More like Nightmares Onyx
I wouldn’t wish what we experienced at this resort in my worst enemy. The customer service from the moment we arrived was abysmal. The rudeness we encountered was unbelievable. We were treated like criminals and made to pay an additional $1750 on the spot because apparently we claimed our 3 kids were all 3yrs old on the booking site 😂!! Wow! We have a 14,12 & 4yr old - how would we have been planning to get away with that? When we asked for proof they wouldn’t give it but ordered us to pay for our 14 yr old as an adult. They refused to account for what we’d already paid because apparently our booking was re routed to a third party site without us realising. No amount of explaining made a difference. We were in that reception for 2hrs after travelling over 10hrs with a special needs kid who was extremely erratic and a 4yr old. They didn’t care, just acted like we must be criminals who planned to get away with not paying full price for our 14yr old. They have you trapped with no way out. They were unbelievably rude and dismissive - in the end we are convinced there’s a scam going on. When we checked out we asked for all our receipts and proof of our supposed booking for 3 x 3yr olds and they wouldn’t print anything off. They gave us a written receipt and printed off something they typed up in Microsoft word. We’ve lodged a fraud claim with our bank. Apart from this, the food there is mediocre at best and the drinks are very watered down. The property itself, beach and pool are all nice. If you do decide to go, make 💯 sure you book on the Hyatt website and aren’t re routed to a 3rd party site. I would go so far as to call and book on the phone. Personally I would never recommend this place to anyone - customer service is a basic thing & when you fail at that you fail at everything else.

Christmas in Paradise
Christmas Vacation in Dreams Onyx in 2025! I'll let you know that this was another fantastic visit to one of our favorite resorts. We haven't been back since April 2021, when we had our wedding here. So it had a different feel post-COVID: more people, a lot more buzz, and more things to do. After getting off the bus, we were welcomed with a warm reception and taken directly to the Preferred Club check-in. Champagne and Sprite with Blue food coloring for the baby girl. 😂 After the warm check-in, the fun began. Since it was Christmas, we had to book our dinner early because everyone was eating at the same two spots. After booking through our Butler Elias, everything is set for dinner this week. We went straight to the buffet to eat. With a Buffett, there are hits and misses just like any restaurant or resort. But let me tell you, if you head over to the Dominican section, the pork chops are some of the best I have ever had. My favorite restaurant is Spice, and the Mediterranean spot is also great. Boom, early as well. For the adults, my favorite Bars are definitely the Preferred in the main lobby after dinner. Ronni, the bartender, is excellent, and he knows his liquors. My father-in-law and I spent every evening there. Now, in the afternoon, before dinner, you have to kick it with Alejandro, Peter, and Nelis down in the Adults area. There's a preferred swim-up bar by the beach. The Preferred pool-view room was, as expected, very nice. Just as we remembered it 5 years ago. Our room was always clean. Nuris did a great job keeping us supplied with what we needed throughout the week. Elías Butler did a fantastic job when we needed something; he had our back. From ordering multiple cakes for our daughters' birthday to reserving dinners, we were on it.

2nd Visit- Not likely to return
Overall, we found this trip was not worth the high cost. The resort appeared understaffed, and the level of service reflected that—staff generally did not go out of their way to enhance the guest experience. Evening entertainment was lacklustre, and there was very little engagement from the entertainment team during the day. This is not a resort we would recommend for families with older teens, as there were few activities available and no equipment (such as balls) provided to encourage participation. We also only discovered on our final day that body boards could be signed out at the beach, which was disappointing, as this would have been a highlight had we known earlier. That said, the body boards were greatly appreciated once we were made aware of them. Now that the kids will both be over 18 yrs old we will transition to adult only.

Excellence All Around
Our family of five had two connecting rooms, a junior and senior suite, each with a balcony and a hot tub. The rooms are spacious, with a double sink and separate shower. The mattresses are very comfortable. There is a refrigerator in the room that is stocked with pop, water, and beer. We had a butler, because we are Hyatt VIP. Shout out to Breilin, our butler, who was very friendly and attentive to our needs. There is a huge buffet with every imaginable kind of food, as well as a kids corner. There are seven restaurants in addition to the Carnival buffet where we ate breakfast and lunch. They give excellent care regarding food allergies, made special food upon request, and even gave us a card to show with the food allergies. The white sand beach is clean and public, so you can go for long walks. While there are vendors on the beach, they all have been approved and wear DR shirts. There are a number of swimming pools and a water park which the kids loved. We were here for Christmas and the resort went all out with a special dinner and Santa on the beach giving gifts. They had some fun activities for kids and they do have a kids club. While it’s a big property, it never felt crowded. The beach if very safe and paroled by a cop on a sand vehicle. In addition, each resort has security. While there is entertainment, it’s below par.

Excellent December 2025 vacation from a horribly cold Canadian winter.
Excellent, classey resort, overall great experience. The staff were exceptional, always accommodating and welcoming. Especially enjoyed the variety of restaurants, including Barefoot Grill on the beach. Most of our time was enjoying the Lazy River. There were always plenty of lounge chairs available at both the Lazy River promenade and at the beach. The walk up bars were awesome, and all the staff we interacted with were exceptional and entertaining.
