No sea just stinky seaweed by the tons literally

In the TUI brochure there is a sentence saying "ust so you know, the beaches on this stretch of coastline sometimes experience increased levels of seaweed called sargassum. It's influenced by the weather and ocean currents. If your hotel's affected, the staff will do everything they can to clear it. See the picture as to what it really means no mention prior to late booking or departure absolutely stinks like cotton egg makes you gag rep says you can move but have to pay i feel i have been mis-sold

We booked this as a last minute trip, I wish we hadn’t.

Not a good experience. We booked this trip last minute and I wish we hadn’t. As stated in other comments the rooms were in a terrible condition, paint coming off the doors, the toilet flush was intermittent, and the bath although it was ‘clean’ should have been replaced many years ago. The food in the all 3 of the specialist restaurants was ordinary at best and extremely limited choices on the menus. The main buffet ‘Mercado’ was like being in a circus, staff rushed off their feet to the extent that it was hit and miss as to whether you even got a drink even though they were trying so hard. ( Shout out to Romeo in the restaurant for being a wonderful waiter in adverse circumstances) There were a wide range of food options available however the muck they called butter was an absolutely disgusting margarine type of product and many guests including ourselves were extremely disappointed .

    Go somewhere else

Family of five; two rooms. Made it very clear with the bookkng agent that we wanted a resort of at least four star rating. When we were escorted to our rooms by the hotel portrr it became very obvious that we were not getting 4 star quality. There was visible damage and missing paint on the exterior the room doors. Gaps between the doors and door boxes. As soon as our room doors were opened we were welcomed by an unpleasant odour, and not the seaweed smell that pervades some areas of the resort. The bathtubs were filthy; chipped paint and hairs! The sinks and counter tops were cracked and missing chunks of countertop. Floor tiles were cracked. The doors did not seal properly; light visible between the door and doorbox. Rust and mold were visible behind the door. One electrical outlet in the room. Food at buffet and some restaurant's is just ok. BLoved is good. The Japanese Hibachi is elusive; staff advised that bookings can only be made starting at 8:00am each day. Drinking glasses are not properly washed and dried, just rinsed between patrons. Drinks are very weak.

    Lovely compact resort

We were there April 7-14th 2025 Just the basics - No upgrades at all GROUNDS - very well maintained. We loved the lush and rustic feel of this place. Sweet little creatures who live on resort are no bother and seem to be very gentle and cautious. ROOMS - We had a lovely balcony (building 4) that was pool, garden, and ocean view since the property is on smaller side. Wonderful for us. It was exactly as depicted on their website: very spacious and very clean. Temp control was great. No issues here at all. Balconies may be too close for comfort for some. BEACH - We go to Cuba for the beaches, not here. Although, it seemed to always be cleared of that seaweed by the afternoon. Beach is too steep for most with mobility issues. POOLS - pretty good, on the smaller side, so you need to get up early to get chairs. We liked the stairs with railings in all pools for accessibility concerns. Pools have ladders as well. SPA - had couples massage - lots of stairs to access. Massage was relaxing and water therapies were lovely. FOOD - lots of fresh food, the food was our favourite things about this resort. Lots of choices and endless supply of guacamole!! DRINKS - basic drinks were very tasty but not strong enough for our tastes. CUSTOMER SERVICE - very good, Esther, at the front desk was especially helpful and went above and beyond for us. All staff we encountered were friendly and many offered help with my husband’s wheelchair. ACCESSIBILITY- 6/10 not completely flat and they have elevators for wheelchair users (or anyone really). Try to book in the 1000’s block (buildings 4/5/6) as there is manageable incline close to everything that comes out between buildings 5&6. FYI - there are 4 beach loungers (also close to pool) on each side of property that are reserved for guests with accessibility issues and are marked as such. We have found that they sometimes get pushed back and other people’s chairs crowd them making them literally inaccessible. We loved it here but would try another Catalonia next trip. P.S. the sports bartender was excellent with remembering drinks and providing superior service

Fantastic vacation at the Catalonia Yucatan Beach

We much enjoyed our vacation at the Catalonia Yucatan Beach in April. We liked the small size of the hotel and found it had some of the best service we've experienced. We have travelled extensively and the staff at this hotel is exceptional. We loved the buffet staff and found them to be very attentive. A big shout out to Guadeloupe, Francisco and the hostess Yasmin (not sure if I got name correct). We found the food was really good at the buffet -- always a lot of variety. If you like to eat fresh fruit and vegetables you will not be disappointed. It was really windy while we were there so it was not possible to snorkel. In fact, it was so windy that all the excursions were cancelled by the Coast Guard. We did go on an amazing excursion inland which included snorkelling in a fresh-water cenote, snorkelling in a cave and finally snorkelling in ocean lagoon. I almost forgot to commend the resort on its environmental policies. The hotel gardens are very beautiful and you will see tropical wildlife including agouti and many iguanas!
