Bluebay resort an average family resort....you get what you pay for
The Bluebay is a very large expansive resort, they have a network of golf carts running to transport you around. The grounds and the pools are very well kept. The usual shortage of chairs by the pools and the beach could be frustrating at times. The rooms themselves could use some updating even some paint would help. I found their wi-fi was very erratic and would drop quite frequently. The buffet restaurants served the usual fare to appeal to a wide audience. The specialty restaurants were a nice change from the buffet. The staff for the most part was pleasant and most knew enough English to get by. it is about a 35 min taxi ride from Cancun airport. I would rate this resort a 3.5 tops.

Quite Disappointed
Our trip was from February 1st to February 11, 2026. This Resort has absolutely beautiful grounds, well kept and clean and very lush. It is divided into basically 2 sections with 3 buildings near the adult pool and closest to the lobby and buffet restaurant and the other buildings close to the beach and the fish and steak house. The staff are wonderful, always polite and never without a smile on their faces. But, and it's a big but! The resort is very old and needs repair. The rooms are clean but very dated and there is a smell of sewer water in the room most of the time. We were in Building 7 but were told by others that Building 8 and 6 were the same. We did complain to the staff at the desk, but were told that it is because of the many pools of stagnant water around the property. They offered to change our room at a higher rate but we had heard that other rooms were the same. The lobby had nothing there except some seating with very old cushions. The food at the buffet restaurant was very basic and there were long lines to get in both at breakfast and dinner, but we did really enjoy the seafood and stead house. The shows were OK but the stage was at the side of the "Black and White Bar" and not very professional. The beach is nice, but much narrower than shown on the pictures. The whole time we were there, we were not able to get a beach chair! My husband went down at 6am and they were always already reserved. There were not nearly enough chairs for the guests. Meanwhile in the sectioned off area for VIP there were many lounge chairs, 70% of which were never used! I would say that this Resort is at best a 3.5 rating. Honestly, I do not imagine we would ever go back there.

Blue Bay is still a good choice.
We we went to Blue Bay in 2014 and had a wonderful time. Above on to 2026 and although it’s showing its age in spots, it’s still a nice resort. Check in and out was a breeze. The only annoying part was the timeshare salesperson when we checked in. For-the most part the buffets were good although repetitive. The ala cartes were great with the steakhouse being the best. Make sure you lock your patio doors properly as our friends had a coatis slide the door open , eat all their snacks and poop on the bed. The little thief scattered when our friends returned to the room. They need to work on the house cleaning staff as sometimes they leave dirty sheets in the room and often forget to fill the coffee maker supplies. Yes it’s tired but very well kept by some great people. Good value for the money.

Very Disappointing Stay
Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. Every other day our towels were removed from the beach loungers and we were then asked to pay $30 to receive new ones, which felt completely unreasonable. The towels were clearly taken by the lifeguards without asking for permission. It is also extremely difficult to find available loungers on the beach, as there are very few and they are already occupied early in the morning. Taxis arranged through the hotel cost almost three times more than normal, making them not worth using. The food lacks variety, and there is very little fruit available. At best, we found only a few pieces of pineapple and melon. The pizza was not good. The coffee situation was particularly poor: the machine was unusable, and the waiters served watery coffee with cold milk, expecting a tip. There was no decaffeinated coffee. The rooms are dated but still comfortable. At this time of year, the sea is full of seaweed, although this varies depending on the day. The beach itself is beautiful, but unfortunately there is plastic scattered around in some areas.
