A huge disappointment, despite nice beach, good service and location. Old, “cheap” and smelly hotel.
We chose this hotel mainly because of the kids-friendly beach and pools and Kids Club 3+. We also stayed few times in Dreams in Tulum. I read the comments since months back and was aware that there will be some downsides but I thought “well, it just can’t be that bad”. Oh it was!! The hotel is old, it’s just falling apart and instead of investing in a good one time renovation, the management chooses to ignore the needs. It smells bad everywhere - chlorine by the pools, old frying oil by the restaurants, humidity in the rooms. The Buffet food is a 3 star hotel level, the queues to the restaurants in the evenings are around 40 min. Kids Club is a joke - a small room, which is also used as storage for entertainment decorations, has old and worn out toys and board games. God, how hard can it be to creat a nice, clean space filled with different stations? It’s just such a pity Hyatt management chooses a business model based on “old good fame” and presenting it as Luxury hotel, which is absurd - instead of actually creating one. Everything just feels cheap but it is far from it, price wise. The hotel has a big potential, good location, very nice beach, put a lot of effort into good service and entertainment, but fails at the core - to create overall pleasant, memorable customer experience, where guest feel safe, comfortable and get the experience they paid for. P.S. a note for hotel staff, please don’t do your typical “copy paste” comment that you will take into consideration the above info and pass it to the maintenance team as in the last past years not much seems to have changed, as per the comments that guests leave.

Great Family Resort
This is a lovely resort close to the airport with a beautiful beach. We had a Deluxe King Balcony Partial Ocean View - the view was probably only partial because of the trees but simply spectacular- ocean front to me. The resort is clean, food is good, and there are lots of activities to do. They do not take reservations for the ala carte restaurants so the wait was usually 30 mins. Bring a drink from the lobby bar and enjoy the view while you wait. We did not upgrade to Privilege- we travel 2-3 times a year to the Caribbean and never upgrade and we are never disappointed. This resort is very family friendly, and you will see a lot of littles around. The main pool was heated. Abraham was our server and drink specialist at the beach- he was always there just in time to keep my drinks filled and even got my raft blown up. (Bring a raft for the beach- the lagoon is amazing) My last morning he surprised me with an Expresso Martini- fantastic! The entertainment team was great! Lots to do and great smiles.

Must Visit!!!
The staff were INCREDIBLE!! They were so kind, generous, and made sure we had everything we needed. The people who stuck out to me were: Laura and Vanessa who worked at the bar in the preferred lounge and Michelle who was part of the entertainment crew. The rooms were extremely clean, the drinks and food were delicious, and it was overall a very positive experience. If you want to be treated like family, come here!

Not the usual Dreams experience
The Dreams collection has been a standard for us (2 parents, 2 teens) for several years--usually consistent service and amenities. During Christmas, we stayed at the Dreams Sands and were extremely disappointed. It is expensive and this review hopes to save your cost/experience. CONS Room was an outdated, in need of repair, basic hotel room with no balcony. (see room pictures). Breakfast and lunch were horrible. As preferred club guests, we had an ala carte option for breakfast, but it was no better than the crowded, limited buffet. Lunch at the buffet is sad--no fresh seafood, grilling area was mostly fajita meats, poor salad bar, little fruit, soup broths and not even a pizza to satisfy our teens. Dinner meals are better. We did enjoy eating at the Asian and Italian restaurants. One of our preferences with Dreams resorts is their "no reservation" policy. However, the wait was very long and poorly managed-we usually waited an hour+ before seating. Preferred club pool was very cold--did not see anyone use. There are two other pools with activities, but we did not use. Time share requests started at check-in. They also have outdoor events and charge for reserved seating--did not attend. PROS The beach/water here is awesome! No sargassum this time of year and crystal warm water. Easy to get a lounge chair. Staff are generally friendly- ask for our friend Noe if you are at the buffet. Crepe station near lobby was great! Beds were comfortable and no problems with air conditioning or bath water temperature/flow. Wine tasting activity was fun and enjoyed multi-cultural group. If You Go: Do be up front with time share staff about your interests and move on. Do not spend time with the "coupons" offered. They are rarely applicable and, at best, will give you $10 off a $12 bottle of J. Lohr that they are offering for $70. A few rooms have balconies (we requested at booking but not get). We did not find the Preferred Club necessary at this resort. You will be across the street from pharmacy/convenient store if needed. Transfers are not included. We recommend Happy Cancun Shuttle-always great.

Awesome beach, amazing restaurants and bars.
Dreams Sand is an amazing place, good beach, good restaurants and bars. Really enjoyed food at Himitsu, Portofino and El Patio. I can’t thank enough the entire waiting staff at those restaurants, very polite and patient. Exceptional service! Also, the check in process was so good, being a World of Hyatt member was a plus.
