    Great family trip!

Had an awesome vacation with my wife and two kids. Contruction next door didn’t bother us at all. Property was very nice, pools and activities were fun for adults and kids. Shows were very entertaining. But the hotel staff made the vacation very special. Huge shout out to Domingo who helped us with so much throughout our trip. The vacation would have not been the same without him! Also shout out to baby face and Victor from the entertainment team and Narkin and Geisy at the Barracuda bar.

    Almost Perfect!

We just returned as a family of 6 (3 adults/3 kids) from Dreams Macao Beach. The overall experience was great but there were some misses that could easily be improved upon. The location of the resort is wonderful - it is slightly further from the airport but is located on a quiet beach surrounded by even quieter public beaches. The view from the beach includes some beautiful cliffs. The resort itself, including the rooms, is immaculate. Everything was spotless and well manicured. Our room was on the side of the property where a new hotel is being built. Other than having a view of construction, it really didn't bother us. The work wasn't too noisy and we weren't in the room enough to care. We also knew this was a possibility as we booked fairly last minute. Check in was quick and easy. The food was also excellent. On our first night we arrived late and ordered room service, which was not very good. Thankfully things quickly improved! We ate at Oceana most days for breakfast and lunch, and for dinner we chose El Patio, Portofino, and Himitsu, both for the regular table service and the hibachi. The food and service at all of these locations was excellent. Tacos from the taco truck were also great but a bit of a walk from the beach and main pool. We made frequent visits for snacks at the Preferred Lounge, and hit Coco Cafe for ice cream and iced coffees daily. I didn't expect to use the Preferred Lounge at all but they kept a rotating selection of small bites stocked throughout the day and evening so it was a convenient stop between meals or before dinner. The kids appreciated the cookies and sweets there as well. The wine that came with the all inclusive package was not good - anything drinkable was an upgrade, but we survived. The main breakfast and lunch options are buffet style unless you upgrade to Preferred Club. On our first day, we tried Barefoot Grill, which is buffet style outside by the pool, for lunch were not too impressed. We also ended up at World Cafe for breakfast by mistake as we thought we were going to El Patio, which is open for breakfast and lunch for Preferred Club guests. That day El Patio was apparently closed and was being used for extended buffet seating. We were not looking for a buffet so weren't happy with that. Entertainment at the pool and at night was fun and kid friendly. Throughout the day there were water aerobics, acrobatic performances, and other fun activities. At night, the kids loved learning new dance moves. The kids knew all of the entertainment staff by name by the end of our trip. We didn't use the kids club so can't comment on that, but they seem to have a ton of activities. There were a few areas where if improved, could make this a 5 star rating. First, the housekeeping, while very thorough, often came late in the day just as we were getting back to the pool to get ready for dinner. They did a great job with requests (for example, I asked for a cot for our room and it appeared almost immediately) but kept leaving us with no towels for some reason? Second, the Preferred Pool had very limited seating and it didn't seem like there was anyone verifying that guests were in fact Preferred Club guests. We were able to find seats at the bigger pool most days, but even this was a challenge as guests laid out towels super early in the morning and often never even came to sit in the chairs! The restaurant reservation system was also odd. We were initially told that you only need reservations for the hibachi tables and otherwise to just show up. With young kids, we like to eat on the earlier side, along with every other family on the resort. The first night we got to dinner when it opened and were 2nd in line but had to wait 25 minutes to sit down because they were trying to sort out reservations. We asked to make a reservation the following night and were told that the restaurants don't take reservations. We were confused and explained that people had reservations the night before and after a bit of back and forth we finally were able to make a reservation for each night through our Preferred Club butler. It was strange to have to ask several times and be pretty insistent to get a reservation when that is something they clearly offer? It felt like a secret that you had to "complain" in order to get. Finally, the communication on excursions needs improvement. We went on what was supposed to be a half day catamaran trip, and chose to add on a lagoon visit which we were told would take another hour. Unfortunately the "20 minute" bus ride to the catamaran took 2 hours because we had to stop several times to pick up other guests. We got to the boat late and as a result the excursion itself was cut short. When we asked how long the lagoon would take, we were told it was another 3 hours, not the hour we were told at the hotel. We ended up skipping it and coming back to the hotel. We were disappointed that our last day at the resort got eaten up by a full day excursion that we were thinking would only be a half day. A lot of this was the excursion company's fault but the communication about timing could have been improved.

