss you already Enrique! Our only “wish-list” would be for the restaurants / bars and or in-suite options to include Coke Zero (vs Diet Coke), Sprite Zero and Gingerale. Tipping – when the minimum wage in the Mayan Riviera is <$20 USD a DAY, and we are spending thousands of dollars to relax at this resort and be pampered, we choose to tip even though the resort is advertised as all-inclusive. The front desk will exchange large USD denominations to smaller USD or pesos. You will not be treated any differently if you choose not to tip, but it is incredibly appreciated. As we tend to split our vacations between Maroma and Casitas Royale (also owned by Lomas), the one negative observation is how even base Exotic member Sapphire rooms at Maroma have trended from $350 per night with Karisma up to $500 with Lomas over the past 5 years, whereas we can book a Ruby room at Casitas for less than this. Because of this, in Dec 2024 we booked 3 rooms at Eldorado Royale (another Lomas property) for a 75th birthday celebration at approximately $300 per night, whereas we would have preferred for the family to stay at Maroma. We were promised by the Exotic sales manager at Eldorado Royale on our member update in Dec 2023 that post “divorce” Lomas would bring prices down as they no longer needed to pay Karisma, but 2 years later this hasn’t happened. We have not attended a member update since 2023 due to this mis-statement as well as other issues with Lomas bookings in 2024. Lomas Hospitality IS improving, but still hasn’t reached Karisma service levels. Thank you again to the Maroma family for making our “Welcome Home” visit, for our 26th anniversary, so relaxing and special.

Love the Maroma beach at El dorado
Had a great time. Enjoyed lots of great volleyball games with Osvaldo, Mafer, Jerik, Mauricio, and Alex. The entertainment staff had us busy and vibing with dj Cris. At the end of the day we came back to our very clean room.
