Dec 29, 2025Very Average - NOT WHAT YOU EXPECT
We stayed at the Onyx over the Christmas period and this hotel is not what you expect - from the photos it looks very spacious and clean - this is not the case at all ( SORRY) . The photos mis represent the property in my opinion the swimming pool areas is full of chairs if you are lucky enough to get one! Re the food -- the a la carte restaurants are all a waste of time ! food quality is not up to scratch and majority of all the food you are able to find at the main buffet, which is huge and has so many options to chose from!! but all the food is very average! Breakfast is the only real highlight! ( the only a la carte restaurant worth going to is the Steak house). As no restaurant reservations are taken, you need to be downstairs to wait for a table from 6pm to be able to dine at 7-7:30pm -- making reservation would be much easier!!! Cleanliness of the rooms is something that is missing in this hotel massively ( this could be just the cleaner we got), rooms cleaned to a sub standard - unable to use the balcony and bathtub due to dirt / bird poo / old cement. The staff do try hard in this hotel but all services were just a bit sub par!! I would suggest there are better resorts in Punta Cana to visit - VERY AVERAGE RESORT

Dec 28, 2025Great family resort with a few minor hick-ups.
Accommodations: The room had plenty of room and was clean. The closet in our room had a strange setup with its sliding doors, requiring you to reach around the doors to get to your things because they didn’t slide far enough. The plumbing in the shower made it difficult to capture an acceptable water temperature setting. Staff: Almost all of the staff we contacted were friendly and helpful. One of our family members did run into a rude staff member near the sand volleyball court, who felt it was ok to be rude and yell at guests because of a stray volleyball. Food: The buffet food, I would give 7 of 10. Just too much of the same thing day after day. It was somewhat difficult to find things due to the layout. There was one meal, when most every bread option was dried out and hard. Most of the restaurants had good food and good service. The exception was the Blue Dolphin Cafe. The service was slow, the spinach and artichoke dip was inedible and served with clumps of cheese in a watery mix of I don’t know what…they were sent back. It took over an hour to get our meals after placing our orders and the kitchen doesn’t come close to keeping up with the number of patrons. Activities/Shows: There’s plenty to do the resort. The kids seem to enjoy themselves, there’s plenty of pool space for everyone, and shows of some sort every night. The beach area is well kept and great for swimming and water sports.

Our family recently went on vacation here and the resort was top notch. The food, the amenities and the people were great! The staff was absolutely incredible. From day one when we met with Yokasha with guest services, to Albert, our concierge who was very attentive and made the engagement of my daughter special, to the housekeeping staff and especially the swim up bar staff. Anthony, Miguel, Felix, Yomi and Karina took time to get to know us and were the highlight of our trip! Came in looking for relaxation and family time, came away with that but also a new group of family and friends! I highly recommend the experience!

Christmas 2025
A truly magical experience. Travelling as a group of 9 for a combination of multiple big birthdays (21, 30 and 60) as well as Christmas with ages ranging from 15 through to 80years of ages, the hotel met all of our needs and more. The staff are incredible friendly and attentive and nothing was too much of an ask. The restraint staff in the buffet and specialist restaurants could not do more to help guests and to make every experience enjoyable. The pool area is clean and not too over crowded and the beach is simply stunning. I would definitely recommend the Deams Onyx resort to friends and family. A truly magical time was had by all. Thank you to the Onyx team for making our stay so memorable.

I wouldn’t wish what we experienced at this resort in my worst enemy. The customer service from the moment we arrived was abysmal. The rudeness we encountered was unbelievable. We were treated like criminals and made to pay an additional $1750 on the spot because apparently we claimed our 3 kids were all 3yrs old on the booking site 😂!! Wow! We have a 14,12 & 4yr old - how would we have been planning to get away with that? When we asked for proof they wouldn’t give it but ordered us to pay for our 14 yr old as an adult. They refused to account for what we’d already paid because apparently our booking was re routed to a third party site without us realising. No amount of explaining made a difference. We were in that reception for 2hrs after travelling over 10hrs with a special needs kid who was extremely erratic and a 4yr old. They didn’t care, just acted like we must be criminals who planned to get away with not paying full price for our 14yr old. They have you trapped with no way out. They were unbelievably rude and dismissive - in the end we are convinced there’s a scam going on. When we checked out we asked for all our receipts and proof of our supposed booking for 3 x 3yr olds and they wouldn’t print anything off. They gave us a written receipt and printed off something they typed up in Microsoft word. We’ve lodged a fraud claim with our bank. Apart from this, the food there is mediocre at best and the drinks are very watered down. The property itself, beach and pool are all nice. If you do decide to go, make 💯 sure you book on the Hyatt website and aren’t re routed to a 3rd party site. I would go so far as to call and book on the phone. Personally I would never recommend this place to anyone - customer service is a basic thing & when you fail at that you fail at everything else.