    Resort tired and experience 'meh'.

Overall, experience not bad but not great. Middle of the road. A little, 'meh". The resort is tired. For clarity, this is not an opinion on the maintenance, the cleanliness, the grounds. It is the resort is showing it's age. Walls having many marks. Grouting on tiles in bathroom discoloured. Rust on hinges. Just tired. Clean. But tired. Many parasols are ripped or damaged or unable to be fully deployed for the design purpose. Shade. The sun beds are metal ones with a suspect rachet mechanism. Again, some damaged and not replaced. But unless you are out, putting your worn towels out whilst still dark, I kid you not, you may struggle to get one. Many groups with their nominated bed hogger, putting towels & bags on 5 or 10 or 15 before 7. Yes, 7. Seven o'clock in the morning. Lots of signs about, detailing timescales on removal if not used, which seems to be clearly avoided by the use of 'tips'. With regards to tips, lots of notes and comments on this and other social media about them. Some tip to reward good service. Some tip to get a service. Some tip for something in between. Majority of staff here seem to not expect a tip and seem genuinely appreciative if received. However, there is a number of staff who seemed to only 'turn up' for a tip. Provide a different service. Give different options, specifically drinks. One example being one of the bars which I went to and asked about the documented upgraded preferred drinks and was told none. 5 minutes later, handing out branded drinks quite happily. After being tipped by a group. When I was still sat at the bar. For restaurants, hit and miss. Taco truck, fantastic. Breakfast buffet, great and service great in preferred area. Seaside Grill, good food. Coco Coffee, great and 24/7. Now the not so good. El Paso Mexican. Rude. Dismissive. No starters. 2 of 4 dishes inedible. When raised to staff. Really could not give a proverbial toss. Walked out and did not bother with dessert. For the Italian, starters fresh and good. Pizza? Awful. Expecting loads of cheap pizza boxes outside in the refuse. Italian restaurant pizzas should be full of toppings and crispy base. Here? Awful. Desserts good. Himitsu? Butler made booking and due to error on hotels part, not with front of house. Front of house was rude and made us feel fraudulent and embarrassed. We walked off. Another try the following night. Arrived early. Butler arrived early and confirmed with front of house booking. Then ignored by front of house, who then disappeared inside. Some commotion in restaurant, no update. Eventually seated 15" after booking. No information. No apology. Nothing. Teppenaki show ok. Not great. Ok. Other table, more interactive. Did we have a substitute/ stand in and that is the reason for the commotion? No idea. No communication. Kids loved waterpark. Lots of staff keeping the resort tidy. Majority of staff fantastic and appreciative. Beach was well maintained and views great. Overall, a long journey from the UK for a week of 'meh'. To tie off the last memory. My 9 & 11 year old girls went to get a bottle of water from the lounge bar prior to transfer back to airport. Not acknowledged by three staff chatting at end of bar and when they went to ask, they seemed annoyed that their conversation was interrupted. By a customer. Which really sums up the negative part of our experience at Dreams Macao. I am sure if I taught my girls to wave a few dollars in the air, they would have been served with a smile promptly and not a begrudging attitude experienced.

    Fantastic family and friend vacation

We had a fantastic time in Dreams Macao. The resort was clean, there was an assortment of food, the staff was friendly and helpful. We booked a preferred room and our butler Domingo was amazing. He responded to all of our questions and helped us navigate the resort.
