Worst resort stay in 10+ years and DOZENS of resort stays.

I'd like to preface this review with a short history on our family as travelers. We have stayed extensively at MULTIPLE resorts all throughout the Caribbean. We generally stay at Excellence brand properties, but have stayed with Hyatt brands in Cancun several times over the last 2 years. We are very familiar with the "norms" at All Inclusive resorts. To say that this was our worst experience at an all inclusive would be an understatement. We booked this trip a year in advance for our Mothers 80th birthday celebration. 2 rooms were to be next door at the adults only Secrets, and one room at Dreams, since our minor niece was coming along. Here are the missteps along the way: 1. Our adults only rooms were moved to Dreams (family friendly) without notice. Apparently Secrets is undergoing renovations, and we were only notified days in advance that we were being moved to the family side of the resort. So, not the vacation that we booked. 2. Upon arrival, we were taken to the preferred club for check in. Snacks and drinks are available in the club. Probably due to the volume of children, the lounge was in disarray. Food on the floor, dirty dished piled up, trash cans overflowing. This was standard during our 4 days there. It was cleaned intermittantly, but was soon overran and cleaning was not adequate. It was completely unusable for us. What a "perk". We visited in the evenings for a drink, and there was always a wait, and not one order was correct. We always buy preferred club rooms, and this was the worst value for the "perk" 3. Since our Adults only room and resort was not available, we would have expected that this resort make one pool "adults only", and possibly at least one room at the buffet. No consideration was made at all for guests who booked at Secrets. 4. Resort policy states that pool staff will clear lounge chairs after 30 minutes of no use. We witnessed dozens of chairs be reserved with nothing more than a towel for hours on end every single morning. Some guests even had the nerve to reserve chairs with ONLY apples taken from the buffet. Staff did nothing to ensure space for people wanting to use the pool area. 5. The pool areas and landscaping were full of trash. We noted multiple discarded spoons, cups, straws, etc thrown in the landscaping for multiple days. At one point, I fished 4 plastic drinking cups out of one hot tub. Gross. One of our umbrella stands had a used bandaid stuck to it, and another lounging area had a press on nail left on it. Basically, the staff were not cleaning around the pools. 5. Someone left half eaten hamburgers in the hallway outside of our room. We had housekeeping, turn down and room service walk right by them for 2 days and just left them there. Again, gross. 6. Housekeeping, in general was OK at best. the frosted glass in our room between the shower and toilet was dirty, in an area that was most likely urine, and was not cleaned the entire time that we were there. And, there was a dead scorpion in our room that stayed with us the whole time. 7. Food - The buffet may be the worst we've had. We did not try the asian or French restaurants. We ate at the Mexican restaurant the final night. Our wait was a little over a half hour (fine & expected) but dinner service took over 2 hours for 6 people. When dinner finally arrived, some of if had clearly been under heat lamps for a while since it was dried and crusty on the edges. Again, gross. We ate at Maris (seafood) twice, one dinner and then a breakfast. The food was good, but in the light of day for breakfast, the booth behind the table we were seated at was filthy. Food smeared on it, stained cushions. Just not clean. The Brazilian steakhouse was good. Food and service was good. We arrived early to get in line. We were the third in line, and were assured by staff that they do not allow reservations, but were passed over by 3 larger groups who clearly had reservations. 8. Resort lounging areas. We were at Secrets Maroma beach a few months ago, and it featured beautiful, high end patio and bar furniture. Dreams Playa leaves so much to be desired. Low end, stained, badly worn cushions. Very limited lobby bar seating. During our stay, the bar stools pictured on the website had been removed. Pool loungers were stained as well. 9. Pool concierge and wait staff were not good. We had decent service at the grotto pool on one day. Other than that, we needed to get our own drinks, and seldom interacted with staff. 10. Guest services called our room, to check on our stay, and when I voiced these concerns, they only replied "oh, I understand" 11. For an all inclusive resort, I have never been plagued by sales tactics like this. From the time we arrived at our private transport, even at check in, we were covered up with time share sales. The lady at the airport even asked our elderly mother to pay her $20 to attend a "VIP breakfast" (sales meeting) and that she would get the $20 back after the breakfast. At check in were were offered resort credit to sit in the same breakfast. No thanks 12. Entertainment. This was the WORST possible entertainment we've witnessed. Clearly, entertainment is subjective, and some may not care for certain shows, where others may like them. But, our entertainment schedule was: Day one "Karaoke" no show at all - just karaoke. Day 2 "Galactic show" geared towards small children. Day 3 "Monday Night Football" showed on a projector screen in the courtyard. Day 4 was very windy and we did not attend the fire show. 13. In room bar service. Our in room bar was not serviced. I did contact concierge through the app for Diet Coke, and it was delivered quickly, but we payed for daily service, which never happed. We understand that this is a peak week and high occupancy, so the resort was full and busy. But this is not the vacation that we payed for, nor expected. We end up in Mexico every few months, and will never return to a Dreams property. My wife books large conferences for her business, most recently at Secrets The Vine and Secrets Maroma Beach (50+ rooms each time, plus conference rooms) and this has caused us to loose complete trust in this brand all together.

