Do your research on this resort
I am not one to complain about my vacations, and I have stayed at a range of Hyatt properties - Secrets Cap Cana, Secrets Akumal, Secrets Wild Orchid, Secrets Royal Beach, Dreams Onyx/Breathless Punta Cana, Dreams Flora, Dreams Estrella, Dreams Cape Cozumel and I have given them all great reviews. I would return to every one of these properties, but I cannot say I would return to Dreams Sands. We enjoyed our stay, but I suppose I will start on what was subpar based on our other experiences. The biggest let down was the beach. I chose this resort specifically because of the beach, and came to find out the beach is almost non-existent. The beach is so incredibly small that there were essentially beach chairs stacked on top of one another, and due to how busy the resort was it was incredibly difficult to get a beach chair (or pool chair for that matter). Now, don’t get me wrong, it was the most incredible white sand you could imagine, but you had to walk off the resort to get to the open beaches to enjoy the beautiful sand. The other problem was the beach attendant was always taking our property. With this being a family friendly resort it doesn’t have any of the water slides or splash pads, but it was supposed to have a water trampoline, or so we read. We were given two excuses for why the trampoline wasn’t out for the kids - 1) The weather wasn’t permitting (understandable for our first few days) 2) The entertainment team was too lazy to take care of it. We were quite upset as our toddler was very excited to use the water trampoline. The next biggest let down was the room. We booked an ocean view room (only to find out every room was ocean front), and we did finally receive an upgrade into a preferred ocean front room. I would hate to see what the non preferred room looked like, because the preferred room was pretty dismal. We did not have a balcony, the shower was incredibly small and without a rainfall showerhead (petty I know, but I enjoy that luxury on vacation), there were no drawers to store our clothes, we only had a single sink, there was no incense, robes or slippers. The room had the feel of your run of the mill hotel/motel instead of the luxury we’ve come accustomed to with the other Hyatt brands we’ve enjoyed. We also did not have hot water when we arrived, and when it was fixed, rather quickly to the resort's credit, unfortunately it was then varying every few seconds between warm and scalding. This made it very difficult to bath our toddler and infant. With this resort being located in the hotel zone, we knew it’d be a different experience but we weren’t expecting to be right on top of every other resort with surrounding high rises that blocked out the sun for half of the day. It was also much busier than any of the other resorts we’ve stayed at. This atmosphere is far different than the the secluded feel of other resorts, and the hectic feel of the pools, beach, bars and restaurants. We still had a great time, but I think people should realize what they’re getting into when they book this resort. You will still get great food and service at Dreams Sands, which is where I’d like to highlight some of the employees that went above and beyond during our stay. Noe at the World Cafe was very attentive to our needs, and what we loved best was how nice he was to our young children. We also enjoyed the entertainment team, and wanted to highlight Jamie and Charlie for their efforts.

Beware!!!
Do not go if you are not part of a couple and are simply looking to have a fun vacation in Cancun!! This resort is specifically tailored for married couples and those with small children. The entertainment was very poor and most guests were in bed by 10pm. I had a very horrible experiences with the staff as well. They were very unprofessional and rude towards me when I asked them a simple question such as “how large is the portion of food?” And when I had a concern and brought it up to the concierge, she picked up the phone mid-conversation and ignored me, and the other one slammed the desk drawer and used a very rude tone. It also may seem amazing because it’s on the beach but the beach chairs are always full and reserved. The food is okay but there is a long wait time for the restaurants. Overall, not worth the money.

Family vacation
Our experience at Dreams Sands was excellent. The location is perfect, the beach is beautiful, and the entertainment—especially at the Explorer’s Club—was fantastic. A special shout-out to Mariel and Maria for being so attentive and engaging with the kids. They organized many fun activities and truly made the children excited to go every day. My child absolutely loved it, and that made our vacation even more special.

Wouldn't book again
I booked a stay with my family, excited because it's linked with Hyatt, but honestly, it was far from what I'd expect from such a brand. Traveling with my 17-month-old, I hoped for decent food and good service. Sadly, the food was a letdown: chicken nuggets were like cardboard, and even the chicken was rubbery. My little one ended up eating fries and soggy pizza for three days. The crib we requested during booking never arrived, despite asking multiple times. By day three, they flat-out said they didn’t have any available, even though I asked at check-in. The constant sales pitches were over the top—everywhere you turned, someone was trying to sell you something, and the pressure to buy activities was frustrating. We got talked into one offer, promised we'd be covered by room credit, only to be hit with charges at checkout after confirming multiple times. It turned into a real hassle. We stayed in the "old" wing, which was honestly shabby and didn’t come close to the supposedly nicer side—they wouldn’t let us switch. Front desk interaction was awkward; you asked for something, got brief replies, then they just looked at you blankly. Security was lacking too—I easily grabbed an extra key for my room without a question, and the resort doors were wide open without checks. On the bright side, the little ice cream shop saved the day by giving us milk for the baby. They've earned my gratitude. But overall, this resort is barely worth two stars, and I can't recommend it for a relaxing, high-quality stay.
