  Peaceful, a little too peaceful.

  It’s a beautiful resort with clean, well-kept rooms, all facing the ocean. The staff were super friendly and welcoming. The pools were heated, the water slides were fun, and while the lazy river was pretty cold, it was still a cool feature. We didn’t have a swim-up room, but they looked really nice, and were heated as well and were blocked off from the main pool areas. That said, this isn’t the place to come if you’re looking for a party vibe. During the day, there were a few scheduled activities, but no party staff hyping people up or creating a fun pool atmosphere, and no music at the swim-up bars. At other resorts, there’s usually a team keeping things lively throughout the day, but that just doesn’t really happen here. In the evenings, there are shows, but they’re pretty tame—mostly dance performances with not much variety or wow factor. After the shows, the only spot to grab drinks is the Sports Lounge, which is small and fills up fast. It looked like it could be turned into a disco, but we were told they don’t do that. There also weren’t enough bartenders or bars throughout the resort, so you often end up standing in line longer than you’d want. I also would have loved to see drink menus—half the time you’re not sure what’s even available. We were a group of 10 in our 40s, traveling without kids and hoping for a more fun, social atmosphere. One more thing to mention: the resort is very windy. Because of how it faces the ocean, the wind really blows through the property with very little protection. Luckily the pools are heated and still feel nice to be in. Overall, it’s a great resort if you’re looking to relax and unwind—but I wouldn’t recommend it for party-goers or anyone looking for a lively atmosphere.

  Golf and Relax

  Our double room in the preferred section was FABULOUS! Clean, spacious and comfortable. Beautiful sunsets! It was hot when the sun was out, but a bit cooler than we expected with wind and occasional cloudy times. Pack accordingly. The golf course across the street was GREAT! Very easy to access.

  Great newer resort

  My husband and I just returned from a week at Dreams Estrella del Mar Matzalan. It’s a resort that has been open for a little over a year. This was our first trip to Matzalan and we really enjoyed ourselves. We went to town a day and did a 4 wheeler excursion another day. We traveled with a large group on an incentive trip from one of the suppliers we use in one of our businesses. The resort is set along a stretch of the ocean. All rooms have beautiful ocean views. We saw pods of dolphins several days. We stayed in the Preferred Adults Only Building. We loved the Preferred Adults only pool right outside of our room. The first few days the water was chilly but they worked on it and by the end of our stay it was comfortable. We enjoyed the swim out at couple of times from our friend’s room, this water was very warm and it was out of the wind. In both the swim out and pool we received amazing service from Hernden. The Preferred Lounge was big and had excellent service. Bar tender, Gilberto, with his exceptional pouring skills was awesome, however, bar tender, Juel, was the best we ever have had. He has some speciality drinks that were incredible. This resort is blessed to have him. Since we were with the group and someone else made our reservation we did not travel under our membership, but Erik and the UVC staff treated us so well and allowed all of our privileges anyway. One of our favorite waiters was Jesus at the Mexican restaurant. Choice of restaurants was small and it was unfortunate the Mexican was only open twice a week. They did have a Taco Fest one night and Mexican buffet another. We did the hydrotherapy and massages at the spa - I neglected to write down the name of the gal at the front desk but she was one of the sweetest people I have ever encountered at a resort. The massage I got from Brisaida was excellent. We will definitely return to this resort. The message system through the app was so easy to use and we got quick response every time we needed something. I have 2 complaints that we did share with UVC. First, the food at the buffet and at time in the restaurants was cold - not even like warm. We did have some nice hot food at breakfast one morning but every other tome at the buffet food was not hot. Second, the preferred pool bar and lounge consistently ran out of specific liquors. Overall a great resort!

  Beautiful spot

  My wife booked a preferred swim out room- it was a large room with a king size bed and a pull out couch. The swim up pool was shared amongst 5 other room but we hardly ever saw anyone out there.this pool was cooler than the others which was very appreciated on hotter days. The big pools are heated- very warm which works well as the wind can be cold. Lazy river is colder and very lazy. The slides are FAST. If you’re not careful. Ocean is amazing to play in the waves- knee deep was enough for us- the waves would crash in and knock us over. It’s a beautiful, smaller resort- staff are super friendly and accommodating- don’t be afraid to ask if you feel you’re missing anything. I was surprised to see that most don’t speak much English which allowed me to practice my Spanish! Food was good - Service varied- 3 staples for me were -Sandra at the omelette bar, this woman is always smiling and a ray of positivity to art your day- she makes a mean omelette too. At the Sugar reef bar- we had Roberto as a bartender and Hernan as a waiter. These two were gems, great conversation and recommendations from Hernan and while Roberto wasn’t as chatty- he put in extra steps to make amazing drinks. Location is awesome in respect to distance from the airport. A quick 15 minute drive, but there isn’t much around. There are planned activities and the evening entertainment is on point. We spent 5 days at the pool and 2 days exploring. A taxi into Mazatlan will be 600 pesos and about 45 minutes. To return, We ended up taking the ferry to stone island and another taxi back from there (that one was 400 pesos ( you’ll likely need to negotiate that one) Mazatlan is a pretty city - feels like a small town but is very lively in the evenings. it’s worth looking up what activities are happening in town and plan your visit accordingly.

  Had a great time! Would definitely go back!

  This is such a beautiful resort. Is there growing pains, yes. But overall just beautiful. Food was excellent, rooms were beautiful, the view was breathtaking. We watched dolphins and whales from our balcony. Housekeeping needs a bit more work. We didn’t always have towels or something was missed. Sweeping or vacuuming should be done daily too which it wasn’t. Our mini fridge was only refilled once and then we had to ask for it to be filled again which was really disappointing. Especially with water. Didn’t leave enough for us. Loved the restaurants. No complaints there. Maybe a bit short staffed again but hopefully that changes. Quieter resort. Great family resort. Felt super safe here. There were shows on the weekend but not during the week. They had karaoke one night and bingo a few nights. They set up a few casino tables too. We were here during a quiet week so maybe it changes when it’s busy. Ocean is not swimmable. Beautiful but not swimmable.
