- Other Local AttractionsCozumel is rich in history and natural wonders. Popular destinations include ancient Mayan temples on the north side of the Island; the sanctuary to Ix- Chel -the fertility goddess- in San Gervasio and the Museum of the Island of Cozumel, with its colorful displays of underwater reefs and other Island treasures. At El Cedral, on the south side of the Island, the oldest Maya structure on Cozumel built in A.D. 800 can be found. Nearby a towering lighthouse at Punta Sur offers a 360-degree view of the Island.
Cozumel is habitat to many nature reserves: the Cozumel Marine Reef National Park, Chankanaab Park and Lagoon, and Punta Sur. Botanical gardens at Chankanaab Park display 350 different types of tropical plants from more than 20 countries. Another attraction is the dolphin aquarium, treating visitors to a close-encounter with playful dolphins. Punta Sur is a new eco-tourist park for visitors interested in learning about the Island's native flora and fauna. Encircling a region known as Colombia Lagoon, Punta Sur is a unique setting of mangrove jungles, white sandy beaches and reef formations. The Park's information center allows visitors to watch a 20-minute video and learn about different eco-systems, environment and native birds, turtles, alligators, fish and coral in the Park. At the information center, visitors can rent electric bikes to explore Punta Sur on their own.

Off season is a bit disappointing
We went during the slow season (early Oct) and there was only 2 places in the hotel to get food not the 6 they boast on the website. They were all closed for construction. Some warning would have been nice so we knew what to expect. The buffet although it was a different theme each night served different variations on beans, rice, chicken, pasta, and pizza. They didn't have the typical chef specialties of the past which were always a treat. So it became repetitive quickly. And it wasn't restocked at all, as you got within an hour of closing, there would be little left. It is important to know it is an open air hotel meaning no air conditioning except in the lobby bar, lobby restaurant (which was closed), and your room. So we had to go to our room for any comfort. Rooms are comfortable and clean but the bathrooms are scary small. You can put your eye out on the towel hook when you stand up from the toilet if you are not careful. And our shower leaked flooding the bathroom with each shower. No hot water for the first 3 days of the stay, it did improve by the end. If you are a diver and just want to dive, this is your place. You can get food when you need it but no variety. Within walking distance to the city center so if you like the cheaper price tag and are willing to go off property for most meals, this might work too.

Back again at Hotel Cozumel
The rooms are spacious and set up for diving. I have been going to the Hotel Cozumel for about 20 years. The hotel is close to town and shopping. The diving there is the best in the Caribbean. The shore diving is good at the hotel also. The food there isn't the greatest but town is nearby and there is many good restaurants.

Big Resort Amenities with a Personal Touch
I spent 5 years living and working on cruise ships and have visited resorts all throughout Mexico and the Caribbean. I share that because I think it’s important to note that the guy leaving this review actually knows what the heck he’s talking about. My wife and I visited Cozumel Hotel and Resort back in February and loved it so much we returned with the entire family to celebrate my parents 50th anniversary. While it’s true that this is an older resort, I have nothing else negative to say about the place. The facilities are always clean and the food is consistently great. But the staff… truly OUTSTANDING! A few people who really caught our attention are Cornelio (server), Suny (activity staff), Juan (server), Alexis (front desk), Miranda (server), Gustavo (bar tender), Angel (jewelry kiosk), Pepito (cigar kiosk), Jesus (bar tender) and the housekeeping staff for room 1112. I’d also like to acknowledge the chefs and their teams who worked tirelessly to keep us fed – as well as the people who maintain the property, who were battling the heat and humidity every single day to keep the place looking great. Everywhere we looked, people were diligently working and were always friendly as we passed by. Even when most of the Yucatan Peninsula lost power for nearly 4 hours, it was clear the resort was ready. The staff simply activated their emergency plan, with little to no impact to their guests. In a resort that operates this smoothly, I was able to do what I needed to do: Up at 5. Grab a quick coffee at the front desk, then back to my room. Some say the internet is problematic, but that was not my experience. Worked 2 hours per day for 5 straight days using my VPN and the hotel WIFI – and not a single issue. Then breakfast with the family overlooking the ocean, and off to the pool. A poolside lunch followed by some snorkeling using the resorts’ free gear. After a quick shower, it’s off to dinner and a show. Conclude the day with a restful sleep so I can get up and do it all again. Sprinkle in a few cordials, excursions, and shopping along the way… done and done. Honestly, what else do you need? The place is located just a few blocks south of downtown, and a few miles north of the Royal and Carnival docks, so everything else is literally within arm’s reach. Cozumel Hotel and Resort offers all the big resort amenities - with the personal touch of a family-owned bed and breakfast.

NO INTERNET AT ROOMS
There is no internet at the rooms, this is unbelievable. How much could the hotel spend on routers to achieve this basic need?

Homey, comfortable hotel and super staff
The staff were super nice! Special thank you to Yesi (our new game player) , Edgar, Suny, Juanita, Manuel, Comelio, and Valentin, and all the sweetheart girls around the pool serving drinks and food. You never want or wait for anything. Really super!
