Grounds are nice - Service not so much

I visited this resort with my adult son for a quick guys trip. The location was close to the hotel and the property overall was nice and clean. Room: We stayed in a Junior Suite Privileged area (3rd floor) and the room was recently updated with a nice large shower/bathroom and comfy beds. Just a couple of tips, bring a bar of soap and a washcloth as they do not supply those. They have a liquid body soap that you dispense in your hands that was very watered down and almost seemed like a dish detergent, but no smaller washcloths to apply or smaller bars of soap as you would typically find in a hotel room. Reservations for Restaurants: We went to make our reservation the day after our arrival and were told that they didn't have any reservations for 2 of restaurants we wanted to go to - Steakhouse & Japanese. We were told they were very popular and didn't have any availability. After pressing, the steakhouse became available on the night before we left. We were also told that since we were there for 4 nights, we were only allowed to make 2 reservations at the "restaurants" and then eat at the buffet the other days. We ate at the Italian restaurant and it was pretty good. The Steakhouse, not so much. We went to the Japanese restaurant without a reservation any way and they were able to find a place for us. This restaurant was really good. What we didn't quite understand was, each restaurant was maybe half filled.... Casino: Don't waste your time here. It's a joke of a casino with really weird, broken, old slot machines with faded screens, 1 blackjack table, 1 three card Caribbean poker table and 2 Roulette tables (though they only use 1 wheel). The roulette wheel itself was pretty sketchy to say the least. Things just looked a little off. As far as the people working in the casino, no one was friendly at all. They were more happy when you lost a hand they they were if you won one. Golf: I wasn't expecting much to begin with here but we gave it a shot. Green fees are free!! Yes!!.... but for 2 of us to play 9 holes with a cart and share a bag with 1985 blades was $102.00. That is pretty steep especially since there is one hole that's 70 yards... Tip: Bring a bag of balls and tees with you and try to negotiate a price. Entertainment: Never went to the shows as this isn't something we enjoy. Sports Bar: Hardly anyone there in the couple of times we went in and at 10pm it turns into a really loud dance club type place... Time Share Breakfast: The first morning we were there, the phone rang at 8:15. "Andy" wanted to take us to breakfast at the prestige Pure restaurant next door. I told him were were not interested in a time share presentations and he said it wasn't a timeshare and that it was something "different". We met quickly with his representative and he said it was a 90 minute presentation and I said absolutely not. Don't get suckered into this unless you want to spend and hour and a half hearing about a non-timeshare, timeshare lol. This is my fifth time to Punta Cana and I feel like the service keeps getting worse each time we go. Lots of workers walking around, but no one really working. Once you ask for something, they make you feel like you are inconveniencing them. Summary: Grounds and rooms are nice. Food was Ok. Service not so much. Weather was great and the beach was awesome. My suggestion, go to Turk and Caicos instead.

Most disappointing hloiday in a outdated resort

The first room has bug in the bathroom, airconditioning was noisy , phone & TV were not working , plug in the washroom for hairdryer was not working The 2nd room , after a few days we were badly bitten by flees , we tipped the cleaning lady only to find half alive cochroach on the florr behind the chair . We continue to have flee bites. This is the most outdated resort I have ever stayed. The only pleasant personnls are in the coffee shop. We paid so much to expect a relaxing holiday and we ended up anxious to leave as the flee bites are irritable Stop renting our your rooms . disinfect your facility

    Horrible experience

Catalonia Bavaro Beach Resort – Punta Cana I stayed at Catalonia Beach Resort Punta Cana from December 30 through January 3, 20026 expecting a relaxing New year’s all-inclusive vacation. Unfortunately, this was one of the most disappointing resorts experiences I have ever had. From the very beginning, everything went wrong: • First room: the toilet did not work properly, the air conditioning barely cooled, the phone was completely not functional, and the room was in poor condition overall. We were forced to change rooms. • We had to drag our luggage back to the lobby as the phone was not working. • Second room: the phone also did not work, the iron was broken, and despite requesting a replacement, it was never delivered. The safe was locked. • One evening, we returned to our room around 5:00 p.m. and it had not been cleaned. Since the phone did not work, we had to walk back to the lobby to request housekeeping. We then sat on the balcony in the rain waiting for the room to be serviced. The New Year’s Eve buffet experience was especially upsetting; I took a lobster and began removing the tail when the server became visibly upset and told me I had to do it at the table. When I proceeded, the server angrily took the rest of the lobster and threw it in the trash. This was humiliating and completely unacceptable behavior. On Friday, we tried to leave the resort and call an Uber. The Uber driver was not allowed to enter the property and told us to meet him at the security gate, which is a very long walk. I asked the concierge if they could take us to the gate by gold cart and was told no, unless we were checking out with luggage. I went to the front desk to speak with manager and was made to wait over 20 minutes. Only after I became visibly upset did they finally agree to help – but by then, the Uber was cancelled and I was charged. At that point, we no longer even wanted to go out. Throughout the stay, I visited the front desk countless times due to ongoing issues. The staff continue just to say they will report the issues (which never happened). Not once did management reach out to check on us, offer a solution, or provide any form of compensation. Staff overall appeared uninterested, unfriendly and indifferent to guest concerns. I also witnessed many other guests complaining during our stay. This trip was carefully planned and meant to be a special New Year’s gateway. Instead, it turned out to be a stressful, frustrating and heartbreaking experience. This resort is poorly managed and not delivering what it advertises as an “all-inclusive” experience. Something seriously needs to be one. Based on our experience, I would strongly advise travelers to avoid this resort until major improvements are made in management, service and guest care. Thank you Valerie Regits

    Decreasing quality hotel with services

Poor customer service, if you want it please have a good wallet to provide the dollar. Rooms () are a little bit old even if you pay extra as a exclusive. Buffet restaurants. The big one is okay because there are more options that the buffet beach. (The daily food menu is always the same). Location is okay if you ate looking for something close to de airport other that you have to rent a car to close distance of 9 km (small-town). Value poor there are more very good options. Cleaners is not good. People are working for mopping and make the beds that it. Building 9 is very noisy and please expect to listen music for the other amenity. There are 18 buildings and the 9 is the middle one, that's mean you have to walk to the principal buffet, teather, reception, etc or the other way to the pool, beach, buffet, kids club (after 4 yrs).

    Save yourself

A huge disappointment. The food was poor and if you have any allergies they simply do not understand and are unable to accommodate. Staff definitely need customer service training and while there are a couple of exceptions, there are some rude and unpleasant staff. There is noisy building work which starts before 9:00 am and is seven days a week. Save yourself and find a better hotel.
