  Old Town Vibe & Nice Hotel that did not disappoint

  First trip to the Big Island but many trips to the other Hawaiian Islands. What I love about this hotel during my stay based off my Beach Front accommodations: I'll try to keep my review short. 1. Beach Front Hotel (Pay the extra for a beach front room, the views are amazing) 2. One of the only hotels on the island that has a true beach adjacent to the property where you can enjoy any hours of your stay. 3. Wonderful salt water hotel pool (warm during a 9:45pm swim, plus for me). 4. Live music everyday of my stay. 5. Spacious room w/ balcony chairs and tables. 6. Lovely clean, decorated Hawaii style them hotel throughout 7. Tennis courts 8. Best location to stay for walkable restaurants and being in the heart of downtown Kona. 9. Almost all of the hotel staff we encounter were very friendly. As for my dislikes, I don't really have anything to share at this time. I left a lot more out of this review but everyone gets the logistics of my review. If you're like me and spends days on researching hotels and house rentals, I hope my review helps! Yes, I would return to this hotel again. It's the perfect hotel for what I was looking for; Restaurants, low key downtown vibe, short distance to attractions & airport, all my required hotel amenities on site. I didn't want or need an extraordinarily big hotel to have a perfect vacation. This one was for me :)

  Housekeeping sucks

  The location of the hotel is great but the staff ruin the experience. I am a pilot scheduled to fly an all nighter and despite the very obvious Do Not Disturb sign on the door, housekeeping tries to rip the door open. Gets my heart racing and scares the daylights out of me, now I’m wide awake. Who likes tired pilots or canceled or delayed trips because the crew got no rest? You can thank this hotel.

  Disappointing!!

  This hotel has a good location central to shopping, dining, and nightlife in Kailua Kona. But that’s not enough to offset their housing of ICE agents, which is a huge disappointment and does not reflect the values of the community, nor the County or State of Hawai'i. Before booking here, please consider if this is what you want your hard earned dollars to support.

  Birds Overran the Breakfast Buffet

  Purchased the buffet package 6-months in advance. Could not have fathomed that the buffet would be overrun by birds. Staff couldn’t even scare them off because the birds clearly had learned how to keep coming back for food. At one point, I went to get my 2 year old daughter cereal and there was a bird on the cereal dispensers picking at the food. I even witnessed them along the buffet counter. I was in luxury hotel industry and this bird infestation is a serious problem. Like shut down from the health inspector kind of problem unless a solution is implemented - maybe a trained falcon?

  Disappointing Stay at a Marriott Property – Poor Housekeeping & Communication

  We stayed at the Courtyard King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel for 3 nights in June 2025, and it was unfortunately the worst hotel experience of our entire Hawaii trip. Despite being a Marriott property, the room was never cleaned during our entire stay. We checked in on June 6 and noticed the coffee machine was broken on the 7th. We assumed housekeeping would handle it—but nothing was cleaned or fixed. When I called the front desk, I was told housekeeping is only available every other day—something that was never mentioned at check-in. By the 8th night, the room was still a mess, the coffee machine still broken, and the shower had flooded the bathroom floor due to poor design. We also noticed a dead bug on the lamp that stayed with us throughout the trip and a malfunctioning AC monitor that made adjusting the temperature impossible. I tried to raise these concerns again when we checked out early on the 9th. The front desk apologized and said they’d follow up with a compensation plan—but it’s now been over a month with no response. That lack of follow-through is shocking from a Marriott. Even the concierge service—outsourced to a third party—was unhelpful. I strongly recommend not booking anything through them. This hotel was not the cheapest, but it was easily the worst value of all the places we stayed across Honolulu, Maui, and Big Island. I expect much better from Marriott and will think twice before booking with them again.
