    Covid 19 vacation

    We arrived on March 14-21 2020 the hotel is not far from the airport just a short cab ride. Upon arriving we were greeted by the bellman who welcomed us and told us to register and he would look after our luggage. We arrived early so our room would not be ready for sometime. We changed and went for lunch to the restaurant by the water. The property is small and dated but very clean. The food was not plentiful but what was offered was good. The wait staff were awesome. Shout out to Alex, Juan , Angel and Jose, Miguel to name a few they went above and beyond. We ate of the 7 night 4 at the Veranda the food was awesome. Our rooms were clean and sheets changed everyday that might be because of Covid19. I would say the rooms need a good cleaning and some of the furniture is rusty and needs replacing. The lampshades and couch in our room should be replaced. Also with all the focus on covid19 the air conditioning vents in the room was black and I am sure not healthy for breathing day in day out. It is not a resort that is hip and happening. If you love to snorkel and dive it’s right there on the beach. Kayaking, paddle boarding, and seadoo rentals. We enjoyed the property and how small it was, easy to access everything. We stayed in the newer part of the hotel 1603 lovely view from our room Would certainly come back to this resort Thanks

    desperate need of help

    this resort is old. definitely needs major work. first and probably the best is the staff. they are amazing! pool staff, buffet, cleaning... they are wonderful! the food is not good. this needs to be fixed. with one buffet and one restaurant that needs reservation, the food should be much, much better. i upgraded to the 9th floor and i personally think it was a waste of money. i don't feel i received anything different than anyone else. the biggest negative at the resort is the loungers, you don't have enough. when you have to set your alarm for 6:00A on your vacation to get to the pool to save a chair, that's bad. you don't have enough chairs. it might help if you didn't let the people take the chairs to their room and put them on their balcony. at 11:00A people were sitting on towels on the concrete pool deck cuz they chairs where gone. and you have to get the guests to stop saving chairs at 6:00A and not showing up till 1:00P! if the pool staff notices chairs with a towel but empty for a couple hours, take the towel and open up that chair. overall, i will not come back and will not recommend this resort to anyone.

    Arrived late afternoon, they only had 2 people behind the check in desk with people 3 and 4 deep waiting. Got to our room to find a large leak in the shower around the light on the ceiling. Also had no towels in the room. The buffet for dinner was marginal at best and for breakfast was only slightly better. My wife and i were supposed to have a "garden view" room when actually we looked out onto the childrens play ground.

    great fun in the sun

    Our room was on the 5th floor looking out at the ocean - fantastic view! The staff is Amazing. We booked 2 rooms seperately and the daytime desk manager was able to move us together. He was great to work with, i wish i remebered his name. The activities people were the best. Vanessa and Roger were engaging, friendly and fun. They made our trip! The food in then sit down restruant was delicious. The wait staff was great. We remember Angel and he was there 8 years ago when we visited. Jesus at the swim up bar did a great job keeping my beer amd my wifes rum runners full. Aldo in the buffet took good care of us also. All the staff was excellent!!

    Just Ok

    I have wanted to stay at the El Cozumeleno since it was recommended to me many years ago. It is a lovely property. And the staff works hard and is for the most part very friendly. Ice is non existent even though a lady at the front desk told me I could find it at the ice machine next to elevator. After a wild goose hunt, realized their ice machine hasn’t worked in years. Could have saved me some time If she had just been honest. My boyfriend usually buys bottled beer and I usually buy my own wine ( even though I was pleasantly surprised by the house wine offered at resort) so ice is kind of important and had we known it wasn’t available we would have bought a bag at the store which we ended up doing. There are no coffee pots or mini refrigerators in the room. To make dinner reservations at the nice restaurant you must be in line by 8 am. Otherwise you are stuck with the buffet, which for the first time at any all inclusive I have stayed at I simply could not find anything edible. Except the eggs !! I did love the eggs! You will be sharing the food trays with hungry birds, as hard as the staff tries they just can’t keep the birds out of the buffet food. Our room was clean, housekeeping very nice. The water in front of hotel was inviting, the price was right and the wine good. The live band that performed our last evening was excellent!! If you want to enjoy chairs by the main pool, sure hope you have an early riser in your group as they are all reserved by 730 am. We didn’t have anyone try to sell us timeshares, that was another plus ! We didn’t totally dislike the place but will spend a little more and stay elsewhere when we return. It wouldn’t take much to bring this place up to simple standards. And if offered to you as a cruise ship excursion- be warned you will not have a beach chair and the food in buffet is terrible.
