Amazing but expensive extras
I was pleasantly suprised by the hotel and the good food during our stay. Service by was great. Shout out to concierge service for helping me find my phone! Special thanks to Portifino staff for making my partners birthday special. The ocean has waves but it is still swimmable, I was suprised to see very few went in. Gym facility was great A special thank you for Jose from Portifino. Also all the house keeping staff that have made our room clean and comfortable The only down side is if you are coming from Canada don't even think about using the ATM, when I was tring to withdraw money it has a service fee of USD 97..what the actual! Oh and it only gives out USD for a very crappy exchange rate. I say bring all the small change for tips right from home. The shop on the resort also charges exhubrant amou t of money and I would not use my credit card. a plastic beach bucket costed me CAD 41. Laundary service for 5 items of light clothing costed me CAD 62.

We will be back!
We absolutely loved our stay at Dreams Estrella del Mar! My husband, myself and our two kids (almost 2 and almost 5) stayed here for a week in January and are so happy we chose to stay here. Our hotel room (the preferred club king room with living room) was unreal, definitely exceeded our expectations! Everything was very clean, blackout curtains were very much appreciated as parents of two little ones and all the amenities in the room were great. The food was great, lots of options (also for the kids) and the staff everywhere was so great. Yulisa in the pool area made sure everyone had what they needed & was comfortable (my son fell in love with her), she went above and beyond to ensure everyone was enjoying their vacation. The waiters and bartenders were lovely (big shout out to Jesus and Lucio at El Patio!). I can't say enough good things about this resort, we will definitely return one day!

Awesome holiday
Went as a group of 16. Had swim out rooms which were great for kids and adults. Service was great in all areas of resort. Buffet was very good with food selection. Also had 4 restaurants on site. The entertainment division had nightly shows , daily aquatic exercises. Yoga was also available. Great beach, golf course and turtle sanctuary. Had a great time.

Last week of January 2026, quiet and lovely
The beds are fantastic, best we have ever had in Mexico. The resort is very secluded though. 35 minutes into Mazatlan, which makes it pricey to go into town. Our group did go to town a few days, but you are more inclined to limit the day trips because of how far out it is. There is almost no evening nightlife or atmosphere. A few evenings there was quiet music in the corner of the restaurant… or someone playing a saxophone standing in the outdoor lobby but in general the resort is completely shut down by 10PM. 8PM even on some nights. This might be exactly what you are looking for, or disappointing depending on your reason for visiting. Food was solid, quite a few nice dinners. Room service menu is horrible. The smallest menu I think I have seen, for example: breakfast offers: oatmeal, fruit plate, pastry plate, 2 eggs cooked with beans, and pancakes. That’s it. No meat at all, very light. Lunch has a quesadilla, burger, wings, and a fish plate. No clubhouse sandwiches… or tacos… or nachos. Just very, very limiting. We ordered it once— and then after that, there wasn’t anything appealing on the menu. Sandra at the omelette station was a ray of sunshine every morning! She speaks English well, greets you with a style and whips up terrific omelettes. She was consistently happy every single morning! Thank you Sandra for the standout service! We will miss those omelettes. Alcohol selection was great, lots of tasty drinks. Pools are absolutely gorgeous, clean and huge! The Preferred club pool is lovely… but all are great really. Excelllent wait staff around the pool deck. You are not able to swim in the ocean at this resort, waves and riptide are pronounced. But the pools make up for it. Rooms are beautiful, clean and absolutely no insects.

Disappointed, not the 5 Star We Expected
Unfortunately not the 5 Star experience that we were hoping for. We stayed for 1 week with our family and then 1 week just my husband and I. Upon arrival it was clear that this was not a newer resort, though it was clean, the grounds could have used some repair/refresh. We upgraded to premier and we still don't know what that upgrade provided. It appeared that they were short on staff, and some of the staff that greeted us were more interested in getting us to attend a presentation for UCI, than making our trip a 5 star experience. The food quality was okay and had variety, though at certain restaurants they ran out of menu items during our stay and food was never hot, always tepid. The rooms were clean and tidy, no complaints. The mini-bar was hit or miss as to whether it was replenished or not. I can not comment on the available activities, as we were never sure when and if they were happening. Be prepared to spend ++ on taxi's if you want to visit Mazatlán, as there is no available public transit from the resort to town. I was hoping that I could give a better review as I was hoping that we would have a truly 5 star experience. As an avid traveler to Mexico, I would say that this resort was a 4 star at best.