Beautiful, great amenities but not worth the price

Grounds are beautiful, amenities great, room was clean and comfortable. Though, I don't understand this trend of letting people in the room be able to see into the bathroom (they had this movable peak-a-boo wall) and be able to hear and see everything! Beach was so clean and sand was soft. The hotel was located along a strip of hotels that was "gated" which gave a sense of safety. There were several pools from ones for kids, families, or adults only. I appreciate they didn't have music blaring like a club at every pool but if that's the vibe you wanted, they had a pool for it. The staff were friendly. The kids clubs were nice too - they have one for little and separate one for teens. The food was also good for an all inclusive with a wide variety. Why no 5 stars? WHEN you get service, it's good but it's SLOW. The resort was not packed and it took 30 min to get plain nachos, for example. At one restaurant, the hostess left for almost 15 min to come back to say there was a 30 min wait. Then they call your room at random hours. Once, they called at 9 pm! Our toddler sleeps at 8. Maybe I'm conservative but why do a "house call" past 8 pm anyway? Then they try to push a time share presentation. The sales lady rubbed me the wrong way kept calling me princess and said if I were smart I'd sit through it to get a $200 voucher which probably had its limitations anyway. I really wanted to love it because I liked the grounds, beach, amenities but for the price you pay, you'd want service to be better and it just didn't cut it. I've been to a number of all-inclusive resorts around Cancun at different price points and this one was probably the worst given the service quality in comparison to the quality of hotel.

Dream stay with excellent service in Playa Mujeres

Service: A huge thank you to our pool concierge, Jaime Lagunas! He provided wonderful service and was incredibly attentive. This high standard of service was consistent across all areas of the hotel. Resort & Dining: The grounds are beautiful, very well-maintained, and spotless. The food was fantastic—everything you could possibly wish for. Location: The location is perfect if you are looking for tranquility. Being in a gated community, it feels very safe and secluded from the busy hotel zone of Cancun, yet it’s only a short drive away if you want more action. Value for Money: With the "Unlimited-Luxury" concept, you really get what you pay for. Top-shelf spirits, 24-hour room service, and the high quality of food make it worth every penny. Noise Level: Despite being a family-friendly resort, we found the atmosphere very relaxing. The layout is spacious enough that you can always find a quiet spot, and the overall noise level was pleasantly low. Point of Criticism: Unfortunately, the "sunbed phenomenon" is an issue here. It is incomprehensible to us, but some guests start reserving loungers as early as 6:00 AM. I hope management addresses this to ensure a fair experience for everyone. Conclusion: A wonderful stay in a great hotel. We highly recommend it!
