highly recommend
Our holiday from start to finish was excellent. we had a swim out room in block 5 which i would recommend. We dined at The Steakhouse, Capers (Italian) twice, Spice (Asian) twice and Faire. all were great, favourite was Spice and Capers. Our butler Emilio was great, checked in with us every day and took care of our restaurant bookings. All staff were excellent, always looked happy to be at work. We were quoted $330 for a trip to saona island with amstar, we ended up finding the same trip through get your guide for $150 overall would recommend this resort.

Okish Resort, Bad food
The dining experience at this resort did not meet expectations. The buffet options were quite limited, with meals often tasting overly salty and lacking variety. After a few days, the selections felt repetitive, I have been to resorts where they had theme dinners at the buffet to keep things exciting. The Blue Water Grill stood out as the only restaurant where the meals were consistently manageable and enjoyable. Breakfast options, however, were disappointing, I found myself sticking to eggs. The sourdough-based pancakes and waffles were not well received, especially by my children. The beverage selection was also underwhelming, with most drinks tasting diluted and lacking the expected flavor. While the resort offers a pleasant atmosphere, the quality and variety of food and drinks left much to be desired.

Dreams Onyx Resort & Spa: Family Fun in the Sun (Even with a Few Hiccups!)
My wife, our three energetic kids (ages 5-10), and four other families descended on Dreams Onyx over Presidents' Day weekend, and let me tell you—it was a total blast! We were all there chasing that perfect mix of relaxation and kid-approved chaos, and this all-inclusive gem delivered big time. From lazy river loops to sunset dinners, we left with sandy toes, full bellies, and zero regrets (well, almost). If you're traveling with a crew like ours, here's the real scoop from our five-night stay: The Lazy River Life-Saver: Parents, listen up—don't stress packing those bulky pool floats! The lazy river had tubes galore every single time we floated by. We even spotted extras chilling in the hallways from folks who'd wrapped up early, but we never had to snag 'em because supply was spot-on. Our kids could have lapped that thing for hours without a single "But Mom, I forgot mine!" meltdown. Total win for hassle-free water fun. Dining Done Right: The restaurants? Chef's kiss across the board. We hit up everything from beachside grills to fancy Italian nights, and reservations were a breeze—as long as you roll in within the first 30 minutes of opening. No elbowing crowds or endless waits; just solid, flavorful meals that kept even our pickiest eaters grinning. Pro tip: The ceviche spot is a must for seafood lovers. Staff Shines Bright: Shoutout to the team here—they're the heart of the place. From the housekeeping crew leaving towel animals that had our kids squealing to the bartenders whipping up mocktails on the fly, everyone was warm, attentive, and genuinely stoked to make our trip epic. It made the whole vibe feel like one big family reunion. A couple of honest notes for the full picture: The ocean water isn't that crystal-clear turquoise dream (think more murky green)—if snorkeling in gin-clear waves is your jam, hop over to Isla Mujeres for a day trip. And the non-motorized watersports hut? It's a bit understaffed and felt kinda meh about letting you snag the sailboat without shelling out for a lesson. We skipped it, but heads up if sailing's on your list. Check-in dragged a tad longer than ideal (about 45 minutes with a lobby full of families), but a welcome drink and some live music smoothed it over quick. Overall, Dreams Onyx nailed the family-all-inclusive formula with style and ease—we'd 100% come back for more poolside pandemonium. If you're after non-stop activities, killer food, and that "ahh" resort glow, book it. 4.5/5 stars from our squad!

Excellent experience
Our flight was cancelled on 11/8/25. United Airlines provided the hotel stay and transportation to this gorgeous resort! The customer service was fantastic, and the room was beautiful! It had a Nespresso machine, mini bar was properly stocked, they had all the little amenities a resort should have, shave kits, vanity pack etc... I wish I had stayed here for my vacation instead of the horrendous Iberostar Selection Suites (aka villa/motel). Fantastic breakfast buffet! It was just an overnight, but it was great! The bed was so comfortable, A/C was fantastic.
