Average resort experience
Long review, so I'll give it in Bullitt format. -Delayed 2 hours at airport -Over an hour to get luggage. Cancun airport is a zoo -Another 2 hours before bus left airport -1.75 hour drive to hotel -Check in was smooth -We had a beach view room, there is a privilege level avail, not sure what it comes with -Underwhelming room everything clean and works fine, just dated and decor is nothing special -Amenities: shampoo, body wash, iron, blow dryer, fridge, tv, no coffee maker -Outlets: 2 in bathroom, 1 by bedside hot water in morning only, hit and miss after that -Patio door won't lock, but on 3d floor so no worries -Buffett food ok, nothing special. Grill very slow. Good selection -Only two smoking areas. Near beach bar and front lobby. We smoked on our balconey -Lots of stairs, not for mobility challenged -Typical pool chair issues -Small beach, water is very rocky, water shoes a necessity -Wi-Fi very good, no issues -Staff was excellent, no issues at all -Excursions very expensive & were booked at sister resort -Lots of shopping at Marina but serious tourist trap. There are street market venders across the road from marina, but only We'd & Sat -Free shopping excursion was a mixed bag. Went to a jewelry store a tequila store where they were extremely pushy. Then to Playa del Carmen where there were lots of reasonable souvenir shops. Tip: use credit card -Most places accept Mxn or US $. If we return we will bring Mxn. It's just easier. -Extreme Adventure Excursion: zipline crew were very professional although towers seemed a little sketchy. Atv ride was on extremely rocky trail, so not much fun. Skipped the cenote swim as cave was full of bats. Didn't want to swim in bat guano. Cost $300 so not sure the value was there -Mexican and Italian ala cartes were excellent. Burger joint was closed - some of the negative reviews seem unwarranted and petty - Overall it's a nice place, not the best but still ok. This is just MY opinion. Yours may differ

Disappointed in a big way!
The Catalonia Yucatan Beach - All Inclusive is definitely NOT a 4star hotel. The rooms are absolutely outdated and noisy. You can hear everything in the rooms adjacent. The hotel rooms are in poor repair. I would rate as Two stars best. The facility is shared with Catalonia Rivera Maya. The pool is nice. There is really no beach to speak of. Instead, there is an ocean inlet that has nice snorkeling. They offer 3 restaurants but only give you two reservations for a week stay. They use an app to make reservations and limit access to only two. They are pretty strict about the reservations. I was really unhappy with the limited availability for the restaurants. The buffet was good, but definitely not what I expected from Catalonia. I would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone!!!! Catalonia should be embarrassed to put their brand on this hotel.

Don’t waste your money there!!
No place to enjoy the ocean. All coral. Not much to do there. No entertainment during the day unless you go to the other resort next door. I’ve traveled lots and this was my least favourite. I won’t recommend this place at all. Almost 2 hours from the airport. The staff was good. The rooms are clean but need updating.

Diesel Smoke and Fumes!!!!!!
AVOID!! There is a new building going up right next to the Privledged pool and beach. Both areas are inundated with diesel fumes and EXTREMELY Loud Pile driving and heavy equipment. Both areas are all but unusable. I realize this is out of the control of the resort....but regardless this is what toy will experience. This development has just begun, so there is still Months of construction noise to come. If you want a relaxing g beach vacation DO NOT COME HERE!!

We had a great time
Very friendly staff. We had a quick check in and Roger brought our luggage to our room. He spent the week helping my daughter improve her spanish which was so kind. The whole resort was full of great people. The food was decent, the restaurants were hard to book but we got into one. The bars were awesome. Lots to do from dance lessons, snorkelling, mini golf and sports bar. Karaoke was really fun. Our room was dated but clean and the air conditioning was quiet and worked great. We were on the 4th floor and never heard hallway noise. Overall a very awesome week.
