Great experience
My family and I returned a week ago from our vacation in Playa del Carmen and we stayed at the Blue bay grand esmeralda. I am not going to lie I was very nervous because all the reviews, but I was glad I did not pat attention and went anyway. Since the moment we arrived the service was great, starting with the check in was fast and with no issues. We stayed in the building #6 with a room looking at the quiet pool and it was very good. The AC worked great all the time, housekeeping make sure our room was always clean. We even had an issue with the security safe and I called and 10 mins later someone came to fix it. The food was good in all the restaurants. We ate in the main buffet most nights and they had different theme nights every night. We also ate at the Italian, Mexican and the beach buffet. The food was always very good. The cafe was also very good. Yes it is a Hotel where you need to walk but honestly the walks are no longer than 10 mins. We did not have any issues with that. Most important what I noticed at the hotel is how everyone works so hard for you to have a good time. Every worker from reception, concierge, waiters, hosts, housekeeping, bartenders and the entertaining team goes above and beyond for you to feel comfortable and have a great time, and we really appreciated that. Fernando and the Festival buffet was amazing. In conclusion if you want to have a good time I will recommend this resort.

Hotel not recommended.
This is my second time at this hotel. My return wasn't due to the quality of my stay, but rather because other hotels were limited. My initial preference was the Ocean Maya. This hotel is a combination of 5-star quality concepts but with the realities of a short-stay motel. When you see the photos, you think you're in a hotel, but when you arrive, you realize it's not what you see. The reality contradicts the optical illusion of the website images. From the moment you arrive, the lobby is very poor in basic features like paint. The decor and amenities are also poor. Old furniture, broken floor tiles, a water fountain that looks like one in a neglected public park (a tube with a stream of water), a total lack of hotel taste. If you look at the lobby ceiling, you'll see holes in the straw of the ranch it represents, broken cement, peeling paint... it's the first impression, and it's very valid and descriptive of what's to come. Upon arrival, you're offered a welcome drink. The person is holding a glass. It could be on a tray... something you'd notice is a 5-star hotel. It looks like a food distribution in a workers' cafeteria. I then checked in and was assigned a room that was ready at 3 p.m. (the hotel was almost empty). When I got to the room, the drama began (see photos). Stains on the walls and ceiling from damp or leaks, a bathroom with hair, a rusty shower, and air conditioning that only worked with the fan and the ceiling fan. I immediately declined the room and went to request an interview with the manager. He immediately welcomed me into his office. A polite and professional gentleman who understood what I was saying, not only because of his listening skills but also because of the embarrassed expression on his face. He didn't try to play HR office or customer service representative. He knew what I was talking about and offered me apologies and three rooms (that's all, I mean, he should have offered a discount, a bonus for returning, and guaranteed my return again... something that makes me feel like the hotel knows how to treat its customers) so I could choose the most convenient one. They weren't different, but they DID look better. Cleaner. I chose room 5111 (see photos of the new one). In conclusion, I DO NOT recommend this place. The comfort is very basic. It's like paying for an ostrich leg and having a chicken leg placed on your plate. It's frustrating and uncomfortable. When you go on vacation, you want to relax. You don't want inconveniences, 90-minute classes based on promises that don't match the reality you live, people shoving you on the backs of packages... whatever. I found two diferent young marriage couple from Spain. Some told me they felt scammed. We shared experiences. Then I found another one who was staying at the Ocean Maya and told me that everything about the hotel, such as the room and cleanliness, was perfect. The food was so-so... overall, everything was quite good. I asked (I was indiscreet) the price, and they told me, and I noticed that the difference was $100 more than what I paid at Blue Bay. For those who read the reviews I recommend that look for and believe the negative reviews. The best ones about the hotel experience are a makeup of reality. Don't believe the photos. And I recommend that you don't believe the hotel's response to the comments. It was my second time and my second review. They mechanically asked me to give them another chance, and I gave it, and it was worse than the first. The problem is clear: the administrative structureof the hotel. They dont invert and all need a deep tuch. They don't invest, and the hotel is old, dirty, and looks like a motel. It's the same dynamic as the ones in the Dominican Republic. They sell you the great concept, which I don't know about the ones on the Costa del Sol in Spain, but the ones in the Dominican Republic and this one in Mexico, which I do know, leave a lot to be said.
